But the building [Tower of Terror] not only needed to blend with its immediate surroundings, it also needed to blend in with World Showcase in Epcot. You see, when crossing the bridge that leads from the Disney Traders Shop to Mexico, the hotel is clearly visible behind the Morocco pavilion. So the Tower was given a slightly Moorish feel and painted a color that was not completely accurate for its era just so it would blend into the background when viewed from Epcot.
The only place you can (or at least supposed to be able to) see the Contemporary Resort from inside the MK is from Tomorrowland. It is supposed to look like a building/city that would only exist in Tomorrowland in a neighboring area.
This is similar to the Morocco pavilion/ Tower of Terror in WS in Epcot. The back of Tower of Terror has a distinctly different look then the front to match the Morocco pavilion rather then Hollywood in the 1930's.
Here is some more info I got directly from Jack Spence's blog:
There's also a pics of this but since I'm new I can't post it![]()

vein, the Asian Water Buffaloes on top of the Enchanted Tiki Room are stylized so they look similar to a Texas Longhorn. That keeps the congruity of the view from Frontierland.
I love this thread!
To read more about this subject look into the "The Imagineering Field Guide to XX at Walt Disney World"
XX = Magic Kingdom
XX = Epcot
XX = Disney's Animal Kingdom
XX = Disney's Hollywood Studios
Most of what I have read here is included in these 4 books!
Thanks for the tip!!! I honestly didnt know these existed!!

My son thinks it is strange that the Little Mermaid - under the sea ride has no water, and it is at the site of the once iconic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea which did have water.
Except, The Little Mermaid isn't at the location of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. Its to the north (or NNW) by about 100 feet. None of the ride is located where there was once water.
Your post made me cry....my dad is gone 6 years now. My parents took us too in the mid-70s, we returned for my DD1s first birthday. Unfortunately, we never got back with him again. We will now be returning for that same daughters 15th birthday. I will cry like a baby many times I'm sure. Take him on the underground tour and the train tour. And take many pictures together.
I took the KttK tour too and didnt hear that one. But that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! When we were in the utilidors our tour guide stopped at the photograph of opening day at MK. Roy was scheduled to make a speech to welcome everyone. He was very sad that his brother wasn't there to see his dream come to life. He was sitting on a bench and all the big wigs were telling him it was time to go. He said he needed a minute. A CM came and sat next to him and talked quietly with him. When the CM left they asked Roy if he was ready and he said he needed a few more minutes.
The CM came back with Mickey in tow. Mickey sat next to Roy and put his arm around him. Roy looked at Mickey and took his hand and said now he was ready. And Mickey stood next to him during the speech. He wasn't supposed to be there but since that day Mickey is at every opening at WDW. For Roy, Mickey and Walt were one in the same. So having Mickey beside him was like having Walt there too.
I was a sobbing mess when she told that story!
