We are heading down in August, and have some tickets Disney comped us several years ago (they are park hoppers with deluxe water parks, etc.). I called Disney to see if needed park reservations about a month ago and we were told we do not--so we didn't make any. I'm seeing reports on Facebook that you can't get into MK now unless you have a reservation (or park hop there) due to capacity issues with the new parade. I'm curious if anyone knows if this is accurate? The thread some people say this isn't true, while a few others confirm.

Ugghh...Part of the reason we haven't been to Disney in years is all the confusion of this kind of stuff. I really miss pre-covid Disney:-).

I believe those comp tickets require park reservations.

Have you tried to make a park reservation using the tickets on your account? I would suggest doing that to see if your particular type of ticket requires a park reservation.

If you require a park reservation (which I agree with @erionm, you probably do), you will be allowed to make a park reservation. If your ticket does not need a park reservation, you will not be allowed to make one.

This is what we expected too, and why we called. I didn't realize we still had to do this, ugh, it really does limit one's flexibility. We will give it a try and see. The website was about as clear as mud on the reservations.

Park reservations are not filling to capacity the vast majority of days so should offer you some flexibility should you change your mind about which park you want to go to.

There are two different topics discussions that fall into this area.

The new one concerning MK is that to go to MK on or after July 20th for some time due to the new Starlight Nighttime Parade. AP Ticket holders need a Park pass for one of the 4 parks for you to be able to visit MK on that day. You don't not specifically need a MK Park pass to hop to MK.

Before this recent restriction, AP Ticket holders were able to enter MK after 2 PM without a park reservation except for Saturday & Sunday.

The basic Park reservation constraint is that all tickets that are not the new Date Based tickets that WDW began selling last year as of January 9, 2024. These non date based tickets all require a park reservation or for Disney to have listed that Park / Day as a Good to Go day.

There are very few exceptions so as @scrappinginontario try to make a park reservation, if it works then your ticket type requires park reservations. If the system will not allow you to make a park reservation then your tickets don't require Park reservation.
