Since I'm leaving on a WELL deserved trip on Saturday to Orlando... yeah YAY!!! ... I will be ending some of my auctions on Thursday then the rest on NEXT Thursday. I'm saving a bunch of stuff to put up on Thursday for the NEXT Sunday.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this!

I asked a few pages back and I'll ask again:

Is anyone going to Ebay Live in Orlando in June???

I'm dying to go!

I'm not sure, but I think DMRick mentioned she was going..

Hey - have fun on your trip!!!!! ;)

I have to go out town for 5/23-5/30, so I am going to list a whole lot of auctions to start before Memorial Day weekend and to end the following Sunday (10 day auctions) to catch the browsers over memorial day but to have a Sunday ending the following weekend

***ATTENTION ALL EBAYERS !!!!***

There has been a lot of talk here today - about not listing items this week due to the upcoming holiday..

As your "teacher" I think it is only fair that I warn you...

Do NOT - I repeat, do NOT attempt to stop listing items on ebay cold turkey!!! The results could be devastating.. Some of the potential withdrawl symptoms consist of:

Slapping your DH up alongside of his head after he says, "I love you, honey.. So nice to see you someplace other than in front of the computer.."

Repeatedly threatening to "list" your children if they don't get out of your face - and then actually doing so..

Screaming at your mother that if her grandchildren want to go to college they can get up off their sorry little butts and start listing stuff themselves!!

Uncontrollable twitching of your "mouse" finger - followed by long periods of uncontrollable sobbing..

Randomly taking photos of everything in your house - even the food in the freezer..

Standing in the driveway, wondering, "Do we REALLY need two cars?"

Vivid dreams that you just sold you childhood Barbie doll for $9,365,250 - and not only were the arms and legs missing, but she was bald and had no eyes..

---------------

Believe me, this is not something you just want to jump into cold turkey.. If you must, "wean" yourself off by only listing one or two items a day - start with the kids and the pets, and end off with your DH....

:teeth:

C.Ann, you are inSANE!!

How about having a sister who will NOT let you in her house with your digital camera in your face???? She has sooo many awesome things that we could sell for a FORTUNE!! But unlike me she hordes her stuff.

Me? I'm trying to figure out how to send a bunkbed by media mail.... :p

I will be at e-Bay Live. I've had my ressies for 4 months! I have heard nothing but great things about the last one and am counting down the days!! If you (or anyone else) are going let me know and we can meet up, have a little DISBOARDS meeting!

Dturner:
I am really looking forward to homeschooling. My DD will be in the 2nd grade and we have had a real difficult time adjusting the the school system here! My DH was homeschooled and he thinks it's the way to go. Also, we own our own business (aside from my e-Bay thing) and both have the time to spend.

C.Ann:
I use to bartend and loved the extra $$, but could not stand the hours. I had been buying on e-Bay for a few years and just like you had some extra stuff lying around (and the thought of holding a garage sale gives me nightmares) and decided to see what the e-Bay thing was all about. As we all know, once you start you are HOOKED! I got the fever and have had it ever since.

One helpful hint is to start selling something you love. I sell nonsports trading cards and other odds and ends. I luckily had a pretty good collection started and had tons of extras I could sell off. That got me started and I ended up getting a Tax resellers license so I could buy wholesale.

LMK if you have any specific questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

I have a question for the veterans......

Since I am new to this e-baying thing, I got a question re: one of my listings from a potential buyer and I do NOT know how to answer it.....

I have a listing that he is interested in and the question was: What price do I want to "end it now" including shipping?

Now, again being new, how do you end an auction?? I'm assuming it's possible since he asked but I was really stumped by this question.....OK for all you vets I probably sound kinda dumb but please bear with me! LOL!!! I am one of C.Ann's students and am learning along with alot of the people on this thread she started!

By the way, C.Ann, you are a riot!! and I have enjoyed this thread tremendously!!! I have added almost $200 to my Disney fund in a little over two months! Not bad for a newbie!! Now if I only had some old Barbies!! I do have 2 KIDS though!! LOL!! Cute ones too so I should make a greart profit!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

whethre it's a good idea to end it early or not could probably be hotly debated.
There's a good chance if someone wants it now, it's because they believe the bidding will go up at the end. I would check the completed items to makes sure he's offering a price which is fair for your item. If you want to end it early click on this link to access the form (you can't get to the form without signing in under your id):

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html

good luck!!

Thanks erinch!

The thing is he wants me to name a price.......should I have him name a price and then decide from there?

I'm brandnew at this and you need a "vet" to help you figure out "what" to do--although I figured "how".

If it were me, I'd start with, are there other bidders? are there likely to be (how many bids do completed items get?)? is it valuable? what's his feedback rating?

If I were going to name a price for him, I think I'd name the highest price a similar item has gotten, and one you'd be happy with -- the price you would have put for a "buy it now." If he didn't want to match that price, I'd let the item go on getting bids, provided similar items typically get bids.

now you need someone who really knows to tell you...

What an awesome thread...I may just have to try this "ebay thing"!!

Awesome, Mary Beth!!

Depending on finances, etc., and if I don't go BANKRUPT on my next trip, I will be going also. I have a deal with the Marriott Grande Vista that I can probably use there. If they don't have any rooms they can put me up at the Renaissance at SeaWorld which is very close to the Convention Center. I really don't want to drag my 10yo son (ALL he'll want to do is go to the parks) so if I can get someone to watch him that weekend I'll go.

Where will you be staying?? And where do you live in Georgia?

BTW, folks, I had a couple of books up for two hours when they had two views and ONE BID! I haven't had anything have less than 40 views before someone bid!! WoooHOOOOO! I also have 2 bids on my Vermont Teddy Bear!

I used to work in radio and we get LOTS of promotional stuff. I've got boxes of this junk that is selling like mad. One is a stuffed Disney Cruise Ship with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald character riding on it in a clear tote bag. Someone gave it to me because I was the "Disney" lady at the station. I think this one will do well.

The books are from PR agencies who want their authors to be interviewed on the air. Boy, I had no idea I could make money from the stuff I was given!! That makes it all the more profitable!

This stuff is VERY addictive! All of a sudden my JUNK is going to pay my rent!! :bounce:

Anyone out there who are reading this thread and thinking of doing the Ebay thing all I have to say it 'JUST DO IT." You won't be sorry you did. I started a month ago and wish I had done this a long time ago. Now, I'm feeling guilty about all the money people are shelling out for these old barbie dolls and clothes, it just keeps going up and up and up, have 2 more days and I'm ready to end the auctions now but it'll be interesting to see at the end if they go up anymore (usually they do). I may just get two trips out of Ebaying!!!!!!!!!

:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

You never know what you have and what's it worth to other people!!!

M2boys:
The general rule is not to end the listing early. I have heard of Sellers who have had offers and refused to take them and then when the auction was over the items went for way more $$ than they ever expected!

I would do what Erinch suggested and search the closed e-Bay listings to see how much the item (or similar ones) sold for.

This is my reply to a request to end early:

"Thank you for your interest in our auction, but once we start an item at auction, we never end the auction early. This would not be fair to anyone else who might be watching this listing.

I'll be happy to contact you immediately if you are the high bidder at the end."

I have never had a complaint and the buyer requesting an early end has always bid on the item.

Good luck whatever you do!

Mary Beth

Robinrs:
I hope you can make it!

I will be staying at the Sheraton Safari. Got a great deal through Priceline! There will be daycare at the convention ($5 an hour) so I am bringing my 7 yr old DD. I've signed up for the classes that interested me and we will be at the parks the rest of the time!

My goal is to put up at least 20 items (hopefully more) a night for extra spending $$. We went down to Tampa about mid April and I had auctions running and scheduled to end the day we got back. I went to the public library every other day while I was down there to check my e-mail and answer any questions bidders had (and to see how the auctions were going!). So I had $$ coming in after the trip to make up for all we spent!

I also have the Paypal debit card. This is great to have (as preveously mentioned) cause of the cash back they give! So I use it for all my extras on vacation. One thing I'm not sure was mentioned is that when you use the debit card, ALWAYS use it as a credit card or you do not get the cash back.

You are so lucky to have all that stuff to sell!! People will buy anything. I once sold one of those individual bags of potato chips that advertised the Xena & Hercules animated cartoon. This bag came from Greece and was not in English. Anyway I was hoping to get maybe $5 and it went for $55! I had gotten it for free!!

I am in Woodstock, Ga about 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta. Where are you? It is so great that this year they are holding e-Bay Live so close to home! The last few years it has been on the west coast and that is to far for me to go!

Mary Beth

I agree with twinklingstars on ending early. All you are going to accomplish is ticking off the bidders who have already placed bids. And sad to say but there are people out there who seeing your new rating will try to get away with buying something for less than it would often go for. Let the auction run its course is my advice. That's what makes ebay a fair and easy way to do business. If it doesn't sell, you do get to relist for free afterall.

Thank you all for your advice on ending an auction early.........it makes more sense to hold on until the end!

Anyone have a good site about dolls? I have an old Ginny doll but I have no clue what year she's from. Since I have 2 boys I see no reason to keep this doll stuffed up in the top of my closet. Thanks!

CINDRES: Check ebay for the same item and see what it's selling for.

I have been selling a lot of vintage Barbie dolls and clothes and just put $4.99 on all of them, needless to say collectors will know what the stuff is worth, all my items have gone up and up and up ............
