Once you cash them is there any way they can "bounce" like a check. With checks I wait 10 days to send the item. Should I do the same for MOs? I always thought MOS were like cash and I could ship right away once I cashed the MO.

Yes MO's are like checks. If they have been stolen and it was reported it CAN bounce. Same thing with Cashier Checks. Yes you should also wait to see if MO come back before mailing items. For those who doult this just ask your banker. And one of the most stolen MO's is Postal MOs.

Hi everyone! It's been ages since I've checked into these threads, so if this has been covered, forgive me!! :)

Has anyone noticed a large decline in hits since the changes to the browse?

I have art friends that are saying that hits are down as much as 60%!! I am getting a huge lot together to sell, and don't want to waste the money if they don't fix it.

Also, how many of you use the feature plus? Since the change, in art at least, the regular listings are pages and pages behinded the featured items. This means items ending today could be as far back as page 16 or 17...not good for sales at all!

Just wondering what the "experts" ;) here think...

I'd really appreciate it!

have a great day!! :)

I don't take money orders nor cashier checks cause they could SO easily be stolen.

11 years in business and I have never had a bad money order. You are (IMO) more likely to have a charge back on Paypal. I personally think the more ways people can pay you, the more you sell. Of course I'd always rather have a money order..I could save some of the "mucha moola" I have paid out to Paypal. In the 5 years I have been selling on eBay, I have not seen one note from anyone saying they had a bad money order. I've seen some get lost in the mail and a stop payment down on them..but no one has ever said a buyer stung them with a bad money order. Of course if the buyer was from Nigeria, I wouldn't send my item no matter how they paid.

I desperately need some advice regarding an eBay transaction.

28 days ago I purchased three items from a seller with impeccable feedback. (zero negatives out of more than 1500 transactions)(I too have zero out of more than 350) I paid the very next day and was left + feedback by the seller.

After two weeks & no items I emailed the seller. I was asked to wait for a few days more to see if the items showed up. I did so. They didn't. I informed the seller, and he assured me that he mailed the items and offered his feedback as proof. He asked me what I thought we should do about it. I wrote back that his feedback was great, but that didn't mean anything to me since I had nothing to show for it. Please verify that the items were sent.

He wrote back that he felt insulted and that I should pay the additional postage to resend the items. He also let me know that if I was unhappy with this then I could file a complaint since the items were covered by Paypal protection. I told him this was unacceptable and that I would have to leave - feedback if I filed a complaint. He wrote back that he would resend the items and chalk it up to having to deal with people like me on occasion.

Now it is two days till the 30 day marker for the items' closings. I wrote and asked the seller when did he send the replacements. His response is that he gave them to his wife yesterday to mail. Please give them 3 to 4 days to arrive. That's beyond the 30 day safety net of eBay for filing a complaint.

What should I do? I do not want to leave a - FB for him if he is legit and the items have been sent, but after the troubles I've had with him I am not sure he has. He could be pushing for the 30 day mark. It was six days ago that he said he would resend them, but only yesterday that they supposedly got mailed. I have mentioned no names to protect him just in case he is legit.

What would you do in my case?

I would place it on Paypals chargeback for now..you can always cancel that if they come. You have 90 days to leave feedback...but I beleive 30 to file under the protection or a paypal chargeback. They will have to prove they shipped it.

I agree with DMRick--I would file for a Paypal chargeback NOW. I do not like this seller's responses to your emails one bit--does not sound trustworthy to me, despite his feedback. Just wait a couple of weeks to see if you recieve the items before you leave feedback.

---------------------------------

This sounds an awful lot like a buyer I dealt with at Christmastime.. The item never arrived and he was quite rude in his responses to my inquiries.. When I asked about delivery confirmation to show that he sent the item, he responded that he "didn't bother with it because it's no big deal - if the stuff doesn't show up he'll just re-send it".. He eventually had to ship again - took his sweet time - and then had the nerve to call ME "difficult"..

By any chance, were these "new" items you bought?

Thank you for the replies! This is hard for me. To date, I have never had to leave a negative or even a neutral feedback before. All of the other eBay sellers I have ever dealt with were great to work with. In fact I was unaware that feedbacks could be left 90 days after since I was always satisfied well within the first few weeks. I assumed it was 30 days because that is the limit for the display of "Items I have won."
I have never done a chargeback, but I guess I will do so if required. Can I safely wait until the 30th day as long as it is before the closing time of the original auction closing? My mail should come before that time and it will give this seller two days more for him to come through. Or would this be cutting it too close?

Troyfus -
Maybe there are liability issues which would prevent you from doing this, but if not, I hope you will post this person's ebay seller name so that others on this board have the option of whether or not they buy from him in the future. :(

Today is the day I must make a decision. The items did not arrive today, and it is day 30. If I begin a chargebac, and the items arrive tomorrow, can I cancel the process?

I would definitely start the chargeback immediately. You can always Paypal the $$ again if the items arrive.

Now I have a problem. My first auctions ended Tuesday. I have one buyer ($69 for a set of A Beka books) who was going to send payment via PayPal. I don't accept credit cards and that is how she wanted to pay at first. She is new to E-Bay also. She just sent me an E-Mail saying that she has tried everything she can to get money into her PayPal account. I'm not sure what she is trying to do, but then she said maybe the internet banking laws are different in Canada. It is stated in my auctions that I only ship within the U.S. What should I do? Should I just charge her more for shipping and accept a money order? I guess I should also charge her for insurance, right? Can someone please give me some advice? Thanks.

Help!

I recieved payment today for an auction that closed last night. My auction states that I ship to the US only, but the bidder is from Canada. How much more does it cost to ship to Canada?

thanks for your help and support, I LOVE this thread.

Sunny:confused:

I would go to the calculate shipping section of the USPS.com website, from there you can choose international shipping. You can calculate the shipping charges to Canada just like you would for the US.

Here's the latest on my case:
Today I filed a Buyer Protection claim through Paypal. It is day 30, and I could wait no longer. Within minutes I received an email from the seller. He was unsure if his wife had mailed the replacements today or not. TODAY!!!???!!! Three days ago he said she had mailed them on Monday. He was really upset that I had filed a claim and claimed he was being more than reasonable in not charging me extra for postage for the replacements he had not yet sent. He gave me my options. I replied and gave him his options. Accept the charge back and keep his items or I would cancel the claim when the items arrived if they had already been mailed by his wife.
His reply: He sent a refund through Paypal that says it will take 7 - 8 business days to clear.
Guess what... I'm not cancelling my claim until I hear from Paypal and those funds have cleared. This is the best course of action, right?
If I cancel my claim, could he still cancel his refund and leave me high and dry?

Thank you everyone for all the advice about selling on Ebay. I just started selling new and gently used little girl clothes and so far have sold 3 "lots" I sure have not Ebayed my way to WDW, but I put a good dent into the food budget. I am really just getting my feet wet since most of the really beautiful dresses I have are for fall/Christmas. It kills me to part with something that is either NWT or like-new for so much less than I paid but I guess it is better than having the items just sitting in a closet and the totals do add up. I think instead of heading to the boutique this Christmas I will check Ebay first!
I do have a question though. How do all of you estimate shipping? I have tried using my bathroom scale by first standing on it but I always seem to be off. Even just a pound can add $1.50 to the cost. So far I have sold higher priced items but I am more concerned if I sell something cheaper in the future. Do I really need to buy a scale and if so what kind works?

If you are going to be doing ebay you really should invest in a shipping scale. As you stated a simple miscalulation by a pound or two can really add up.

The other option is to package everything up and take it to the PO and weight it before you list it. Our has a "self - service" scale that allows you to weigh and compute postage.

I can't imagine trying to charge more postage for an itme that did not arrive. It is sellers responsibility to get the package there timley and safe. His problem if he chooses not to use Delivery confirmation, which is free on USPS site - how lazy can you be.

You definitely did the right thing. If you sell I would block him as a buyer he may try to mess with your feedback by buying not paying and leaving negatives.

On MO's you can always insist on Postal Money Orders, they can be checked right at PO when they arrive. Just pick a slow time. They will cash them also if they have enough in their draw. No more worry on stolen checks.

I have been selling for 3 years and never had one come back. I do not accept personnel checks at all.
