Hey everbody, I just got verified and just put my FIRST winnings in my OWN bank account.....:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I just sold my very first thing on Ebay. yay. It wasn't a lot, but it was more than I would have gotten having it just sit in a box!

But anyway, how do the fees work? At the end of the auction, does Ebay send you an email telling you how much you owe them in fees? Does it automatically get deducted somehow? I just want to make sure that I am doing everything right and that all my bases are covered.

Thanks. Sue

Ebay will invoice you. You than pay by whatever method you selected when you set up your account, i.e debit to checking or charge to credit card. If you go to the account page you can find out what your billing cycle is. Of course at any time you can make a one time payment to your account and than not have to worry about the debit/credit.

OK - I'm an admitted lurker...posting occasionally.

Last week I closed 8 items, with one non-payer (cancelled his account and everything after not paying me!) The others went pretty smoothly - just waiting for my feedback!!

I wanted to share today's experience with you all. You may know about this, but I didn't.

This morning I listed my old Weight Watchers materials - they seem to sell really well... This afternoon, I got a message from eBay that my auction had been ended "because a Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program participant notified us, under penalty of perjury, that your item infringes their copyright, trademark, or other rights."

It went on to say "If you relist this or any other similar items on eBay, your account likely will be suspended." Which made me pretty nervous - I'm pretty new to all of this.

Anyway, there was a link to go to the about me pages:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/vero-removed-listing.html
http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/vero-aboutme.html
These pages have a list of companies in the VeRO program and you can click on the About Me pages and read what you can and cannot list.

For example, you can go to the Disney Company about me pages and it will tell you that you can't sell bootlegged copies of movies, unauthorized character merchandise etc...

For me, I think if I take out a few of the offending items that were in my auction and relist I should be ok. I'm going with the assumption that eBay just has to take a harsh tone to discourage you from listing the same thing again in hopes you won't get caught.

I'm sorry for going on and on, this may have been addressed in a previous post - I've only made it through about half so far. I just thought it might help others that are new to this to make sure their auctions are legal!

Thanks HPHILBIN!!!
I had no idea!! I went to the link and browsed through some companies......very interesting!!!!
I'll have to keep all this in mind when listing.

Thanks Again!
Kimba

Woowee...today I earned a gold star. TEN positive feedbacks. :)

And I have officially paid for dinner for two at Ohana, Chef Mickeys, and lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

That being said - my auctions this week are DEAD. NO bites. Where are all the bidders??

I know many ebay buyers wait until the very end of an auction to place a bid, BUT my auctions (4 of them) have had no bids starting at $3 and $5. They just entered their final 24 hours, so I reduced the starting bid by half. What are your thoughts on this?

Well - I took a gamble - putting up auctions last week that would run through to this evening, tomorrow, and Thursday - as well as using the "Buy-it-Now" feature on some things and it paid off!!!

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm actually doing better than the whole two weeks PRIOR to that!

I'm telling you - there's NO rhyme or reason to eBay and it's bidders!

Let's hope the things I put up this week do just as well..;)

I'VE GOT BIDS!!!

Just check My ebay and I have two bids! One of the items is one that I reduced the price in the final 24 hours, the other still has nearly 2 days left. Makes ya feel good when you have bids on your has-beens. :D

I now have 30 items listed... that is a record for me. Only 4 have bids so far, but I am hopeful!

I want to share a story about one of my slow bidders, and how patience and understanding paid off. I had bought a lot of 11 1944 & 1945 magazines that were pertinent to the Merchant Marines. I listed one, and it had 2 bids. The winning bidder had about 40 positives, and I got the impression from his ID and his prior purchases that he is in the military and he collects WW2 memorabilia.
Anyway, he never contacted me within the prescribed timeframe. I started the NPB process, and after about 10 days he emailed me that he'd had a personal emergency and that he would be interested in additional issues of this mag, if I had them. So I described the additional issues I had, and waited. Another week passed, and no word. At that point I could have filed the final NPB and requested my fees. Something made me write him one more time. It turns out his 72 yr old mother had been rushed to the hospital and he had to take all his spare time to tend to her. I got a MO today for the entire lot of magazines, and made another $35 profit in addition to the original ebay sale. He also left me really nice feedback, even before I recieved his payment or mailed the magazines. I truly believe this guy went through what he stated.

I just feel like sometimes we should go with our guts and give people a chance. So often new sellers on this thread worry about whether a new buyer is trustworthy, or if they should be ready to doubt. Yes, there are jerks out there, but I really believe that they are far outnumbered by really nice people.

I do think that if we focus on looking for the goodness in people, that is what we will find. OK, sappy preaching finished.

Hey - nothing "sappy" about your "preaching" at all! I try very, very, VERY hard not to be cynical as I have family members (who will remain unnamed) who are SOOOOOOO suspicious of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING it drives me nuts!!!!!

I always trust people - take them at face value - until they give me a reason to feel otherwise.. I recently had a very slow payer too and "something" (I still don't know what) told me that this person probably had a very legitimate reason.. So... I waited and waited for payment via the mail.. It finally came and the buyer threw in a few extra bucks for my inconvenience!!

I think if we all just go with our "gut" feelings we'll be fine.. No sense "measuring everyone with the same yard stick" - right?;)
--------------------

Oh - by the way - last week I had close to 90 items up for auction!! I believe that's my highest so far - and on a week when I wasn't going to list at all because of the holiday!! LOL
Lucky thing I staggered the ending days or I'd be tearing my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I know that Sundays are supposedly the best time to end an auction. Is there a TIME that is best? I was going to list like crazy today, and I ran out of time. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Disney switching my reservation. So, now, I think I'm going to list tomorrow still. However, I think that MY personal best time to list is at night after the family is in bed. This can be as late as 10 or 11, though. Is it bad to list that late?

I have a dilemma. I put down in my auction which ends Sunday that I would include with a study book an added bonus of an actual test with a study book. There are 5 bids on them. A friend asked to borrow it before I sold it and told me it was sample questions rather than an actual test. It's better because it contains 150 questions, most which have been used on the test, while an actual test would only contain 50 questions. However, I don't want to deceive the high bidder or future bidders so what do I do?

What do I do in this case?

I had a buyer win several of my auctions, (videos). When I invoice I put the option of insurance if it is available. (In Canada sometimes we aren't given the option of insurance for small packages.) Anyway, this package was bigger so insurance was available. Now here's the problem...the buyer contacted me today stating that she hasn't received the package yet. It did not have insurance on it so there is no tracking number for it. It was shipped on the 19th of August and she should have received it already. Since she didn't request insurance am I responsible for refunding her if she still claims that she hasn't received the package? After reading so many stories about people being scammed it worries me that she may just want to get her money back.

Any ideas or thoughts greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Vicky
I don't refund on uninsured packages. The person had the option and YOU are not responsible for what the postal service does once you leave the packages. I will admit I have gotten one neg on an item the person says didn't receive. But they opted not to insure so they took the gamble and lost. Of course this is just my opinon. And I know others will refund (fear of neg feedback?) but I don't.

Can't you add to the desciption if there is a bid? I know you can not change it but i thought you could ADD to it?? Just add a little note saying, due to error that it is not an actual test but 3 TIMES the sample questions. Playing up that they are getting MORE sample questions then they would on a "actual" test.

GOOD LUCK!

If you have followed the sellers rules according to paypal then you will not be held responsible for lost/missing shipments. This means that you had to send to a "confirmed address", shipped within 7 days of receiving the payment, and can provide resonable proof of shipment that can be tracked online. If the person files a chargeback with their credit card company you have 3 days to provide info....if not paypal will allow you 7 days. So ultimately if you cannot provide this info to paypal, the seller will be issued a chargeback plus a fee....I think it is $10.00......also they can file a fraud complaint with ebay....and the process is similar. There is a limit of these any seller can get, and once the limit is reached you will no longer be able to use ebay or paypal.....what it boils down to, IF a buyer files a claim and you cannot prove that the shipment was received you will ultimately have to refund the costs plus a fee. This is why you will see a seller refund.
Which is one of the main reasons that I ship priority with a delivery confirmation.

I agree with you completely on this. I have had several buyers with whom I have had similiar experiences with and things turned out fine.....the one time I had the "gut feeling" that something was wrong, I was right on the money. Not only did the guy try to con me, but several other sellers. Within a week he had been suspended by ebay.

Well, y'all talked me into it!!!!

My first ebay auction is up for sell (I did 6 half.com ones in 2000)--can anybody use an HP 20 inkjet cartridge :)

The very first auction I listed - just one item - was an ink cartridge - and it went for WAAAY more than I thought it would! After that, I was totally hooked!! LOL

Don't get nervous if you don't get any bids right away though.. The last month or so the trend has been for buyers to not bid until the last day - or even the last few minutes..

Good luck - and welcome to our little club! ;)
