I would list the shipping for the total weight of the complete costume...unless the shoes are very heavy the shipping probably wouldn't change with or without them.

Don't remember but....have you tried weighing your items + packaging so that you can add a calculator to your auctions???

As some of you know, my auctions did very well last week and I had quite a few packages to ship out today before I headed up here to the lake..

Because I knew the postage fee was going to be a hefty one, I decided to wait to "sweep" my account until after I had charged the postage on my Paypal credit/debit card so I could get the 1.5% cash back..

Well - after the woman at the post office (not the regular I usually deal with) weighed and affixed the postage to all of my packages and came up with the grand total (over $50) I handed her my Paypal credit card..

She put it through their machine and - nothing.. Put it through again, still nothing.. As she went to put it thru a 3rd time I questioned if that was a good idea (because she idicated that they had been having problems with their charge machine for at least two days now) and I was concerned with getting multiple charges, but she said it couldn't happen because the "paper" wasn't coming up - nor was an authorization number.. After she tried repeatedly to get the machine to work I told her to forget it and I wrote out a check..

I stopped at K-mart on the way home to grab a few supplies and used the Paypal card with no problem so I figured it was definitely the machine at the Post Office that was on the fritz..

Came home and started throwing things together to come up here to the lake and just had this "gut" feeling I should check my Paypal account before I left..

ALL OF THE MONEY WAS GONE !!!!!!

The charges from the post office were put thru SEVEN times!!!

I immediatley called the Post Office and they said they would call me right back.. Meanwhile I scurried around and found a number to call Paypal (having already printed out my pathetic statement from on-line).. The guy I spoke to at Paypal was GREAT... He said he could stop 7 of the 8 transactions immediately - but for the last one I would have to have the Post Office fax them the info saying that they were not requesting any money, the date & time of the transaction, my account number, etc.. Unfortunately that money could not be returned for 48 hours though..

Get off the phone with him, and the Post Office calls (yet another woman).. She says they did a "log" of all the charges that day and there is NO record of my card being charged!!!! Sorry to say I went ballistic because she was VERY snotty about it.. She said if I had proof, I needed to bring it down there and she would "see" if there was anything they "should" do...

I flew out of the house like a mad woman - armed with my print-outs, my charge card, the phone number from Paypal, and my receipt from the Post Office...

And would you believe she still gave me a hard time??? She kept looking at 4 of the charges that said "denied" and I couldn't make her understand that they were denied because the other charges from the PO had wiped out the account and there wasn't any money there!!!!! Finally I demanded to speak to someone else.. This guy acknowledged that they had been having problems with the machine but he had no idea that the charges were actually going through.. He started to say he would "check into it" and "get back to me on Monday" and I said, "I don't think so!! This was YOUR error.. I am NOT going to wait 48 hours to have the money back in my account via Paypal and I am NOT going to wait for you to "check into" a problem you have been aware of for at least two days.. I want the check I gave you - and I want it NOW!!"

I think I must have scared the living daylights out of him because I had the check in about 2 seconds flat.. And would you believe they never even said "I'm sorry" ??????

Went back home - called Paypal - told them to let the ONE charge go thru - checked my balance (A-okay now) - and I finally just arrived here at the lake..

Sooooooo.. the moral of this story is: When you use any credit card ANYWHERE, if it doesn't go through the first time DO NOT LET THEM CONTINUE TO SCAN IT REPEATEDLY - no matter WHAT they tell you!!!

I also overheard one of the other postal clerks saying she had been having problems scanning credit cards ALL DAY - and had to do them repeatedly - so I imagine they are going to have their hands full with some very irate customers when they go to withdraw money via their debit cards - or charge things - and their accounts are depleted..

I still can't believe it - they didn't even apologize!!!!!!

C.Ann, UNBELIEVABLE

Good for you for handling it as you did. I am appalled that they never even apologized for your trouble and for giving you a near-heart attack! It is good to hear that PayPal was so responsive.

I hope the rest of your weekend is uneventful!

Hey guys, I am in need of help! I have listed a Tinkerbell Halloween costume and was really excited that I already had a bid on it, UNTIL... I looked to see who had bid on it. This person, first of all has her feedback as private, but has 13 neutrals and 20 negatives, with 1 of those in the past month. She is a seller, and lives in ....... FRANCE. I don't ship outside of the US (or at least I don't think I want to (Isn't there alot more paperwork at the PO?) If you could give me opinions on what you would do, I would appreciate it. There are 5 days left, so I could always just hope she gets outbid. Thanks, Sandy

With THAT many neutral and negatives I would cancel her bid and immediately block her!! I'm not sure of all the "rules" (hopefully someone else will pipe up here) but I don't see why you should have to allow someone with such an appalling record bid on your item..

CAnn..one of my biggest offenders (I have posted this before), is when I buy items at Disney. They seem to always catch it and I also see the credits...at least I think they catch them all.
Doris

Sandy- Definately Cancel her bid and block her. If she emails you, tell her you don't ship outside the US and you don't sell to people with 20 negatives.

C.Ann- Unbelievable!! I'm so glad that everything worked out for you.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous! I had another bidder, whose bid only upped the original bidders proxy, that has almost as bad of feedback as the other. The only difference I can tell is that her last neg was past 6 months ago. If anyone would be interested in looking at these peoples feedback & relitive information for me, Please let me know and I will PM you the item number. I'm not sure what to do. Oh, BTW, if I do need to cancel a bid, how exactly do I go about doing that? Thanks In Advance. Sandy

This may be a "dumb" question, so forgive me ahead of time...

When holding a check for 10 days for it to clear - it is 10 BUSINESS days, correct??

I received personal checks on the same day (8/26) for auctions, and one emailed me asking if I was shipping anytime soon. According to my calculations, I need to wait until next Wednesday (due to the holiday). Or do I count Saturday as a "business day", since my bank is technically open that day?

Are you actually holding the check? or the item? I would hold the item for 2 weeks after I deposited the check. If you told the person that you were holding it for 10 days but did not say 10 business days then you should count every day, if you said business days then you would exclude Sat/Sun and holidays in your count of "days."

This was probably already discussed, but I missed it, but who leaves feedback first the buyer or the seller. the first item that I sold I'm positive the buyer received, but I didn't hear from him. I'm assuming he's happy with the purchase or I would have heard something by now. Should I just go ahead and leave feedback now or wait for him to leave it for me. He paid instantly and the very next morning I ran to the post office and sent the item, priority mail w/dc. I guess theres no rule to this, but I'm wondering what everyone else does?

Here is a link to an eBay article that has tips from experinced sellers:

dg39,

Feedback protocol varies, and different opinions have been expressed on this thread. Some sellers leave feedback as soon as they receive payment. Other sellers wait until they know that the item is received and the buyer is satisfied, or if not, that all issues have been taken to final resolution.
Some sellers use auction tools which leave FB automatically, and is triggered by FB left by the buyer for the seller.
FB is voluntary and only represents an opinion. Its use as a reliability measuring device has been questioned, on this thread, within eBay Community postings, and elsewhere.
I typically leave FB upon receipt of payment, and I have had FB left for me as late as 6 or 7 weeks after delivery of an item. It's easy to become anxious about acquiring a high FB number, but it will come in time, and the last thing you want to do is nag a buyer about leaving it for you (not that you would, but that comes up sometimes). HTH.

Summer is winding down, and the list of yard sales is smaller in the paper every weekend. I'm heading out to see what I can find. Did awesome with my stock this past week, and still have stuff to list. I'm hoping prices will be dirt cheap since the season is ending! Hope anyone else doing the same has good luck today!

Funny you should mention this, Mrs. Snowgod!

Fall is still a big yard sale season in Georgia, I guess because we stay warm for so long. This weekend I had three to go to but the first one I went to WORE ME OUT! It was an entire (VERY upscale) subdivision, each household selling some INCREDIBLE things!! Very cheap and LOTS of NIB items! I cleaned up for a mere $35! I LOVE days like this!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

For awhile now I've been selling mostly dds outgrown clothes and other stuff. Well today I listed some cds and I was wondering, for those of you who've been selling cds, what's the best way to pack them? Thanks!

Hey, Robin!

I guess I wish I could scoot down your way for the weekend and go to your yard sales. Today had really slim pickings, and I only got to one. Oh, well. Had 2 listings end today with little battles at the last minute, and I was pleased with my ending prices. Tomorrow I have a bunch ending, many with no bids yet:eek: . We'll see.
