she is tickled pink with her purchases and can't wait to frame them

She wouldn't be framing my item...just goes to show you that there are lots of nice people in ny : )

Thanks Sandy..I just responded. Even though they should, AOL won't accept the notes from this board telling me when I have a PM..and I always forget to check.

CANN..I just rejoined SD (I had to pay, since I had tried them in the begining), and I uploaded about 50 pics in a blink of an eye. Much faster than Vendio..so I think I'll soon be sold on it LOL.

Just a reminder..you should always shut down running programs (including virus programs) when d/l upgrades (or any program). Glad you have it working again.

Didn't mean to imply that there aren't...LOL  :goodvibes

Hello everyone,

I have recently taken the Ebay plunge and have been doing very well. I just started taking Paypal and I guess I didn't read everything I needed to know about. All of my Paypal payments have gone smooth except one I received today. It came over as "unclaimed" and I would have to accept or decline it. After reading another email telling me what the problem is - I have to upgrade to a business account or a premier account because the person paid with a credit card instead of a balance of their paypal account.

Sorry this is so long, but I don't want to upgrade to a different account, and how do I tell this customer that I can't accept their payment after I said I would take PayPal?

I guess this means I will not be able to take Paypal anymore, or can I somehow state that it must be the Paypal account and not a credit card. Please tell me if I am correct on this or not.

Thanks, Charlene

Ok - I'll do a few Sparedollar basics that kind of threw me off last weekend.

1. IMAGE Tab. Upload images (left margin). I did just a few at a time because I have dial-up upload (satellite download). It may have been me or it may have been SD last weekend because they have been doing site improvements. Try to keep the names one word length and no special characters or symbols.

2. LISTER Tab. Create your listings. (left margin) There are tons of really nice looking templates in different styles, formats. You can review each one and back up and correct it. You can do HTML with the little click links next to the text boxes. You can also save that format with a name so you could have one where your defaults were media mail info and another where it was priority, etc. Your ads should now be waiting in your list ready to launch. You can schedule them, but my scheduling failed so I just went in at the appropriate time and checked all and launched them. Once your page refreshes after launching you will see all of your auction numbers, etc.

After that, I did the 'Manage Folders' on the left margin and created a folder for the ads I had already launched. Then I moved the launched ones to the folder so I didn't accidentally relaunch a duplicate auction.

3. GALLERY Tab. Once your auctions are launched, go into the Gallery tab and Add new items (left margin). It will show you all your auctions and you can select the ones to add to your gallery. If you have one of the templates with the mini-gallery at the bottom, all of the photos you select will be displayed. Otherwise, I think there is a gallery link in all of the auction templates.

4. COUNTER Tab. Once your auctions are launched, go into the Counter tab and Add new items (left margin). It will display the Hits, Bids, Listing Price & Time Left. I go in there and refresh it often to see how they are doing. There is a line to 'Click here to Update Ebay Item Status. In the last 20 minutes while I have been reading the new info here, I have gone from 167 to 171 in counter views. No new bids though!!!

5. TRACKER - I haven't added anything to this, but it appears to be a good way to manage those completed auctions where you can track paid, shipped, feedback etc.

There is a User forum that is very handy. I had to ask a lot of questions last weekend, because I was expecting items to add to counter & gallery automatically - I guess it makes sense that you choose which ones you want. I was just lost for a bit.

Benefits? $4.95 per month. Even if you have a listing with 20 photos in it, the entire add from sparedollar is treated as a 'photo' so you are paying for one. It explains my long aged question of why these people would pay for 6 photos on a $2 item!!!! They didn't!!!!

There is a referral program also, but I haven't figured out how it works - most of the images for referring that you can put in your auctions are for non-ebay auctions. So that loses me. There is a direct email insert you can use so I should put that in my winning notifications - maybe I could drum up one or two.

Never mind - here is the answer:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, if you use one of the SD templates, a referral link is automatically added to your auction listing. Those non-compliant referral buttons can be used in other places (your ME Page, in emails, etc.).

Charlene - I have now set up two accounts for paypal. In order to be verified you will need a separate account on the back end of each paypal account. This isn't a problem for me since we have 2 checking and 1 ebay accounts. I think you can use a savings too to help get around that problem. I have one under my primary email which is my Premier account. That is the one that people will default to if they click and pay directly thru ebay. I have started rounding my Priority Fees off slightly - most people do that for their time but I figure it also helps offset the fees. Not much - I'll put $4.25 instead of $3.85 for PP base fee. I also put in my payment info part that if they are paying with PP available funds, to please wait for payment instruction from me. That way I can give them both emails in the notification and tell them pay XXX@XXX if you are paying with a credit card and pay XXX@XXX if you are paying with available funds. Also - if I am on mycoupons or somewhere and I see something for $2 I can still have them paypal me to the regular account without any fees.

The first step is that you need to deny the payment. Then email the buyer and tell them you can only accept paypal from available fund, direct from checking account (not linked through debit/check card) or echeck.

I do not accept credit cards and this is what I do when someone pays with a credit card.

Also do not check paypal on your auctions as forms of payment, this will automatically put the CC logo on your auctions and can be very confussing for buyers. Make sure you state this in your auctions also (bold and red if you have to :) )

Thanks for your replies and solutions! Like I said, I have been pretty lucky as this is the first time it came up. I only have one checking account at this time, so I will just have to let people know that I can only accept paypal through existing funds. I also have received a couple of e-checks that took about 5 days to clear. These must be OK, because I have not had any problems, other than they take a long time.

Thanks jgates..sounds like it works pretty easy..although I feel a touch of a headache coming on at the thought of starting over. They have really improved this site a lot since the begining..however the notices about closing for maintenance make me a little jittery LOL!

Doris - I'm going to suggest not trying it tonite - it has been fantastic - now starting about 7:30 tonite (gee-surprize) I have not been able to get my last auction to complete. It can't locate the pictures I insert (one time one is missing - the next time a different one missing). It was going just as slick as could be until about 7:30 or so. But I couldn't get the last one done in time - now I can't at all! Guess I'll wait till Tuesday and do a 5 day.

Just came back from the ebay discussion boards, seems that alot of blocked bidders lists are messed up. I went to check mine and sure enough there are names on it that I have no idea who they are. The ones that I put there aren't, but someone elses list is. I didn't have many bidders on my list, just 3 or 4. One was a non payer and the other were some that I read from the boards that are nothing but trouble when they bid and win your auction. So just letting you all know that ebay is having some type of trouble with the block bidders list....

Okay we are leaving in less than 2 weeks so I have not listed any thing else on ebay...scared they won't be completed in time...is this smart? I hate not having anything listed!!!! WITHDRAWAL!!! :hyper:
:teeth:
Anyway Is it too soon to stop listing?
I am sooooooooooooooooo ready to be "in the world" I am literally counting the minutes!

Here's anohter qustion for you all..

I had a vintage Epcot button up for sale.. and I had one bidder, and it sold. Our seller terms specify Echeck or Paypal only...

This bidder instead of either one of those sent a personal check. The amount is only for like $5.44. This bidder has 280 feedback all positive.

My husband is cagey becuase its not a money order, but a straightforward personal check.

Hubby checked on the sellers forum on Ebay, and it was his advice was to email the buyer, deny the payment and give him a NPB. I told him that I thought that was too harsh.. since all his feedbacks are positive.

It was my suggestion was to deposit the check, wait the 3-5 business days, call our bank, make sure it cleared and then mail it out.

What would you do?

About the personal check...I do take personal checks, I state in my auctions that there is a 10 day hold on shipping.

I hear that some people have gotten bad checks, but I have never had a problem.

I also know that my husband has asked sellers, in advance of winning an auction, if he could send a personal check rather than having to get to the bank or such for a money order. All of the people he has asked have had no problem with that. He always offers to wait whatever time length they suggest to be sure it has cleared.

I would offer to take it & hold shipping until you are sure there is no problem. I don't think anyone is going to write a "bad" check for that small an amount...but ya never do know.

Alot of buyers decide not to read the sellers TOS. I also put down that I do not accept personal checks. As of yet I haven't received any, but I'm sure that one day soon it will come. When it does come I will probably just wait out til it clears and then send the item. I think your husbands thoughts on this is a little to strong, but thats only my opinion. You can either email the seller and tell him your terms of service states no personal checks and mail it back to him, but for the amount, I don't think that warrents a NPB alert especially if he has all positive feedback. But then again, I may be too easy, I only give neg. feedback as a last resort and only if I get a non paying bidder. I only received 1 so far and as of yet I didn't leave any feedback. I'm waiting til the very end to do that. Sometimes a buyer really wants the item bad, but for some reason they can't get a money order or don't put their cc info. on line. They should have emailed you and explained the situation and maybe you would have made an exception to receiving a per.check. But in any event, I wouldn't do a NPB alert, I would just wait til it clears, but I would email the buyer and tell him about my TOS in case he wants to bid on any of my auctions in the future.

and it was his advice was to email the buyer, deny the payment and give him a NPB.

Gee, that's a little overkill, harsh (actually, it's a lot). The man prob didn't know what an echeck was..he prop thought it was a typo.
I would just politely write the winner, and tell him he must have misunderstood your auction discription, since you don't take personal checks. I would tell him, if it makes you nervous, (although if it's a higer number check, I couldn't be bothered), that you will hold it for 10 days (not that that means it has really cleared by then).
You have to overlook a lot of stuff when you are a seller..and if you can't roll with the flow, this stuff will eat you up. People just don't read, or understand..it's the nature of the business.

OK, I did the above and this person paid me again this morning through paypal with a credit card! I want to be polite, but I guess I will have to deny the payment again, and email her again. I explained the problem, and also gave her my address if she would like to send a money order instead.

Any other suggestions? I did modify all my auctions to reflect no credit cards for the future.

Hi. I have yet another question.

How does Bidpay work. Can you accept credit cards through them if so who is charged the credit card fee. Is it kinda like c2it (they are no longer doing it though). I know that through c2it the person with the credit card was the one charged the fee, is it the same with Bidpay?

I was thinking maybe accepting credit cards but not through paypal. It gets to expensive for what I sell.

Any help?

If I dont post anything before T-day. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

Tamie

Make sure when you email her that you say can not accept debit/check cards, these are just like credit cards. Tell her to make sure the funding is her checking acount not a credit card or check/debit card. Many do not understand that when you say no credit cards that check/debit cards are the same. Or that direct from checking account must be direct, not linked through a debit/check card.
