If I remember correctly, that's the right one - and I was asked the same thing and I just put my name in that spot..

It's been awhile - maybe someone who has done this more recently will have more info.......

I am so sorry, but this thread is WAY too big to read the whole thing tonight. I do have a question though. I was thinking of starting a business on ebay. But I really don't have much to sell. I was looking into drop-shipping. Does anyone have any info on the whole thing? If it is worth it? I got an e-mail from Monster.com with job listings and one of them is from a drop shipper wanting people to sell items on auction sites. DMRick- I read that you quit your job, is that because you were doing so well on ebay? Please e-mail me if you would like, I have tons of questions! Thanks again,

Cristen

Do womans clothes sell well on EBay?

I just wanted to comment about Checkfree, I've been using their service for about a year now and I love it. It's so easy and free, I never did figure out the free part?

Hi everyone,

I have been ebaying for a few months and doing well with it. So far no negative experiences until today. I checked my email and had a message from a buyer that the lesson manual from a homeschool package was not in the box. Now I know it was...I double checked that order three times b/c I checked this order three times. What do I do???

i am not going to go into great detail but my daughter was hit by a car and was in the hospital for 3 days with a broken femur. last week my brother took care of this for me and to get on ebay or email was the last of my concern. i'm sorry you are so unhappy. as far as your feedback goes write whatever you feel. i can't help that something this awful happened to me and my family. now i hope you can understand.

I recently had an incident, where I had a buyer wouldn't respond to my emails for payment, and then when I filed with ebay, responded "so sorry....I will get a money order to you as soon as I can". To make a long story short....I checked his feedback, and it seems that he recently had a negative for non-payment. I emailed back, stated that payment was already a week late and that he had 3 more days for me to receive the MO.
This is only part of the response....."my wife's surgery cost $40,000 just for our part and I have to be more concerned about that than you by a long shot, and we had the money when she bid and still have it but I am not going to squander any more money until I am sure about our finances." It only got worse from there....but he also did repsond with a similar thought on feedback, as your seller did....quite a bit nastier, so I won't paste and copy it here. The end result was he did get suspended.
Bottom line.....you will have to go with your gut feeling on this. C.Ann's suggestion is good, I would give that a try. I would also watch over the next week or so, other buyers responses....ones that would have purchased in the same time frame as you did....it will may help you decide where to go with the feedback....
Wish I could offer something more helpful.

Ok....I put 13 more items up for sale yesterday! Yea me!! That turbolister intriqued me so I downloaded it to check it out. How cool is that! I spent last night listing with it. I just love that program! In just the short time (2 days LOL) I've got it all down to a system and I'm just flying now. I even made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything and figured out how to hyperlink my item numbers so now if I'm looking at my spreadsheet I can just click on the item number and boom...there I am at my ebay listing! So neat! (I have a cable modem)
This Ebay thing may be just the thing I needed to keep me busy during the winter months and make some money besides. The only thing is though I tend to have a compulsive nature so this could be interesting.

C.Ann, thanks for the help....curious tho, how do you go about researching things? I mean I know about looking at completed items and all, but do you just pick an item and check them out or is there another place to see various things that have sold. (Did that make sense?) I'm definatly going to research what some childrens books sell for and keep a list in my purse.
Oh boy....my life will never be the same! LOL

Oh yes......Webmaster.....is it possible this thread could become a sticky? Sometimes it gets buried, but it is one that should always be easy to find. Thanks for the consideration!

Do you remember exactly where it was when you packed and checked your item??? If you do, you could email back and politely state, "When I packed your item, I placed the lesson manual "(ex. between the front cover and first page."). Could you kindly check there, as it is possible that it could have been overlooked. If this is the type of item you sell often, you could also state that you pack it a certain way for all your auctions.
Unfortunately, this may be a tough one for you....as there is no way you can "prove" that it was sent. Send off the email.....hopefully your buyer did just overlook it. Keep us posted.

I have several pieces that I would like to sell, but I am having a difficult time getting approximate values on them. They are the ladies figurines. The current/past ones that are on ebay are not like the ones I have. I have tried searches on yahoo, vivisimo and google and when I have found a site that has valuations with the same pieces, they have them listed as "sold" , so I cannot find any prices. Can someone point me in the right direction?????TIA

Thanks Claudia, I sent an email similar to that. I guess I'm just wondering what to do if she says she still doesn't have it??? Do I refund part of the $$...this is such a tricky situation I just don't know how to resolve????

Thanks for the replies regarding my auction I purchased (outfit for my daughter). I guess I can totally understand being delayed because of an accident. I guess, if it was me, I would have apologized instead of being the way she was. I'm sure she is stressed out and needed to blow off some steam. Maybe I just get to be the person she blows off her steam too. I'm just unsure what to do. A person shouldn't be able to list something as like new and then get away with sending a dirty outfit. I don't want to leave her a negative, though. I suppose I'll leaver her a neutral.

Yes, I agree, it is a very tricky situation. Possibly wait to hear from her....if she insists that the manual is not there, then you could email her back and ask her what she thinks would be a fair resolution. Sometimes it is best to put the ball in her court and let her come up with something.....then you can decide what you want to do. I wish you good luck on this....keep us posted.

I tried selling on ebay early this year, but I closed the account about 6 months ago. Frankly, I didn't enjoy it one bit...I don't really have a lot of time to spend with it (I can't get online every night to check email, I could only get to the post office once a week to ship, etc. - let's just say my double-full-time job doesn't leave me a lot of free time). Brand new items sold for maybe 1/3 of what I paid - i.e. a J Crew skirt that I'd purchased for $68, never worn, still in the shipping bag, sold for $8.00. People hardly ever read the terms of my auctions, which were always posted twice (in the appropriate section as well as the description section...even though I had listed "existing funds Paypal/no credit or debit cards accepted," they still paid with credit cards). I got the feeling that for someone who was just trying to sell some unused stuff, but not trying to make a living out of it, that ebay wasn't really the right place. Are there any other online places that would be conducive for someone like me who just wants to clear out a little (like the DIS auctions)? Or maybe I should just have a good old-fashioned "garbage" sale (as my DH calls it - although I really don't have the time for one!).

Any advice? Thanks!

You're welcome!:)

Okay - how do I do my research? Well - in several ways..

Take children's toys for instance.. (There are SOOOO many to be had in garage sales that are like brand new - not to mention the ones my granddaughter has outgrown..) I usually search by manufacturer - such as "Fisher Price", "Playskool", etc. - unless I want to research something specific - like doll houses, games, etc..

For holiday items (Halloween, Christmas, etc.) I just search by the holiday name..

BUT where I find my best categories is in "Collectibles".. I think many people assume that collectibles means "antiques" and nothing could be further from the truth.. People collect all sorts of things - new, old, and everything in between.. I have sold CURRENT brochures from places of interest for as much as $12 a piece! Yes - that's $12 for one piece of paper!!!! Also, what some people don't realize is that if you click on "Collectibles" on the left hand side of the home page and then go to the very bottom of the list of collectibles in very small print it says something like "show all categories" and if you click on THAT you could be reading for days on end!!! Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of sub-categories in collectibles!!

As an example of some things I never would have thought to "search" for are:
piggy banks
items with bank advertising on them
road maps
items with soda advertising on them
assorted pens and pencils
old AND new post cards
documents
calendars
ads
tools
sewing items

and on and on and on and on.......... It's nothing short of amazing to go through those categories and see what YOU might have lying around that someone ELSE collects!!

Take a look - I think you'll like it!;)

I had the same exact thing happen to me but with software. They said the software was not in the envelope just the manuals. Well from the postage paid there is NO WAY the software was not in the envelope. The buyer was very difficult to deal with (basically only wanted a refund not to help try to locate the "missing" software") and it ended with him giving me a neg feedback, because I refused to "buy" his story that it was not in the envelope, which he said was "intact" when he recieved it.

You pretty have to use your "gut instinct" on this. If they buyer seems unwilling to cooperate then my guess would be they got the manual but maybe it isn't quite what they thought or whatever (remember people do not read half of what you put in your auctions) so they are looking for a way out (refund).

Good Luck

Forgot to mention, I don't allow ANYONE to refer to themselves as "stupid" on this thread (except I can call MYSELF stupid if I want to 'cause I'm the "teacher" - LOL)...

We're all students - learning together!! I'm sure that even the pro's have made a mistake or two along the way..;)

They say you "learn from your mistakes" - in which case I'm getting an excellent education!!!!! LOL :)

Hi everyone,
I've been reading through this thread as it goes along, and have been using every bit of information, thanks all SO much! (thanks also for the ones who sent me here from the CB!)

I just wanted to let you know that I have already brought in over $400. in 3 weeks with my original art, and we are SERIOUSLY considering postponing our trip to Disney in October because things are going so well!! I want to pay for our ENTIRE vacation now, not just PART of it as originally planned...

We were also planning on going in February, so we are going to wait (I think!, It's hard to give up a trip!!) and were going to do one on credit...now I'm having so much fun, I can't wait to get more on!!

:):):):):)
Thanks so, so, so, much!!
You guys have been wonderful!!

By the way, Nicole, I think your clothes person is giving you a line! Who would actually consider selling with all that going on? "Oh, I realize my daughter could be in dier trouble, but I better phone my brother to make sure these clothes get on ebay tomorrow...."

Yep, that's sure what I would be doing, how about you??? You're a nicer person than I would be!

I have two items for .01 up for bid ending tomorrow. Only one has a bid for .01 on it. We'll see what happens. My auctions are awful this week.
