Your best Disney fact or insider story...

This is from AllEars. Norway Pavilion.

There are four distinct Norwegian architecture themes in the pavilion.

  • Setesdal style, with grassy roofs and thick logs - Kringla Bakeri og Kafe.
  • Bergen style, captured here in the Fjording Shop, is marked by gabled windows on close-set wooden buildings.
  • Oslo style is marked by the surrounding walls of the Akershus Castle.
  • Alesund style is typified by the white stucco and stone-trimmed information building where you find the entrance to the Maelstrom.

I am going to WDW with my father again in June. This will be almost exactly 40 years after he took me as a child in 1973. Even though we have both been back many times on our own, this will be the first time we are returning together. He is kind of a Walt Disney Historian (amateur of course :)).

I need some new material to dazzle him on this trip. What are those tidbits of knowledge that you save for the hardest to impress? What are your favorite things to show people? It can be about Walt or anything at WDW. I need your help.

Also, I need Fantasia references at WDW.
DHS:
* Fantasmic!
* big hat
* topiary of brooms by brown derby
* sorcerer Mickey meet and greet
* statue on top of animation building.
* section in great movie red and hippos dancing on final montage.
Epcot:
*universe of energy - dinosaur fight diorama.
Magic kingdom:
* mickeys philarmagic
* chernabog in parade
Other locations:
* fantasia gardens - mini golf
* DTD topiaries
* contemporary lobby
* ASm pool

Do you ever watch YT micechat? They do a weekly Disney trivia/history/books kinda thing. It is pretty interesting most of the time & I enjoy watching :)

The Golden Carousel & scenes made of tile when u walk through the castle are made of actual 14k gold ;) I learned that when I worked in Fantasyland :)

Not sure if Someone mentioned this or not....but Cinderella's Golden Carousel actually changed names in June of 2010 to Prince Charming Regal Carousel.

Cinderella's Horse is in the second row and has a golden bow in the tail

The Carousel was built by the Philadelphia Tobogan Company in 1917 and was purchased by Walt Disney in 1967 from Olympic Park in maplewood New Jersey(YAY NJ)

The original Name of the carousel was Liberty

Again, unsure if this was mentioned yet (heck, I may have mentioned it since it's one of my favorite facts) Look at the face of the grave digger in the HM and then the man on the bottom of the tree where they're climbing to escape the rhino on the Jungle Cruise. Do they look a bit similar or dare I say identical? Same sculptor.

This is just one example of many animatronic clones.

Another interesting fact about Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. In the rest of the world carousel is spelt with one r, except at WDW where they felt the need to add a 2nd one

That is awesome. I will definitely use this.

I am with Aurorameansdawn - do you know of anymore clones?
At the risk of sounding like a Pink Lady, Tell me more! Tell me more!

I have done my due diligence searching the web, I can not figure out what the pink lady refers to. I am really curious now. :)

I've heard of other examples, but didn't care enough to remember them for later. I just know the clones are all around us at WDW. ;)

Bottom line is there are only so many unique animatronic figures--they are made to look more diverse through costuming, hair, and anything else the Imagineers can think up.

I never even look at the Carrousel, now I will turn my attention to it. When I really looked at its a small world last summer, I developed a new appreciation for the classic ride.

Maybe it is based on the French spelling.

This is a great topic. Maybe others can point out another match somewhere. Thanks for the "lead".

I do recall another example in SSE, but I don't recall which or where the twin(s) were.

The Pink Ladies are the "girl gang" in the musical Grease, and "Tell me more" is a lyrics from one of the songs they sing :goodvibes

"Tell me more, tell me more, like does he have a car?"
"Tell me more, tell me more, did ya get very far?"

From Grease! :music:

It is in reference to the Pink Ladies in the movie Grease when they sing the song "Summer Nights" .................

"Tell me more, tell me more, but you don't have to brag, Tell me more, tell me more, cuz he sounds like a drag oh....Doo wop wop, Doo wop wop......etc"

I am totally busted on such a huge pop culture thing. :blush: Even though this is probably my wife's favorite movie...I have never watched it. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. Now that you have explained, I am familiar with the song.

Now that I have been quoted twice, there is no way to get rid of this embarrassing statement! :rotfl:
