I need a good site for identifying dolls too! I pulled out my old box of dolls, and found my Chatty Cathy, Betsy McCall, and the much sought after Shirley Temple 17" from Ideal.

However, there are a few dolls that I really can't identify so I don't know what to look up. And sometimes even if you know their name, there aren't any listed on eBay to compare.

dturner,
Have you listed your vintage dolls with any reserves? The Shirley Temple doll I mentioned has had completed auctions of $160, $132, $150 etc. I want to make sure I get the right amount, and I'm also not sure when to start the auction, (with the Holiday wkend), or what to start the auction at. Any ideas?

CINDALA:

First of all, I had no idea how much my old Barbies and clothes would go for, I put no reserves on them, listed most items for $4.99 and the highest bid won so far is $101.24 for one Barbie doll. Right now, I have 7 listings of clothes and dolls and the highest bid is $132.00 which had an opening list of $4.99. This has really floored me, I'm so glad I didn't just throw them out or that my Mom didn't throw them out years ago. If fact, yesterday I had several emails about one piece of clothing for a Dawn doll that was in a lot of dolls and other clothes, apparently this one piece of clothing is rare and mine is in perfect condition so I'm assuming that is why the bid has gone so high, who would of thought? Not me, that's for sure. I know nothing of vintage barbies, clothes, etc. I just found the date on the dolls, took pictures and described them the best I could, collectors out there will know.

I also have that Shirley Temple doll, wow!!! now to find where mine is at, must be at Mom's house, seems like I need to spend some time at Mom's looking through all the "junk" I mean, Ebay collectibles, I could be sitting on a gold mine and not know it.

Great, Marybeth!

BTW I live in Chamblee, one foot out of Atlanta. Couldn't stand the commute anymore! :teeth:

I get the feeling that EBAY live was SUPPOSED to be in Orlando this year just for me! My son would HATE a babysitter but for a few hours I guess it won't KILL him! I'll see.

I have to check out those doll sites, there is a thrift shop in my area that have a bunch of dolls just thrown in a bin to pick over. I'd be amazed what could be in there!

Robin- I live in the Chamblee area as well right by Northlake Mall and was from Queens originally!

It really is a small world.

I just signed up as a seller and will slowly start adding items to get my feet wet. My mom has to move and I am going home to help her and might just grab some extra vintage cook books and definatley look through the attic for old toys :)

I also have a bunch of Disney pins I will be getting rid of and scrap book supplies I don't use anymore.

Thanks everyone for the inspiration!

Wow! Howdy, neighbor! :teeth:

No wait, you're from Queens... YO! WhazzUP?! :p

My son goes to school in Northlake, right on Henderson Mill. This IS a small world!

Moms attics and basements HAS to be THE place to be now. I am in the process of selling my parents' home and I have a LOT of their stuff. Just finding a home for it all has been a challenge. Now to find someone else who wants it!

I'm so looking forward to Christmas! This time I'LL be the seller instead of the BUYER! :bounce:

My sister went to Henderson High! TOOOO Funny!! :p

I don't think your son would mind a little babysitting, if he gets an unexpected trip to Orlando! My DD is so excited. She's even looking forward to the childcare (there is suppost to be activities and other things for the kids) so she can make some new friends!

Boy, I MISS when my son was 7! They are still children at that age! waaaaaaaaaaa!

Are you driving or flying? I usually check Airtran's sales but I MIGHT drive this time.

Some of the Ebay University courses sound awesome. It would be great to mingle with people who have been doing this for YEARS and find out everything I need to know.

Getting EXCITED! :bounce:

Okay class - settle down here !!! It's okay to exhange ideas and what-have-you but you're all getting carried away - talking out of turn - bragging about all the money you're making (that I'm not!! ) and generally just being disruptive!!!!

LOL!!

Seriously though, I don't have anything decent up for auction right now (only about 6 things) and I have NO bids at all!! sob..choke..sniffle... Guess I gotta get busy and put some better stuff up.. I just don't want to take a chance on getting next to nothing for it over the holiday weekend though.. (Greed is a terrible thing... LOL)

Glad to hear everyone else is doing well though!! Won't be long and we'll all be swapping our Disney stories!!! ;)

Yay eBay!!!!!!!!

Don't feel bad, I don't have any bids either, probably because I don't have anything listed right now!:teeth: Have to work on that!! Seriously though, I wonder if this is a little sneak peak of what the summer might be like

It depends on what you sell. If you sell new items that are great Christmas gifts, this is the start of the slow season. If you sell hard to find older Barbie dolls, or something that is moch coveted, then there is no bad time IMO.

This may have been brought up before but I have to know, where are you guys getting your shipping supplies?

I have some things around the house but now I have to start buying (ugh) them. Any good ideas?

Thanks!

If you ship by Priority Mail, you can get supplies (boxes & tape) for free at the post office, or at USPS.com. I buy bubble envelopes at the Dollar Tree, and anything I can fit into them, I ship that way! (Make sure you pad the shipping price by about .50 to cover the price of your envelopes!)

If it's free your looking for here are a couple of posts off the e-Bay PowerSeller discussion board:

"Toy r Us Gives them away ..huge amounts . So does the local 1 Dollar stores ...Micky D's has huge amounts of boxes."

"I NEVER pay for boxes! I just call the local T.J. Maxx and ask them to save a few for me. They also save packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and styrofoam. Best of all it's FREE and unlimited."

I've heard that any medical center will give you their boxes. Also, little stores like Halmarks have all kinds of packing materials for the taking. Most places would rather recycle than throw away stuff and they also like the fact that they don't have to waste time breaking down the boxes and hauling everything to the trash! I am almost out of my shipping supplies and I plan on try some of these methods before I pay for supplies!

info on free boxes. I have actually ordered these boxes from UPS and they ship them to you fast (and they are free)!

For free UPS boxes:

Call 1-800-PICK-UPS
Dial option 7, then 0 to talk to the operator.
Tell her you want to order STOCK #010195218 or STOCK #010195217. They all come 50/box.

These are the free boxes. They are called security boxes, and these are the only ones they have. The #010195218 are 9x6x3 and #010195217 are 13x10x3.

*Don't mention anything about free boxes.. just say you want to order these stock numbers or security boxes. *

I'm sure I'll come up with more, just give me time!!

I ordered tape, labels, etc. from the USPS about a month ago, and still haven't received them. But you say the boxes come quickly? Maybe I have to order them again!

Wow thanks for the UPS tip. They are sneding me 1 case of each of the 2 sizes no questions asked :bounce: :bounce:

They said they would ship them out in 1 to 2 business days. I can't believe how easy that was. It almost felt like I was doing something sneaky but they only asked if it was for a business or residence (I told them residence) gave them my address and that was it :teeth:

I'll let everyone know what they look like when I get them!

Waughzee:

The UPS boxes are unmarked (just brown cardboard like you would purchase at Office Depot) and can be used with any carrier. They are pretty sturdy to, I use them to ship heavy books USPS Media Mail all the time!

Eeyorefanatic:

Glad to be of service! :p
Every penny counts and when it comes to shipping they add up fast!
