You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

This thread inspired me to put my maternity clothes on Ebay. I made a little over $100!!
We are saving for a Disney Cruise in September and this paid for one of my kids (they are both under 3)!! After this DH and both DSs are paid for, I just need to find the money for my way!!!

You guys are the best!

I have perused the Canada Post website quite a bit, but there is so much there that one cannot read everything. However, to the best of my knowledge, the only way to get delivery confirmation with a regular letter is to register it. This costs $11.00 + cost of mailing. There is also an added fee of $1.40 if you want a hard copy of the signature. All in all, it ends up being a couple dollars more expensive than the way I have been shipping the tickets.

I do know that a lot of people send to the U.S. using Small Packet, but this is only good up to a certain size and has no delivery confirmation. The only thing I can figure is that the item is insured for $100, so if it ends up getting lost or the person at the other ends "says" it never arrived, you can at least get your money back from the insurance.

If anyone else has any suggestions, please submit them.

You guys were right...this is addicting!!! We have alot of stuff to get rid of that is in demand right now on ebay, I can't describe the excitement of going to my ebay and seeing people are watching my auctions. Then I got my first bid and I jumped for joy!!! I find myself looking at everything in my house and evaluating how much i really need it:teeth: :hyper:

Ask your PO clerk if they have an international flat rate option. In the US we have Global Priority. There are 2 different size envelopes and they are flat rate. One is $5.00 ($4 to Canada) and $9.00 ($8.00 to Canada). The item has to weigh under 4 pounds and has to fit in the envelope. In the US, you can't insure it and you can't track it, but it goes in the same bag as Express mail. Only difference is, it gets normal delivery once it gets to it's destination PO.

I only use Global Priority or Global Express (for insured items). In the 3 years that I have been using these 2 options exclusively, I haven't had one mishap with an international package getting lost or damaged.

Good luck.

Well.....I don't think much of anything I have is in demand!!! But I did list 3 new American Girl outfits tonite. I am planning on getting a lot of stuff ready Monday and then either listing it on Tues for 5 or waiting until next Sunday for 7 day auctions. Course I say that every week..........but deadline is getting CLOSE and I need to come up with $500 more before I go. (Actually $2400, but if I get it under $2000 I won't feel guilty using the credit card!

I am in Canada and asked my postmaster if there were any flat rate prices to the U.S and she said no. She said not even within Canada....However we do have envelopes that are a flat price but she says they are only for documents. I wish one of the ladies I know were working so I could get a little more than the company party line. One interesting thing I did find out, she said if the shipping is more than $5 there is no GST.

My first auctions will be closing today so I figure I'll take them to the P.O and find out my options....I'm really nervous I've underestimated costs.

tmli,

That is what kept me from selling for so long - trying to figure out the shipping ahead of time! It's actually easier to figure out shipping to the US than it is to anywhere in Canada!

Just make sure that you're aware that postage for parcels is not just dependant on weight (which is what I thought), but volume as well. Whichever is bigger, that's the postage rate you pay. I made that mistake a week ago and ended up paying postage of 19.00 instead of the 11.00 I had quoted in my auction. I'll never make that mistake again!

Whatever you do, make your packages as small as you can because most of the time it's volume which kills you, not weight.

Good luck.

That's my concern because some of what I am selling is big...satellite dishes! There is no way to make it smaller (and still get good feedback:p ). We have started with just a few items this week...partly to get our feet wet and to figure out how the whole thing works. I expect to lose a little bit on shipping this week until I get it right, but I have planned for that. It's also important for me at thi spoint to just get some feedback. We have been registered for awhile but haven't done any selling before now.

Okay my first auction has closed---now what? Do I send the invoice through ebay? Do I also send buyer an email to get shipping address or do I wait until they contact me? I am so excited!!!!

Make contact - personal email or eBay/PayPal invoice. I have PayPal set to automatically send an invoice within an hour of the auction's end. I still go over there to make sure it has sent. I f I don't have a response in two days I send a personal note, in case the buyer's email rejects the PayPal (or eBay) invoice.

Ok, I sent an ebay invoice...in the meantime I get confirmation back from paypal that the item has been paid for. When he gets the email from ebay that he won the auction does that give him an option to pay from there? He added in shipping (too much) and paid the total.

I feel like I missed something...how could he have paid without an invoice? He paid $1 too much on shipping if I click on the refund link in the paypal transaction can I just refund $1?

I'm very pleased to have my first auction be paid so quickly I would just like a better understanding of the process.

That odd $1 could possibly be insurance, so make sure when you look at your paypal transaction that he didn't add that in there. I used to self-insure til i got hit with having to refund (i self insured under $50) something that broke, ouch. So now that $1.30 is well worth it and i use it to buy the insurance. Once you get going and get used to it, you'll have a little routine set up and it is easy to keep track of your sales.

tmli,

Yes, you can refund just $1. You can use the Send Money tab to do it. Just include a note letting the person know the shipping was less, and you are sending a refund. People always like that.

Also, people can checkout right on the listing page when the auction is finished. It takes them through the process, and it's a piece of cake. People can also let you know if they are sending a money order payment, if they choose that method of payment. You will receive an email stating they will be sending payment shortly. Not all bidders know how to use this, though, so don't count on it to happen all the time.

Hope this helps,

Liz

Okay that makes sense. So should I send an invoice right away or wait and see if they do the checkout thingy? Perhaps using the invoice the day after closing if I haven't heard from high bidder would be the way to go?

I was just checking out my auctions that I posted yesterday. Ebay shows one of them with one watcher but andale shows this same auction has having NO hits?? How is this possible? Or is this just another ebay/andale glitch?

GREAT Memorial Day weekend sales!! Gotta love those long-weekend listings..

I did awesome on stuff I never thought would sell!!!!!!!

I think its just a glitch.

I'm still trying to figure out how you can have negative watchers.

Yes, you can refund just $1. You can use the Send Money tab to do it.

Don't refund the dollar doing it this way if you have a business account with Paypal. Go to the persons name, hit details, and use the refund button. You can refund a partial amount. Then you won't be charged for the original payment you have refunded. And if the person did a chargeback, they would only get what would now be the amount owed them.

Every seller has their own system. People have to do what works for them.

Rather than refunding, I find it easier to put the dollar or 2 in the envelope or box with the item attached to my business card with a note that says,

"Refund for overpayment of shipping."

Good Morning All:

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good listing software. I am currently using Sparedollar and I am having nothing but trouble....Images not showing up, Auctions not launching at the right time and on and on. I used to be so happy with them, but the hassels are starting to outweigh the benefits.

I would like something that doesn't break my bank, but I also am interested in something that has more features than Turbo Lister.

Thanks in advance!!
Susan
