Do you have a favorite waistpack or backpack you use? Looking for ideas, brand names etc. Am starting to purchase things I need for our first trip to WDW. Thanks

Well waist or "fanny packs" are not really socially acceptable in the US, so I only know about backpacks.

I have two brands for school a JanSport and a Timberland. Both are really expensive and I have no idea where you can even buy Timberland bags anyways. But the Tims have really really comfortable straps.

But push come to shove I would get a JanSport. They can come in any size (purse like backpack to big huge things like I got for school). Mine has like 8 pockets so I have a place for everything including my camera bag. Though I must admit I didn't really like carrying a backpack around.

I also suppose its would depend on what you wanna carry. One year I just used my Samsonite Camera bag (over the shoulder and it's like 6" by 3" by 4" or something).

I have 2 boys 3 and 5 so I was carrying this in the park but ebags.com has lots of good bags in assorted sizes.

I have the one shoulder "back friendly" back pack from LL Bean. It is lightweight, with many pockets. I use it as my purse at WDW (and on the plane for my smaller carryon item). Our kids are older, now, so it is ideal since we no longer have to pack extra clothes, or diaper supplies.

I bought it last year, and it was around $80. Well worth it.

You're kidding me, right? Thats all I see all over Disneyworld. Anyway, I bought the best one right at DW, about 5 years ago. And I know they still sell it. Its black, with about 2-3 zippered pockets. Perfect for digital camera, passes, money, sunglasses. So if you're looking for a great fanny pack and great souvenir, wait till you get there and look at the resort shops or parks. They're everywhere. Have a blast on your first trip, magical!

I do not like wearing a backpack. Too cumbersome for me, and too much of a pain to take on and off all the time. I started out using a HUGE waist pouch, figuring I would need to carry the kitchen sink into the parks. After the first use, I downsized. Everyone in our family has their own. I actually have two that I always bring. One is black with one main pocket section, an inside zipper pocket (where I keep the passes) and two side pockets for cell phone and digital camera. The other is is an off white with similar features. Finding a light neutral color waist pouch sure was a challenge, but I wear each one according the color of the outfit I wear each day.

Didn't know about that :earseek: ....I have always worn a waist pack and see plenty of them all around me at the world. I bought a new one for our trip last June from Eddie Bauer...nice and large. Room for a water bottle (or camera) and cell phone on the outside of the belt, several zippered compartments....very nice.

My last two trips I have used a backpack called a Camelback. It has a bladder in it and a hose on the shoulder so you can sip water whenever you want. We all have one so we never have to stop for water until lunch. Ours has a wide mouth so you can load it up with ice before you put in water. We all have one. They even come in fanny packs. Some are small so you don't get much in them but mine is large enough for some snacks and camera and other things.

Yes I agree, I see fanny packs on many many people and I don't think they look ridiculous at all, much better than seeing people who look like human pack mules, and besides I am not there to present a fashion statement I am there to enjoy myself!
That being said, I think I must have the fanny pack that you are describing and I LOVE it, in fact I even bought a second one in case they quit making this one. It is about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide, it has 2 compartments, the first one having another zippered compartment for cash, a slot for cash, and slots for credit cards and room keys. The next compartment has plenty of room for a camera, brush and some other incidentals.
The type of bag you want is purely by preference and just how much stuff you want to tote, but by no means feel that you will look stupid with a fanny pack, if that were the case then there are alot of "illegal, stupid looking people at the parks" and I know that is not the case!

Thanks for all of the ideas. I am not a teenager who has to worry about looking "cool". I have a 5 yr old and am looking for something functional for all of the things we need to bring, money, tickets, etc. and also for snacks and a water bottle without being weighted down. I will check out the bags (yes, including the waistpacks) you all suggested.

My favorite is anythng that i can drag behind me with huge wheels on it. Just kidding people. By the way, see my countdown??? oh yeah...

I just got a fanny pack at Target just for WDW. They may not be the coolest but the sure are easy to carry all day. The Target one is a brand called "outdoor products" it has two water bottles (DD and Me as DH only goes to WDW once a year) Two compartments plus an outside zipped area. I plan on using it in FEb and June. Best part is that it was only $7.99. Check in the camping gear around where they have the camelback/water bladder packs. It may not be cool but it will cover all our needs.

Everyone, repeat after me..."Friends don't let friends wear fanny packs!!" I'll bet you can still by acid wash jeans too, but just because you can buy them, doesn't make it right! :D

I picked my backpack up at a sporting goods store, and it is the greatest invention. It is a backpack with a camping stool attatched. Whenever I am in slow lines and tired or watching a parade, I sit on my seat. Believe me when I say, I am the envy of everyone that sees it. I think I paid about $20 for it. I also wear a belly bag (fanny pack) like I would a purse, except I can't put it down and forget about it.

I proudly wear my guatemalen woven fannypack to the Parks. I don't care if people think it's "cool" or not - it's practical & I like it & that's all that matters to me. Leaves my hands free to do what I please, keeps my goods handy without me having to sit on a lumpy wallet - I can even stuff my water bottle in there if need be. Can't think of a better way to keep my touring stuff handy......

Pampam,

That's great. Where did you get it and what is it called?

i prefer backpacks becos i take so much stuff to the park that it can't fit comfortably in a waist pack (sunscreen, umbrella, water bottle, snacks...i like to be prepared!) also its good to have extra room to carry souveniers around. whatever you get, try to find something water-resistant for those wetter rides like splash mountain or if you get caught in a downpour!

I like my back friendly, one shoulder bag. It's an Ameribag and you can do a google search. Comes in many sizes and materials. All of my teacher friends use them for handbags too. One of the security people doing bag checks, told me this type of bag was his favorite to check because it opens wide and is easy to see everything in it.
