How do you take pictures of small WHITE figurine

Denise - I had to photograph some white shoes and was having the same problem. I switched to a lighter background and it came out great. Don't know if it will work but it may be worth a try.

Don't worry about asking too many questions - nobody hear bites!;)

2. Claudia, is there a spot on the selling page that lets you use the ebay shipping calculator. I'm thinking of adding it because of all the screw ups I'm doing with a flat rate.

When you create a new listing, it will be the #4 step, Payment & Shipping. The 2nd part says "Shipping Costs", click on the tab that states "Calculated Shipping Costs". Make sure that you have weighed your item WITH your shipping container to get an exact weight. Enter the weight, next step, enter the package size (ex. letter, package, large package), next step, enter the service (ex. priority, parcel post, media mail, etc.) next step, enter your zip and lastly enter your handling charges....remember that you do have "substantial listing/selling costs to cover" from ebay and later Paypal, if you choose to receive your payment that way. Remember, there is no reason to feel quilty covering your costs...it's just good business practice. It will also make it much easier to see your real profit.
The best reason for purchasing and using the postal scale is that your weight will be exact....the shipping calculator will allow you to enter an exact weight to the ounce. This way your shipping will be accurate and the handling will cover your expenses.

I have a shipping question too! I've had several magazine sell that I listed seperately. The same man bought several of them and I told him I'd combine shipping. Do I just send one invoice for all of the mags, send invoices seperately, but only include the total shipping $ on one of the invoices or what? If I only send him one invoice for all of them, can I change the invoice to the total price? Andl, if I only send one invoice, what happens to the status of the items as far as ebay is concerned, it will still show that send invoice button and the paid status will be wrong, won't it?

You can send one invoice with your total auction wins combined and your combined shipping costs. Just make sure that you include on your invoice each item number and each auction title. This will keep an accurate record for yourself.
As far as the status of your items...if your auction has a winning bidder, ebay will charge you for the fees associated with your listing. This is automatic. How you get your money is at your own discretion.

That seems easy enough! Thank you sooo much Claudia! My magazines I paid 10 cents a piece for are selling from $3.50-11.50! Having fun tonight!:bounce:

If that man is paying by paypal ask him to pay all at once for the combined total. It will save you on multiple fees.

Thanks! I'm still not getting this though. I have been using ebays invoices, but it doens't give me the option of changing the price. You know, the button that says "Send Invoice" it only does an amount for the one item. How else can I invoice to get a total of all purchases?

Okay, I figured it out through Paypal and sent the invoices. How much did that cost? It never did say.

"Personal Accounts are free, but cannot accept credit card payments. Premier and Business Accounts are charged either the Standard or Merchant rate based on volume. All Premier and Business Accounts start at the Standard Rate until they qualify for the Merchant Rate.

Fees can be offset by 1.5% when you spend money with your PayPal Debit Card as part of the PayPal Preferred Program.

Currency of Payment: U.S. Dollars
Merchant Rate 2.2% + $.30
Standard Rate 2.9% = $.30

I just copied and pasted this from the paypal site....You did send only one invoice right?????

Yes, I just sent one invoice, but I think this one, there are 4 I had to combine invoices, paid seperately.

It got a bit hectic there for a little while! All this invoicing, figuring postage, emailing, thank youing, etc. I think I broke a sweat!LOL:eek: I made $83.27 tonight though!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Just poking my head in to thank you, claudia, for coming back and hanging around! You are an awesome voice of reason in this loooooooong thread of important information!

 Hi, Birthday buddy!!

Wow, what a wild weekend! Ups and Downs galore!!!

I got my first neg. It was from a NARU'd buyer who bought a book from me on half.com. The complaint was: "Not stated at book club edition on description of book." (that was a C&P - the typo was his) Well, I list by UPC or ISBN code, and if the book club edition is substantially different, it typically shows up. I was really upset at first. So I immediately wrote a dignified response - "I apologize that you are dissatisfied. I wish that you had contacted me". Then I started checking into this guy more, and found that I could look at all the feedback he had left... turns out he left the exact same comment to about 6 or 8 other sellers, all on today's date. I guess he was rejected by eBay, but still allowed to post Half.com feedback? Doesn't seem quite right, but, oh well.

Good news is that the boat sold for more than double the opening bid, and I was happy with the price. Wierd news is that the winning bidder is a guy who works with a friend, who had been planning and promising to come look at this boat for over a month. Which is why we didn't list the boat until this late in the season... we were waiting for him to show up, and just couldn't wait any longer. So I am focusing on the fact that this was a great learning experience, and that I now have leverage and this person had better actually show up and make the purchase! I do kind of wish that he'd just done it a month ago and saved me the expense of listing. OK, focus - learning experience. Yeah, learning experience. Now I have a van to sell! ;)

NO QUESTIONS THIS TIME!!! Just stopping in to let everyone know that IMHO this is the greatest thread with the nicest people.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Glad you got the boat sold...that is weird about the buyer though...and a weird neg.

Sorry to hear about your neg - some people  but I'm so glad to hear about the boat! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

How did everyone else do yesterday?

I got my first neg.

The first one is always the hardest....as the saying goes, you can please some of the people some of the time.......and on ebay there is always that "disgruntled" person just waiting to buy from you!!!! Fortunately most people see through that kind of negative feedback and dismiss it.....but when it happens..OUCH!!!BIG OUCH!!!
Congrats on the boat.....and I am sure you will do as well with your van.

Thanks Robin.....I have really enjoyed reading all the posts and trying to help out. Everyone has been so nice.....it's been my pleasure to pass along some of my learning experiences.

While I haven't read all 155 pages of this thread, I did read enough of them to encourage listing some things.

I went to Walmart and bought one of the cheapest digital cameras they sell (less than $20) and photo'd some clothes and a pair of boots. So far no bids, but there are several days left for the auctions and I've had some inquiries about the boots.

I'm discouraged by the HP scanner I have listed. It's tough to sell just a scanner when shoppers are buying 3 in 1's. There were no bids with 3 hours remaining. I may have goofed by using an asterisk in my title and if it doesn't sell I will relist, fix the boo-boo and probably lower my opening bid.
