Holy War!
Last week, Mary Jane checked back into the GCAC with blond hair. As J.T. waited, Paul followed her upstairs to her suite and was shocked to learn that she really was Mary Jane. When he tried to call the police, Mary Jane blurted out that she's really his little sister. Uh-oh!
When Paul doesn't return, J.T. becomes concerned and traces his steps to the hotel room and is able to gain entry. Inside, the room is empty, but there are obvious signs of a struggle, so J.T. calls the police to tell them that Paul has gone missing.
Meanwhile, Mary Jane forces Paul to drive at knifepoint and the two of them begin to bicker. "As Paul pries and pries, she becomes so frustrated to the point that she screams at him," Stacy Haiduk explains. "He stops the car and that's when she accidentally cuts him with the knife."
As Paul bleeds, an emotional Mary Jane is relieved to learn that the cut is only superficial and she gives her brother the knife. "There's some family bonding there," Haiduk smiles. "Then they hear the police sirens, so he has to make a quick decision. She's afraid that he's going to turn her in. He doesn't say anything and the next moment, you see them in a church. This is also the church where Todd learned she was Patty, so it's like coming full circle."
Are they there to pray? "They come from a religious family, so he wants to take her to a place where he thinks she'll feel safe," notes Doug Davidson. "He calls his brother and Todd gives him the name of a priest at St. Jude's Church who Todd is friends with. Paul wants to take her to a place where he can keep her from getting hurt."
Across town, J.T. tells Heather that Paul has gone missing and she begins to fear for her father's safety. "Heather's shocked about everything that's happening with Mary Jane and her father," says Vail Bloom. "She isn't sure what to do."
Heather's fears get even worse when J.T. gets a call reporting that Paul's car was located with blood inside. Meanwhile, Paul questions his sister to find out why she came back to Genoa City. "He wants to know how she came to town and ended up doing all this stuff," says Haiduk. "She finally just tells him that she wants Jack back and he's shocked."
"She goes from being Mary Jane to more like Patty, but it's like she's stuck in the past. She kind of goes back 20 - 25 years in her mind and her big brother is there to protect her. When she starts talking about Jack, he realizes how far gone she is. His mind is swimming because it's a lot to take in," explains Davidson.
Patty lets Paul calls J.T., but only if he agrees to leave the police out of it. However, when Paul gets ahold of J.T., he's already with Heather and Chance, who are demanding to know Paul's whereabouts. When J.T. shows up at the church, Paul isn't happy to see that he's brought them along. "Paul is upset that all these people are there because he's afraid it's just going to make everything worse," sets up Haiduk.
Paul explains to Heather and J.T. that Mary Jane is his sister, Patty. "They're stunned, but Heather understands what Paul's going through," says Davidson. "Paul asks Heather to keep Mary Jane's identity quiet. He then explains that Patty needs to get serious psychiatric help instead of jail time."
Heather leaves the church and immediately tells Chance who Mary Jane really is. "Heather is worried about Paul's judgment," observes Davidson. "She knows he's not trying to make trouble and he's in a devastating position. But she's trying to work with the police to come to a peaceful resolution."
J.T. pops up at the Newman ranch and lays into Victor about his connection to Patty. Victor denies everything and tosses J.T. out of the house.
Meanwhile, Gloria and Jeffrey have a very provocative photo of Victor and Mary Jane together, so the two of them barge into his house and demand a hefty payment or else they'll hand the picture over to the media. Victor growls, "How dare you come here!" He picks up the phone to call the police and tells Gloria and Jeffrey that he's having them arrested. Scared, the two of them scurry out as Victor successfully calls their bluff.
Later, Victor calls the Bardwells with a new offer: Bring him Mary Jane! "I don't know why Victor thinks Boris and Natasha can find Mary Jane when the police couldn't," sighs Chapman. "I'm sure Victor will make them the fall guys if it doesn't work out."
When the Bardwells learn that Mary Jane is at the church, they come up with a clever way to get inside. "It's outrageous," teases Chapman. "But so is Gloria!"
Back at the standoff, Chance is given permission to enter St. Jude's, but Heather stops him until she hears from her boss. Paul announces that Patty refuses to surrender and the police will have to violate sanctuary to come in. The DA, Owen, arrives and orders Heather to convince Paul to turn his sister in. Instead, Paul calls the media and the church is immediately swarmed with reporters. On live television, Paul explains that Mary Jane is suffering from a severe mental illness and she needs help, but he does not mention that she's his sister.
Meanwhile, Jack is stunned when he sees Paul on TV. "Jack hears Paul, who has been out to nail this woman, suddenly defending her on camera and saying that she has had a difficult time," explains Peter Bergman. "Jack can't believe his ears and realizes that there's a lot more to this story."
Things get even more interesting with Mary Jane phones Jack. "This whole situation has her freaked out," says Haiduk. "She calls Jack without really thinking of the consequences." Mary Jane then tells Jack that she's pregnant! "That throws Jack for an absolute loop," chuckles Bergman. "He heads over to the church right away to find out what's really going on."
At the church, Paul pleads with Owen to put Mary Jane under house arrest with an ankle monitor. "He wants the same deal for Patty that Victor got for Adam," says Davidson. "Paul then warns that if he doesn't get the deal, he'll let everyone know there's two kinds of justice in Genoa City: one for the rich and powerful, and one for everyone else."
