You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

I received this email today from ebay.

The following listing:

The listing in question was for Toy Story 1 & 2 on DVD. I bidded on it (not the seller). The auction ended at least one week ago and I didn't even win the auction so why am I getting the email? Who is the VeRO in this case? Disney? I'm very confused.

DiznEeyore:

I'm still pretty new to ebay (the selling part anyway), and I have had a couple of people ask me to add BIN to my auctions. When I got the first request, I came here for advice, and learned that often, someone wants a BIN added because s/he knows the auction will end at a higher price than the price being offered. In one case that didn't happen (bummer), but in the other case, wow!
:bounce:

I know this doesn't help answer your question, but it's just a thought for future auctions. I do understand what you're going through, though, because I've got a couple of people I'm waiting to hear from as well. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so sometimes it takes me a little longer to get paid!

Good luck!

A HA!

My "buyer" returned my email.
We did not place bids on your auction, we assume it was the person who has gained access to our account. Again I am sorry for the trouble, we hope to get this matter resolved with ebay asap.

Looks like I have a relist. Thanks DMRick, for helping me ask the right questions. Do I need to file NPB or should I just relist the item?

Okay- after a seriously busy week! (recert for my lifeguard instruction...) I've gotten back into the throws of ebaying!...in my 1st week I sold close to $250.00 I know I wont hit that this week, as I did have 1 large item that sold for $78.00...

I screwed up 1 shipping charge- ended up eating close to $10.00 and have so far 3 out of 22 auctions that havent paid...I've sent my last "nice email" and tonight if I dont hear anything will head to the non-paying winner crap...and relist those 3 items. I may just offer then to the next highest bidder, as each of them had multiple bids.

This week, my goal is to cover the cost of at least 2 of our hotels on our road trip portion of our disney trip. Last week, I covered Sea World for the 4 of us...

Getting closer. I figure I will have my last set of auctions end April 4th, as that will give me 11 days to get payment and ship everything before I leave...Okay I gotta go list some more junk...oops I mean TREASURES!!

This must be "let's not pay the sellers" week or something. Both of my payments i'm waiting for have pretty good feedback so i am surprised that i'm going on the 4th day of waiting for payments.
As far as the theft identity some people mentioned. Do you think it's because maybe those ebayers inadvertently replied to one of those spam mails that look like ebay needs your info? Maybe that's how their personal info. got found out.

Do I need to file NPB or should I just relist the item?

You want to file it, to get your end of auction fees back, and also, so if you sell it again this time when you relist, you'll only pay once for listing fees. Since they are naru's, you won't have to wait..it will automatically give you the end of auction fees.

I am reporting back on something I mentioned in the earlier post. If you recall, I had asked about receiving emails which looked as though they came from the 'ask the seller a question' box and gave a response about shipping. I had never asked any of these questions.

I sent one to spoof@ebay and they responded that it not only did it not come from them, but it had a keystroke virus within it. So personal data from Ebay is not only being stolen through those other emails which ask you to verify your information, but also from these such emails.

Stay away!

I'm setting up my first auction using Turbo Lister, and I'm doing the buyer calculated shipping rates. I'm trying to put 50 cents as my handling fee, but for some reason Turbo Lister won't take the "0."!! I just tried it as a regular auction (not using Turbo Lister) and it did do fractions of a dollar. Is it something with Turbo Lister? I don't want to add a dollar, but if I can't put anything less...

How much do people usually put for a Handling cost? I have never put in a handling cost, only shipping.

Now I just have to go through all those boxes in my garage!! We just moved and everything is still in boxes. I hope I do well with this venture!!

Thanks for all the tips for ebaying.

OK...I've listed my first 5 items....Hopefully I'll start selling something...

Had to share this...thought it was "interesting".

Last week I had a little boys bathing suit end with no bids. I had it listed at $1 with 3.85 shipping. It had a zillion and one views.

I relisted it this week, and I lowered it to $0.99 but I raised the shipping to $4.00. It already has 3 bids and is up close to $4.00 and doesn't end until tomorrow.

Strange how that happens...guess it looked like a bargain at .99 and then everyone jumped on the bandwagon!

Go figure!

marcyinPA - I had the same exact thing happen! I listed a book for $5.99 - didn't sell. I dropped the price and relisted it at $3.99 and it sold for $17.50!! I think lower prices attract people's attention to your auction and then perhaps they get drawn into "bidding wars" ? That's my theory anyway:)

Why did you raise the s/h?

DisneyChrista,
I raised the S & H because I felt like I had to make up my money somewhere. Not that it was a huge difference, but if the suit only sold for .99, and I charged 3.85 shipping, then I'd lose money on fees and whatnot. I'd lose money on fees anyway, if it sold for $1 w/ $4 s & h.... but I'd lose less money. I guess because it was a re-list, I was afraid that maybe it wasn't a marketable item...but given that it now has 4 bids, I guess I was wrong!

I don't know, just a marketing thing I guess!

I usually always add a handling fee to all of my auctions, but recently I've been playing around with selling w/ handling fees vs. selling w/o...just to get a feel if people have a hard time with the handling fee issue. I've done a lot of reading on this thread about handling fees vs. none.

I've noticed that it really doesn't change my profit at all if I add a handling fee. Things get bid on regardless.

I'm confused on the handling fee. When I list my items I use the shipping calculator but I always add $1 in handling fees. To my knowledge the bidder/buyer doesn't see those fees separately. The handling fee is added in to the calculated shipping fee that they see. Between the cost of envelopes, printing costs, running the stuff to the po and addl delivery confirmation costs that I always add but don't charge separately, I think $1 is a bargain. Am I wrong?

They'll know what your handling fee is either when they see the postage you paid to mail to them, or they may be like me..I figure out the postage, if it's not on the box.

Talking about handling fees, is like talking about when to leave feedback. It's personal and up to each person. For myself, I judge who's item I'll bid on, when I see the shipping. If I think they start at a low fee, and try to make it up in their shipping (and of course saving themselves eBay fees as well), I pass. I'm not dumb, and I know when someone charges $6.00 to ship something that costs them $1.50 (with the cost of the envelope), they are trying to get people to bid on what appears to be a leeser price than the next guys (a lot of people never look at the shipping, which, of course is their own fault), they are still making a profit, and they aren't going to have to pay fees on it. They are trying to get you to bid on something that appears to be less than the next guys, who may only be charging what it costs (postage and supplies) to ship. I feel like they are trying to "trick" me. I'm not talking about the person selling a 10 # fragile item charging for packing supplies...those are usually legit. But even there, it's up to the bidders to take note and decide if they should bid or not. If the shipping/handling is shown in the auction, bidders should take that into consideration. I would never give a neg for too much shipping, if I was too dumb to agree to pay it. I consider that my own fault.

I charge a handling fee, only on the items I sell all the time (and that fee is usually about .50..sometimes it works out to more, sometimes I take a small hit in the cost, depending on where I'm shipping. I put all my overpays in a jar, and I use that for my self insuring as well. I like to charge a flat fee, so I picked the middle of the country..sometimes it works out good, a few times it doesn't. The overpays pay for the underpays, to the tune of that .50. I don't charge on the items I am trying to get rid of around the house. I don't have to charge a shipping fee for those items, since I get the packing materials free for those items. We do our own packing, and I consider my cost for that, to be what I got for the item.

So to sum it all up, if you have to pay for your shipping supplies (although I hope you are looking around for inexpensive supplies), gas money to the post office, someone to pack, then you should charge for them..do I think you should be expected to get all of your Paypal and eBay fees as well, in the handling? I don't, but that's the part that's personal, and I'll make my judgement call, when I decide to bid or not to bid on your items : ) I get a lot of comments on my great packing, and judging by my return buyers, my s/h is working out just right for me.

When I add a handling fee, it's small. Anywhere between .50 and 1.00. What I DON'T do is charge $4.00 for shipping and then ship it out Parcel Post. I charge $4.00 for shipping and ship it out Priority. I have a scale and weigh the item first before I put down a flat rate. I always make sure that I charge enough to cover Priority Mail. My feedback consistantly compliments me on my fast shipping!

One of my first purchases on eBay really opened my eyes. I bought three cassette tapes from a seller. The shipping was a flat 6.75. I knew what the shipping was, but didn't give it much thought. Like I said, I was new. I figured she'd send them out Priority. WRONG. 8 days later, I got them parcel post, in a crappy box, and postage was a little more than $1. What could I do? I couldn't complain to her because I knew from the start what the shipping was. I left her positive feedback, but I didn't get all flowery and nice like I usually am with feedback. It did teach me a lesson, both to be careful as a buyer, and how to treat buyers as a seller.

When I do my handling fees, I am never making more than .50 to 1.00 more than the charge. This covers packaging, supplies, labels, tape, time to the p.o., etc.

I have never had a buyer complain about my shipping and handling or my service. I only had one person who was window shopping email me to question my shipping rates. I figure if you don't like what you see, then move on. Like I said, I have made plenty of extra money since January so I know I'm doing something right! ;)

So, with handling fees and Turbo Lister - how does one make the handling less than a dollar? Turbo Lister is only letting me put whole dollar amounts in the calculated shipping box. Do I have to upload the auctions then change all of them?

I had something interesting happen today on one of my listings and need advice. I have an antique item I picked up inexpensively (knew it was special though), listed it for $50 to start with (a antique friend since then said I should have started bids at $125. I have one bid at the $50 presently.
Anyway, today someone emailed me and asked if I'd consider ending my auction (there are still a few days left) and selling the item to her for $275.
Is this "legal" on ebay? And if so, should I do it, or consider that maybe this item is worth even more and that the bids may get higher than that as it gets closed to ending? Or take the good deal (believe it or not, I paid $2 for the item at a yard sale) just in case. I haven't responded to their email yet.

holey cow! what is this item so i know what to look for at the yard and flea markets! good deal!
