I loved Paul's reaction to MJ singing that song he sang to her as a child. I forget what a wonderful actor he is and really believe he should have a front burner story. I hope she sticks around for a while, she's so deliciously nuts.

The chemo infusion center with Lily was so dead on. Someone has been doing their homework. The way she had to wait for her meds was so real; they don't bring up the meds from the pharmacy until the patient is there and sometimes it takes a while. The look on her face when the nurse began the drip was also so real; I wondered if it would feel like fire running through my veins. It looked so much like my infusion center except we all had our own televisions and DVD centers. Even the older man introducing himself brought back memories. I met wonderful supportive people who really helped me and some of them aren't with us anymore. I cried but I'm really proud that Y&R did it so well.

Didn't Victor "feel" the baby move a couple of weeks ago? The best scenario? Ashley was carrying twins and is still carrying a baby. The ultrasound was faked after her miscarriage, so that's more plausible than the current storyline. IMO

(I have no idea how ":hippie:" appeared in my last post) LOL:hippie:

Ohhh, that would be an incredible twist. I am dreading the idea of a baby switch or anything else along those lines.

What I can't understand is if she is no longer carrying a baby why the baby bump? Why is she feeling the baby move...why, why, why...I'm ready to get this story behind us.

Shdnt carrying a dead baby be toxic to some extent? ...and shouldnt Ashley be seeing an MD regularly now for updated sonograms? ...why do they only trust Adam's doctor? Why would Victor allow Ashley to only see a doctor that Adam has any (ANY!!) ties to?

These writers are slipping! There shd be at least one other doctor in the picture....even if it's not Olivia!

Ohhhhh....the longer this goes on, the more it hurts:headache: !!!

Ashley miscarried the dead baby. She had a faked sonogram after she lost her child. That's why I think they should let her be pregnant with a twin. They didn't do a real ultrasound. That would explain why she's getting bigger and has felt movement. But, I doubt TPTB will be that creative. They don't believe in happy endings.

I thought he did do a US after she fell? Or was is just an exam? He would have to do an US to determine for sure , not to mention to be sure the miscarriage was a full miscarriage and not a partial one.

as for Ashleys symptoms it is rare but happens. It is called Pseudocyesis. I have never seen it in my 22 years of working Labor and Delivery but did study it and am aware of it.

The twin concept it good.

Love that Amber has cut Deacon off until they are married. Also love that she said, "I'm a designer and I'm certainly not wearing 'off the rack!'"

I really can not stand the story line of anyone at this point. I ff through most of the show. Where the heck is Nikki? Is she lying dead in a ditch rotting away? It's been days!!!

I'm with you - some of these stories have dragged on for far too long. I would like to see Deacon, Ryder and Amber hit the road for good.

And poor Nikki - she gets hit by a car and then we don't see her again....weird.

nikki isn't coming back until sometime in sept.

they wrote her out while she was dealing with the contract - it as undetermined if she would live or be killed until the contract was settled.

not that she is coming back they have written her scripts but theywon't be shown util sept

Speaking of Scott Hamner and Soap Opera Weekly -- No Gay storyline no more?

***? Despite show runner Maria Arena Bell’s assertions in a recent TVGuide.ca interview that Y&R was planning on telling more than one gay storyline this summer and fall, co-head writer Scott Hamner refutes that claim to Soap Opera Weekly. Apparently, he says, “At this point, we are not doing a gay story, and we never actually were doing a gay story. I don’t see a future for Rafe and Adam.” Well, neither did we, Scotty! So what would you call Phillip Chancellor coming out of the closet? A PSA? Or a mistake? Y&R is really beginning to piss me off. Let’s review: It’s OK for an aunt and nephew to have sex, cheating on their respective family members; an adult woman to kiss a toddler on the lips after she ate a cookie the kid was allergic to, making the child brain-damaged in the process; and a woman oblivious to the fact that she miscarried her baby after her son-in-law accidentally scared her into a fall down a flight of stairs — but having two men kiss on-screen is too taboo for this soap? I preferred the days when head writer Maria Arena Bell handled the soap press herself.

It aggravates me to no end that people who get paid to write about soaps can't get relationships right! Step-son, not son in law!!!

I haven't watched today's show, but Daniel was finally making some sense yesterday. This can't be all about getting Amber back. So what is Deacon really after, and why is Kevin the key? Are we finally going to find out what is in Tom's safety deposit box?

I don't think he did a sonogram. I don't even think he checked her without her clothes on!

Which aunt and nephew?

Edited: Nevermind--Tyra/Devon..

I like this Colleen, I hate that she will be getting the ax.....Amber is just so cheap looking I don't care what she puts on.

colleen's getting the ax or the actress?

why is she leaving?

*rumor* is she is going to drown while Traci is in town visiting Ashley. I really hope this one is wrong-there have been enough deaths, especially in this family.

ohhhh come on - she drawns like her father??????

now that's reaching

I could swear Adam had that doctor come and warned him not to tell Ashley anything but after examinating her told Adam that the baby was dead. Then later, Ashley felt the baby kick and Adam freaked out and talked to the doctor and he explained to Adam that she's having the symptoms of pregnancy even though the baby died. I cannot remember the technical name for it.

I also remember Victor feeling her stomach.

But then even later, Ashley confided to Adam that she hadn't felt the baby move in awhile. :confused3

who knows but I really doubt there's going to be a twin twist.

if anyone's interested

History
Cases of pseudocyesis have been documented since antiquity. Hippocrates gives us the first written account around 300 B.C. when he recorded 12 cases of women with the disorder. Mary I (1516–1558), Queen of England, was perhaps the most famous of western historical examples, who believed on several occasions that she was pregnant, when she was in fact not. Some even attribute the violence that gave her the nickname "Bloody Mary" to be a reaction to her disappointment on realising she was without child. Other medical historians believe that the queen's physicians mistook fibroid tumors in her uterus for a pregnancy. John Mason Good coined the term pseudocyesis from the Greek words pseudes (false) and kyesis (pregnancy) in 1923.

More recently, pseudocyesis has received attention in popular culture. It has been featured in the television shows CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Law and Order SVU, The Simpsons, Shameless, General Hospital: Night Shift, Glee, Grey's Anatomy, The Young and the Restless, and Mental, in the films Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Oldboy, and on the Kaleidoscope album White Faced Lady.

Signs and symptoms
The symptoms of pseudocyesis are similar to the symptoms of true pregnancy and are often hard to distinguish from it. Such natural signs as amenorrhoea, morning sickness, tender breasts, and weight gain may all be present. Many health care professionals can be deceived by the symptoms associated with pseudocyesis. Research shows that 18% of women with pseudocyesis were at one time diagnosed as pregnant by medical professionals.

The hallmark sign of pseudocyesis that is common to all cases is that the affected patient is convinced that she is pregnant. Abdominal distension is the most common physical symptom of pseudocyesis (60–90%). The abdomen expands in the same manner as it does during pregnancy, so that the affected woman looks pregnant. These symptoms often resolve under general anesthesia and the woman's abdomen returns to its normal size.

The second most common physical sign of pseudocyesis is menstrual irregularity (50–90%). Women are also reported to experience the sensation of fetal movements known as quickening, even though there is no fetus present (50–75%). Other common signs and symptoms include gastrointestinal symptoms, breast changes or secretions, labor pains, uterine enlargement, and softening of the cervix. One percent of women eventually experience false labor.

To be diagnosed as true pseudocyesis, the woman must actually believe that she is pregnant. When a woman intentionally and consciously feigns pregnancy, it is termed a simulated pregnancy.

Causes
There are various explanations, none of which is universally accepted. Psychodynamic theories attribute the false pregnancy to emotional conflict. It is thought that an intense desire to become pregnant, or an intense fear of becoming pregnant, can create internal conflicts and changes in the endocrine system, which may explain some of the symptoms of pseudocyesis. Another theory concerns wish-fulfillment. It holds that if a woman desires pregnancy badly enough she may interpret minor changes in her body as signs of pregnancy. Proposed biological mechanisms include the effect of stress on the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, constipation, weight gain, and the movement of intestinal gas.

Demographics
The rate of pseudocyesis in the United States has declined significantly in the past century. In the 1940s there was one occurrence for approximately every 250 pregnancies. This rate has since dropped to between one and six occurrences for every 22,000 births [1]. The average age of the affected woman is 33, though cases have been reported for women as young as 6 and as old as 79. More than two-thirds of women who experience pseudocyesis are married, and about one-third have been pregnant at least once. Women who have been victims of incest may be at greater risk for developing pseudocyesis.

Treatment
Because pseudocyesis is not known to have a direct underlying physical cause, there are no general recommendations regarding treatment with medications. In some cases, however, the patient may be given medications for such symptoms as the cessation of menstruation. Because most patients with pseudocyesis have underlying psychological problems, they should be referred to a psychotherapist for the treatment of these problems. It is important at the same time, however, for the treating professional not to minimize the reality of the patient's physical symptoms. The treatment that has had the most success is demonstrating to the patient that she is not really pregnant by the use of ultrasound or other imaging techniques. There have been reports of patients being cured of pseudocyesis by hypnosis, purgatives, massage, opioids, or after nine months of symptoms, by experiencing "hysterical childbirth," but there are few data available on the effectiveness of these or similar procedures.

That was the first thing that came into my head when I heard that about Tom...was the safety deposit box and the key. Michael has the key does he not?

Seems that Tom had the real painting that was stolen but died before he could find a buyer to give him the best price. That must be what is in the safe deposit box.

However, if I recall years ago when they were talking about the box and the key, Tom or someone also talked about the chancellor ring. I think it was Tom. And it gave you the impression that Michael was Kathryn's real son. And that the ring was in the safe deposit box. I remember thinking and talking to my sister at that time about Michael being Kays son.

Maybe that's what Katheryn was remembering. That it was not Jill's son that she gave away but her own. And it was to Tom and she sent the ring along with him.

Maybe the son is Michael. Maybe the painting and the ring will show up in the box. That was my first thought when I heard about that box...it all came flashing back to me. Also......

I get the impression that Ryder is telling the truth when it comes to his abuse. He hates confined spaces and his face looks to real when telling of his past. Now whether he is Kevin's brother is yet to be seen.

This whole set up was to get to Kevin and Amber was just a consolation prize. Deacons goal is to get Kevin to maybe give them some info on where his father was living or some where that he may have hid the painting.

And man Oh man are the woman in this show all looney toons or what. The writers must really not think to much about woman to portray everyone of them as weak sniffling hang your head low human beings. It is getting insulting to say the least.

And what they heck are they trying to prove??????And what the heck is wrong with Victor? cant he see that Ashley is off the far deep end :confused3

I also thought that they had Paul go over board today. I mean I thought for a minute he was in a horror movie. Talk about Drama. Between the music they were playing and the scene, it was like a scene right out of the movie psycho. :scared1::eek::eek::eek::lmao:

Can someone please explain the storyline with the safe deposit box and Tom? I missed a few years of Y&R; that must be when this all took place.
