I've only used a reserve a couple of times on some of DH's band equipment. We didn't want to start out too high and have nobody even look at it, but he absolutely couldn't let those things go for less than a certain amount. I included the amount of the reserve in the auction because we didn't care that people knew what it was. (They all went higher as we expected they would anyway.) I don't entirely understand the reserve "thing" myself. Other than the reason we used it, what's the point?Originally posted by Donna
I have a "reserve" question. If someone emails you asking the reserve, do you generally tell them? I've only done a reserve once but got the question about how much is it.
There are times I've bid on something with a reserve and maybe I bid higher than the reserve, but unless someone else bids to drive up my bid, I can't possibly win it!?! Ebay starts with the starting bid, say $5, and even though I bid, say $25 (assume the reserve is $24), I don't win unless someone else bids up to $23 to push up my bid. How is that helpful to the seller? Am I misunderstanding?
Personally I would not go when I knew that this clerk was the only one there.Originally posted by Cindy B
I have a question regarding rude postal clerks.
My post office (small satellite office) has three clerks. One clerk is on from 830-9 am. Apparently this clerk is on light duty (can only lift 5 lbs or less, doctors note/restriction). She refuses to wait on me if I even have a box. This has been going on for one year.
What else would you suggest I do?

Well, I have been complaining every time she refuses me. She tells me to get back in line and wait for someone else. Either another person has to hurry up and open, or they have to leave a register and help her. Apparently every 30 days the medical restriction needs another doctors note, so every 31st day, she has a doctors note.. and can not help me.
I have called her supervisor, and the postmaster about this. What else would you suggest I do?

Another "please add a buy it now" question.
I know that usually when someone requests for you to add a buy it now option so they can purchase it right away, that it probably isn't a good idea to do so because there is a good chance the item is "hot" and will sell for much more than you thought.
But here is my situation. I have up for auction 2 packages of little girls underwear NEW IN PACKAGE ( I wouldn't sell used underwear!!). THese were packages I meant to return to the store but could never find the receipt. So I listed them on eBay hoping to get the $1.99 plus shipping that I listed them for. I wasn't sure how many people would buy underwear off of eBay!! I listed them Sunday night and today someone wants me to add a buy it now because she really wants the item but won't be in town when the auction ends and she is afraid of missing out on them. (her story, at least). Anyway, would you add a buy it now?? I don't even know what I would set it at. I can't imagine this is one of those "hot item" scenarios so I am kind of leaning towards adding the BIN.
What would you set the BIN at for 2 packages of 3 pairs each (so 6 pairs total) of Hanes her Way Girls Underwear in size 6??? I probably paid $4 to $5 per pack?
And, I guess the second question would be would you add the BIN??

I didn't know you weren't supposed to put it in the auction! Oops! As for bidding, even if I didn't bid high enough to hit the reserve, shouldn't it register my max bid and say "reserve not met?" I just bid last month on some clothes lots for DD (more than one) with a reserve and I was the only bidder on two of them. It put up the starting bid and that's it even though I had bid much higher than the starting bid. I couldn't even bid higher if I wanted to try hitting the reserve because it wouldn't go past the starting bid specified by the seller. I don't remember the exact amounts now, but say the starting bid was $5, I bid $35, but all that showed was the $5 and "reserve not met."Originally posted by DMRick
First of all..the rules say you can't list the reserve in yoru auction. If someone reported it, you could have had the auction pulled, or if it's happened before, been naru'd : (
When I've bid on something with a reserve. it has jumped right up to the reserve. So when you have bid on a reserve, that didn't happen? Maybe you didn't really hit the reserve. If the reserve is $15 and you bid $20..it should have gone right to the $15..and not gone past it, unless someone bid higher than the $15.
Sorry to seem so thick, but, is this right, then? Say the starting bid is $1, the reserve is $25. If I bid $24 only $1 will show up and "reserve has not been met"-- but if I bid $26 then $25 will show up?Originally posted by iNTeNSeBLue98
Reserve Price auction or not, proxy bidding takes your lowest bid first, starting with the Starting price the seller has stated. If you bid the reserve or higher the reserve price will go away - if no other bidders, you win.

I'm just not sure what else I can do. This is the only local PO.
If the reserve it not met, the item doesn't sell. This can do several things first off if the buyer will not sell the item for less then a certain amount (the reserve price) this will allow this, while allowing the seller to not have to start the item at that amount. Also I am guessing that if the item doesn't sell, the seller will then be able to look at the bids and this will show what the bids were. And of course there will be those bidders who will think of it as a game and keep uping their bid, maybei higher they normally would, just to see if they can hit the reserve.Originally posted by jcemom
Thanks for bearing with me, lol. I still don't understand how keeping the reserve amount "secret" is actually helpful to the seller, though. Anyone care to take a stab at explaining that one to me?? lol![]()
