Why would a warning come up for records???

I should have said cassettes...that's how old I am LOL. The warning is about people copying and selling..although you could copy and sell a record too.

Without giving away what you were trying to sell..did you see my email? I think the prohibitted item is similar to what you had up..but not the same. Although maybe yoru item is also no longer allowed. The other item has been recalled.

DMRick, you were mentioning that you use this through AOL for your auctions. Can you please tell me how to do this?

I know how to do it for AOL..but not other isp's. I do know how to point the picture into your description once it's loaded, but I don't know how to load the picture into your isp.

Here is what you would do to put it in your description...without the *****

Please help!

I have 2 auctions ending in 2 days. The bidder on both items has 0 feedback and just registered 3 days ago. I just received the following e-mail from him.

"This is regarding the two items that I am bidding on. I just realized today that you will wait 10 days for the check to clear. The sale ends the 7th and I will be going out of the country around the 17th, and I was hoping to take these items with me to study for the November exam. Would you be willing to deposit the check right away if I send you a check from my parents' business? Also, if I were to send you the money, could you mail the items by priority or express mail? I would greatly
appreciate it."

As a new seller what do I do? I don't want to take a chance of having the check bounce, but I don't want him winning and posting me negative feedback because I refused to send the merchandise until the check cleared. I'm especially worried because he wants to send me a check from someone else's account and he's planning to leave the country!

Thank you for any advise.

CarolJ - How about suggesting he send you a money order? Otherwise, I would stick with the 10 day wait.

If it is from his parents account, request that he send you a bank check/tellers check.

Thanks, eeyore74 I'll do that. What I'm worried about is that he'll win the auctions, refuse to send me a money order and then post negative feedback. Any suggestions on how to avoid that?

Or am I worrying too much about nothing? It just sounds a little suspicious that he wants to send me a check from his parent's bank account and he's immediately leaving the country so he wants it sent by priority or express mail. With no feedback I don't know if I'm making too big a deal about this.

Phew! Am I ever beat!! I got 17 auctions all packaged up to send out tomorrow morning and when I went to check the rest of the auctions I had ending I found that I have 3 more that should go out with the others - and I have a whopping 24 other auctions that sold and are pending payment!!!!!!!

Now why was it I didn't want to list any of this stuff last week ???????????? LOL

Hope I catch my second wind by tomorrow so I can start listing again...........

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy eBay!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Wow..44 sold auctions all at the same time! Congrats to you.

Amazing, C.Ann... Wow. Good for you!

CarolJ, I don't remember if you have stated whether you take PayPal or not, but if you do take CCs through PayPal, how about telling the buyer that the only way you can get it shipped quickly enough for his dates would be to request PayPal (not an echeck, either). I don't think you said what the items were but it sounds like books or study guides, and the explanation doesn't sound unreasonable. Everybody has to start with 0, but if you're worried, asking for a PayPal payment will finish the transaction quickly for both of you.

If this wonderful trend continues, we may be able to "upgrade" from the "Rockin' Roach Inn" to one of them thar fancy hotels that serve up grub in the mornin' and gots one of those purdy swimmin' holes !!!! :teeth:

Yeeeeeeeeeeeee Ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your helpful feedback on bidders with 0 feedback. I just had a great sale with a new bidder! She paid within 2 minutes of the auction ending and was very friendly.

However, I'm still worried about the other bidder on 2 of my auctions with 0 feedback. He wanted me to send him 2 items with a check from his parent's business account , but not wait for the check to clear since he was leaving the country. I e-mailed him a friendly e-mail and told him he could cash the check and purchase a money order and then he would receive his purchase right away.

I never heard back from him . I heard from other ebayers that there is a scam in which new bidders try to get you to mail their purchases without having the payment clear. If you refuse to do so they threaten you with negative feedback after the auction ends. Several people have told me to cancel and block his bids. I don't want to do that, but then again I haven't heard from him about the money order issue. What should I do?

Sorry to keep pestering everyone, but I don't know anyone who ebays and can help me. In fact ever since I started 2 weeks ago people have been asking me to help them get started!

If you have a gut feeling that this may be the case....sounds a little funny to me as well, you may be well advised to cancel and block.....If you do cancel his bid, I believe he would not be able to leave any feedback as there would be no current transactions between the two of you.....block him if you decide to do that. You certainly would have good reason to cancel this bid, that is all ebay requires.

I have sold a lot on ebay, but only made a few purchases. I recently made 2 and both items were terribly. Clearly not what they were listed as. The first was a pair of "excellent condition capri's". They things were very, very worn (the fabric has thin spots). They were listed w/ "excellent condition" in the desciption twice. Next was a nascar running suit for my son. The ad said there was a "pinhole" size rip in the knee of the pants. I was really pretty much interested in the jacket that came with the item anyway. Well, the "pinhole" is at least as big as a penny. The jacket arms have numerous stains and discoloring to them. Both of these sellers are just begining with feedback. I myself only have about 50 (ish).

I am not going to waste my time sending the item back for a refund. By the time I pay to ship it back, I'm wasting just as much as I'd be getting back. My question what kind of feedback would you leave? Would you contact the seller first. There is really not much to work out, in the fact that I paid (for the running suit as example) $5.00 for the auction, $5.50 for shipping. I'd have to pay an additional $5.40 (what the postage tag said) to ship it back. Most likely they'll only recoup my auction fees, which were less than I'd pay to ship it back. So, I am considering the money/item a loss. However, I do think other buyers should beware. Any advice???

The capris, I think, are the big problem. For her to notate that they are in EXCELLENT condition is a big lie. I would contact her, explain your problem and at most I'd either not post feedback or post a neutral.

Hi all. well my computer broke and we had t get a new one,UGH. Meanwhile I was waiting for an echeck to clear. i was nervous that it was going t clear before we got the new computer and I wouldn't be able t send out the item right away. being I'm a newbie at selling I want to send out the items right after payment, t avoid any screaming buyers. so I sent out the item anyway. and luckily when we set everything up, paypal sent me the notice that it did clear. so the buyers will get their item saturday. anyway, I have an item(an armani statue, 2 of them) that I want t put on auction.after doing sme research they seem to be selling for $$. Packaging is a problem. Its delicate so I'm afraid it'll break if I package it myself. I asked about having it packaged and they want around $40.00and up just fr packaging, then shipping would be $$. If all you experienced sellers have something to hard for you to package yourself, what do you all do? I'm thinking just to frget about putting it on auction. Its pretty heavy also, around 15lbs. without it being boxed? any ideas, or should I just forget about it til I get more experience at this selling business.
I was gone frm here fr 2days, and I missed this board. I'm glad I'm back on line again.

dg39, I'd suggest you try lisiting it as local for pickup... then you would not have the shipping costs or packing worries. You may not get the number of bids that would potentially come from a nationwide audience, but if these are as specialized as they sound, chances are some people in the NY area would be interested, at least.

Do you still have the orginal box for the statues? That would be the best to use, but if not you can still pack and ship it safely.
1) make sure your shipping container/box has atleast a 200lb test.
2) Make sure that the box you select has atleast 6 inches extra width from each dimension of the statue or statue box.
3) use crumbled newspaper to line your sides and bottom of the box. Make sure you have a 6" layer on the bottom and sides.
4) Wrap your statue (with/without the original box) in a layer of bubble wrap, and fasten.....wrap an another layer of bubble wrap.
5) Lay it in the box and then again add additional newspaper to make sure that it is secure and does not move/shift. Make sure there is atleast 6" crunched newspaper over the top.
6) Make sure that you seal every edge of the box....top, bottom and sides. Use a crisscross pattern over the top and bottom.

The more secure and solid you make your box the safer it is to ship.
I used to be a government contractor....the shipping regulations were to spec., not a detail left to the imagination!!!LOL

I also would not allow insurance to be optional on an item like this.....list in your auction that insurance MUST be included/paid for by buyer. You would probably do well with a FedEx delivery on this.....but that is entirely up to you.

I am not going to waste my time sending the item back for a refund. By the time I pay to ship it back, I'm wasting just as much as I'd be getting back. My question what kind of feedback would you leave? Would you contact the seller first.

I would definitely contact the sellers and describe to them what you have stated here. Both of them were not honest in their descriptions and that absolutely must be addressed first. Based on their response is how I would leave the feedback. If you were satisfied with the response, perhaps they offered a refund...or anything else that would make you feel better about the transaction then I might leave a postive, listing the reason as to why (ex. unhappy with item, not as described, but seller offered parital refund)......if you receive no reply or a nasty response.....possibly a negative would be appropriate.
If they are new sellers I am inclined to think they would want to make things right.

Hi everyone~

My name is Heather, and I've been lurking on several of the DIS boards for about a week, and WOW, is this a fun place to be! I was a regular on the AOL Disney boards a while back, but got rid of AOL, and was having Disney withdrawal. LOL! I found this site by planning my upcoming trip in early Jan. Yippie! I feel like I know so many of you, and this eBay thread is wonderful. I've been eBaying for quite some time, but just on and off, as I find things to sell. I have 2 shopping bags full of stuff that I have had sitting here next to the computer for about 1 1/2 years because I "didn't have the time" to list the stuff. Well, since reading the posts here (I am now cross-eyed because I read EVERY post on this thread! I am a nut, I know) and learning many of your tricks I am now motivated to post my items, and I'm already mentally going through the house to find more. It is sad to say but I feel like an eBay "newbie" after readingi how savvy you all are. I don't have PayPal (was scared of it, as I didn't understand their directions!), but I'm going to sign up for it, as it's a GREAT way to eBay!

Thanks for all the advice and help! I'll be posting here and on other boards as well, so I just wanted to say a big "Hello" before I jumped right in. And I must say that I 've loved reading about the Tag Fairy! I am a believer! (clap clap clap)

I sure hope this post looks OK, as I'm not sure exactly what all I signed up for. hehe. I need to go and figure out how to add a counter & other neat stuff. :D

can someone help me with this. I have an outfit that I want to list. I also have shoes to go with it that I want to offer to the bidders if they are their size they can have them for no additional charge. I don't want to charge them for the shoes, but I do want to add it to the shipping amount only if they take the shoes. Its a childrens costume and the shoes belong with the outfit, but if their not their size and they don't want them, I don't want to charge them for the shipping weight of the shoes. so how should I word this in the listing. Now remember I always mess up on shipping thats why I use a flat rate. can I write in the listing that shipping for the outfit will be 5.00, but if you want the shoes it will increase it to 6.00 and if I do that how do I put it in the shipping info on the listing site. I think that alot of people can't be bothered contacting the seller for shipping amounts so I would hate to add conact seller for shipping costs.
