You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

I have a "reserve" question. If someone emails you asking the reserve, do you generally tell them? I've only done a reserve once but got the question about how much is it.

I've only used a reserve a couple of times on some of DH's band equipment. We didn't want to start out too high and have nobody even look at it, but he absolutely couldn't let those things go for less than a certain amount. I included the amount of the reserve in the auction because we didn't care that people knew what it was. (They all went higher as we expected they would anyway.) I don't entirely understand the reserve "thing" myself. Other than the reason we used it, what's the point?

There are times I've bid on something with a reserve and maybe I bid higher than the reserve, but unless someone else bids to drive up my bid, I can't possibly win it!?! Ebay starts with the starting bid, say $5, and even though I bid, say $25 (assume the reserve is $24), I don't win unless someone else bids up to $23 to push up my bid. How is that helpful to the seller? Am I misunderstanding? It's very frustrating to me, to the point that I don't usually even bid on anything with a reserve anymore.

So, yes, I would tell them, but then maybe I need a better understanding of the reserve feature!

I was thinking it did up you in those situations - maybe not immediately but at the end of the auction.

I don't normally list my reserve, but always respond if someone inquires what it is.

I have a question regarding rude postal clerks.

My post office (small satellite office) has three clerks. One clerk is on from 830-9 am. Apparently this clerk is on light duty (can only lift 5 lbs or less, doctors note/restriction). She refuses to wait on me if I even have a box. This has been going on for one year.

Well, I have been complaining every time she refuses me. She tells me to get back in line and wait for someone else. Either another person has to hurry up and open, or they have to leave a register and help her. Apparently every 30 days the medical restriction needs another doctors note, so every 31st day, she has a doctors note.. and can not help me.

I have called her supervisor, and the postmaster about this. What else would you suggest I do?

First of all..the rules say you can't list the reserve in yoru auction. If someone reported it, you could have had the auction pulled, or if it's happened before, been naru'd : (

When I've bid on something with a reserve. it has jumped right up to the reserve. So when you have bid on a reserve, that didn't happen? Maybe you didn't really hit the reserve. If the reserve is $15 and you bid $20..it should have gone right to the $15..and not gone past it, unless someone bid higher than the $15.

Personally I would not go when I knew that this clerk was the only one there.

This is the only time that I can go, before my "real" job. Of course, workin in the school system, I will have more free time in about two weeks.

I'm just not sure what else I can do. This is the only local PO.

I am sorry. I am not flaming but I don't understand your problem??? Is she rude when she tells you to get back in line to wait for someone else? LIike does she snap at you or something?? Or do you think she is rude BECAUSE she can't wait on you?? If she has a medical note, I am not sure what else can be done? What's the worst that can happen? You have to stand in line for the next teller? It sounds like the other tellers are pretty understanding and will open up a new register or help her out??? I understand it may be a pain to have to wait a few more minutes but if it is due to medical reasons that is the way it is. I feel your pain though. I go to the post office a couple of times a week and no matter what time I go there is always a huge line (15 people at least). Plus they do passports there and they will take up one of the tellers if a passport needs to be done.

Another "please add a buy it now" question.

I know that usually when someone requests for you to add a buy it now option so they can purchase it right away, that it probably isn't a good idea to do so because there is a good chance the item is "hot" and will sell for much more than you thought.

But here is my situation. I have up for auction 2 packages of little girls underwear NEW IN PACKAGE ( I wouldn't sell used underwear!!). THese were packages I meant to return to the store but could never find the receipt. So I listed them on eBay hoping to get the $1.99 plus shipping that I listed them for. I wasn't sure how many people would buy underwear off of eBay!! I listed them Sunday night and today someone wants me to add a buy it now because she really wants the item but won't be in town when the auction ends and she is afraid of missing out on them. (her story, at least). Anyway, would you add a buy it now?? I don't even know what I would set it at. I can't imagine this is one of those "hot item" scenarios so I am kind of leaning towards adding the BIN.

What would you set the BIN at for 2 packages of 3 pairs each (so 6 pairs total) of Hanes her Way Girls Underwear in size 6??? I probably paid $4 to $5 per pack?

And, I guess the second question would be would you add the BIN??

Maggie

I've had this happen before and I've written them back and asked them what they would pay for them. Have them make the first offer and then negotiate from there.

Hi there! Remember me?

Just thought I'd pop in for a minute and see what's up..

I'm taking advantage of the gallery 1-cent sale and getting a bunch of auctions ready to go.. They'll all end on Monday night - Memorial Day..

I remembered from last year that I was hesitant to list over the Memorial Day weekend (as well as Labor Day weekend) but in looking back over my records, I see I did VERY well on both of those long weekends so I'm going to go ahead and let them rip!

Good luck to all who are listing!!;)

I just got about 10 auctions ready on Turbo Lister this morning to upload tonight for the 1cent gallery sale. These were things I was going to list on Thursday anyway, so I thought I would take advantage of the sale. I think they will do better with the gallery image.

Will the 1cent fee still count if I use Turbo Lister?? I assume so.

Cindy B............ I'm sorry I have no advice for you but wanted to tell you that I know how frustrating it can be when they are rude! Our very small post office has only 2 woman that work up front. One is super nice and fast! The other one is SLOW! and rude! When she sees me walk in she lets out a big sigh of exasparation! You can hear this clear over at the door where i am just entering. She also adds the rolling eyes too! Then as I said she is soooooo slow it takes her forever and even though she is slow with everyone i think she is even worse with me. I always get the feeling I am making her work too hard. I never take more than 4 items at a time. But she will often look at the person behind me and ask them what they need before she begins with me so they don't have to wait in line behind me. This is even if i just have 2 items! I find that annoying! I don't sell that much so some weeks i may be in twice a week and then some weeks not at all.

Yes, she is rude! She rolls her eyes, tries to take extra long on a three stamp purchase, etc... so she can't wait on me.

I didn't know you weren't supposed to put it in the auction! Oops! As for bidding, even if I didn't bid high enough to hit the reserve, shouldn't it register my max bid and say "reserve not met?" I just bid last month on some clothes lots for DD (more than one) with a reserve and I was the only bidder on two of them. It put up the starting bid and that's it even though I had bid much higher than the starting bid. I couldn't even bid higher if I wanted to try hitting the reserve because it wouldn't go past the starting bid specified by the seller. I don't remember the exact amounts now, but say the starting bid was $5, I bid $35, but all that showed was the $5 and "reserve not met."

What would be the reason for not wanting someone to know your reserve?

Reserve Price auction or not, proxy bidding takes your lowest bid first, starting with the Starting price the seller has stated. If you bid the reserve or higher the reserve price will go away - if no other bidders, you win.

Sorry to seem so thick, but, is this right, then? Say the starting bid is $1, the reserve is $25. If I bid $24 only $1 will show up and "reserve has not been met"-- but if I bid $26 then $25 will show up?

Correct! The only exception would be if there was another bidder who also had not met the reserve.

Hi Cindy! Im sorry to hear about the rude Retail Clerk. If you want to file a complaint, you can always call the national line at 1-800-ASK-USPS and you betcha that gets things moving ;)

Another option you might want to check out is Carrier Pickup.. If your package already has postage on it (i.e. printed from PayPal or from USPS Click n Ship), you can go onto the postal website and have your mail carrier pickup your packages while they are on their route! You just put the info in on how many packages etc, where you will leave them (by mailbox, or back porch, etc), and they will pick them up the next day! Here is the website:

http://www.usps.com/shipping/carrierpickup/welcome.htm

i hope this helps!

Thanks for bearing with me, lol. I still don't understand how keeping the reserve amount "secret" is actually helpful to the seller, though. Anyone care to take a stab at explaining that one to me?? lol

If the reserve it not met, the item doesn't sell. This can do several things first off if the buyer will not sell the item for less then a certain amount (the reserve price) this will allow this, while allowing the seller to not have to start the item at that amount. Also I am guessing that if the item doesn't sell, the seller will then be able to look at the bids and this will show what the bids were. And of course there will be those bidders who will think of it as a game and keep uping their bid, maybei higher they normally would, just to see if they can hit the reserve.
