Hi, I am checking into class. I am currently taking pictures and writing descriptions in anticipation of listing everything on Thursday for 10 day auctions (which would end the following Sunday). Maybe I should wait for Sunday and do 7 day auctions? My DH has to do the picture part for me. I love being subscribed to this thread as it has continued to eat at me that I keep MEANING to start selling and still haven't. So here I go again! I am SO CLOSE! Kick me along.........

Okay - consider yourself KICKED !!!!!!!

Maybe this might work for you - a little extra motivation..;) You see, I have envelopes for all of my various expenses for my trip to Disney in December.. The envelopes are:

Air fare
Rental Car
Gas for rental car
Hotel
Dsiney Passes
MVMCP tickets
Universal/IOA tickets
Sea World tickets
Character Meals
Food Money
Spending money

BUT....that's not all.. There are 3 names written on each envelope (mine, grown DD & granddaughter) with a dollar figure next to it..

Now - whenever I get "eBay money", it goes in one (or several) of the envelopes and a check-mark is placed next to the name and the item that is now "paid" for..

I play with these envelopes every single day and when I feel like they aren't "filling up" fast enough it really, REALLY gives me the incentive (i.e. "kick in the butt") to get listing more.. Between last night and today, I listed something like 29 items - and will probably do more tonight..

Take it from the voice of experience - for over a year I was "gonna" do it, but never quite got around to it.. (Always found a good excuse why I "couldn't".. LOL) But finally I was just SOOOO overwhelmed with my desire to make this trip I jumped in head first..

There is NO DOUBT that this trip will become a reality now - but back in the middle of March I was just "Disney dreamin'"...

SOOOOOOO - just DO it !!!!!! Don't wait for the "perfect" time - it will never come.. Motivate yourself somehow.. Plaster photos of Disney World from magazines or whatever ALL OVER YOUR COMPUTER - listen to Disney soundtracks whenever you're near your computer - do the envelope thing that I'm using - but do it now!!!!!!

You won't be sorry..;)

Yay eBay!!!!

Save yourself the 10 cents and wait till Sunday to list as a 7 day auction! Though I've ended auctions on Thursday nights w/ some degree of success. You could experiment - list half on Thurs as 7 day auctions and list the other half on Sunday as 7 day auctions. A lot of eBay is experimentation and finding out what works best for you and for what you're selling. :)

Here I am kicking you along, Laura!

Why?

Well, I was right were you were a few weeks ago. I was reading and thinking and reading and thinking. Then I got to work.

Right now I'm in Orlando Florida and the auctions I ended just this week paid for my nights at the Portofino Bay Hotel!! This vacation was planned before I joined ebay but this is the first time I've been on vacation and left with more money than I came down with!

It's fun and a great way to make a little, or a LOT of money.

Come on in, the waters fine! :teeth:

Just dug out a couple of boxes of stuff I need to get listed..

Any idea how craft supplies and finished craft items do?

Also, how do I find a reputable coin APPRAISER, as opposed to a "dealer"? DH is ready to let his collection go but I need to find out what we're getting rid of before I list it..

I've been busy as a bee today - too bad I have to return to my "real" job on Tuesday.. Booooooooorrrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnngggg..

LOL!

Well the auction closed yesterday afternoon and I sent an email but haven't heard anything from the buyer yet. I'll probably end up having to relist it. On a happier note, I have been getting emails about my other items and a couple have bids!

Thanks again everyone for all the info :D

well, thanks to this group, I've sold a small fraction of my "stuff" for over $600. And had some amazing contacts from genuinely nice people who are genuinely glad to get some of my "stuff" at the price they got it for. Truly a "win-win". Since I professionally work in for a middle governing body in the presbyterian church, which is nudgy and nasty right now with all kinds of conflicts, it's nice to be part of a more graceful "congregation" -- both the Dis and the mostly moms who trade in my auctions on ebay.

I found a good reason not to end an auction prematurely. I had a NIP roll of vintage Laura Ashley wallpaper up from the early 90s. Most rolls seemed to go between 14 and 20 dollars, so I put the starting price at 14.99. With 5 minutes to go, it'd jumped to $25.00. in the last 30 seconds, it went to $68 and change!

Nice job erinch!!!!!!! If you can find the right buyer for your auction you can do very well as you have seen. Must have been someone who needed just a little bit more paper. Which of course translates into a LOT more paper in your pocket!!! :D

Just a heads-up for everyone. eBay has been cracking down on comparison listings, especially when used in listing titles. Some people I know have had their auctions cancelled in the last week because of it.

For example, you cannot put in a listing title:

Reproduction Disney clock, like original Disney

PacMan 2 game, similar to PacMan

1999 Dodge Caravan, not Chevy Venture, not Ford Windstar

People do this to get more hits from the search engines, and eBay is getting tighter about enforcement.

I don't do this but it is a very common listing technique which is going to become extinct soon. If eBay cancels enough of your auctions they will ban you forever.

Anyone having trouble listing today or tonight? My computer keeps "freezing up" on me while I'm trying to list and I have a TON of stuff sitting right here next to me....

sob..choke...sniffle...:( :( :( :(

They have always been very firm about this..if someone reported you. eBay doesn't have to even check out aucitons..there is always someone else to do it for them! I was in an eBay sponsered seminar some time back, and was told the only checking that gets done, is the vero's people..and they have their own software.

It's actually considered keyword spamming to do this..and you may see one person get away with it, and another not..just depends on if the auction has been reported.

eBay is harder on you if the keyword is in the title (more likely to end the auction than just give a warning) than in the description..but both are no-no's..as is writing a bunch of keywords and putting it in white so no one can she it..some people put in a thousand words..so no matter what your search, you always end up at one of their auctions.

I do wish eBay would let us mention our other auctions by name..such as if you are selling a crib sheet..it would be nice to be able to say see the matching curtains.

I have been reading this thread whenever I get the chance to and let me say it has been very informative.

I got the nerve to post an item which didn't get any bids at all. I have won 3 auctions so far and have gotten positive feedback.

I have a question about Paypal. I originally set my account up to pay with a credit card. Now an auction I won said "no credit cards through Paypal". How else can I pay besides a check. My other question is I want to accept Paypal payments and have a separate checking account for this. Can I have one account for paying with Paypal and one for receiving payments?

I want to start listing and I know I will get better response if I can accept Paypal. I just received a car load of stuff from an estate for free and I want to list what I can't use.

Thanks for all your info.

If you have money in your Paypal account, you can go into pref's and tell it to take from your paypal account first, or your checking account. Don't forget to switch it back if you are buying something big and want the protection your cc gives you.

The person you won the auction from must have just a personal account and doesn't take cc's.

I have two PP accounts..but the email addy's and I believe the checking account number's have to be different.

Okay okay okay-- you've convinced me to "ebay my way to Disney!" I'm sitting here thinking about what I could sell. My dd is 13 now, so her "little girl" stuff is up for grabs:rolleyes: Do you think anyone would buy things like her Snow White Comforter? Would I be better off to yard sale it? I have no idea what I'm doing! LOL

do a "browse" on ebay for active and completed items like yours.
There's a "like new" disney comforter with sheets currently at 43.00, while a few others don't have bids.

I went to the post office this morning to ship an item and ran into my dentist. What was he doing? Shipping his ebay items!! It seems that everyone is ebaying!

My DH who was initially skeptical of me having any success at eBaying, is now amazed at what people will actually buy, and be happy to get.

Now he's giving me ideas for things to look for up in the attic!!

Have you long time ebay'ers noticed that the buyers are really being strange this year?
I have been doing this almost a year now. The first six months I had no problems. Everyone paid, I sent things out and everyone was happy. Starting this February I have had non-paying bidders, buyers that aren't happy no matter what, and all around weirdo's bidding and emailing me about my stuff.
I'm not selling anything strange. Household items, clothes, shoes etc.
I've gotten two negatives in the past month. One from a buyer that never paid me! I left him a neutral, he left me a negative. Then I got another one from a lady that said a shoe I sold her was cut. It was perfect when I shipped it AND she refused to send them back and let me refund her. She left me a neg too.

I'm getting discouraged and I only need $290 more dollars to completely pay off our Nov. trip. I think I may take a month off and sell winter clothes in late summer. :(
