That's what I'm starting to do - look at what's selling, see what it's going for. This kreel was the first item I've listed that wasn't outgrown kid's clothing (summer stuff seems to sell well right now). Not that I'm making tons of $ on it, but I've made about $250 on kid's clothing since the end of Feb., and I have 20 or so auctions that still haven't ended. My original goal was to make enough for something extra at Disney (like Cirque, which we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise, since there are 5 of us).
I've found that when selling these items, unless it's popular for some unknown, bizarre reason (like a cotton summer outfit my daughter outgrew that has 10 bids on it and 2 days left!), it usually goes for my original asking price at the last minute. Which is fine by me, because I could never make that much $ on it in a yard sale. I try to price reasonably, but at a good enough price so I make some $ (my original way of pricing was approx. ebay fees including est. listing and closing fees - maybe $2.00, + $1 for each item in the bunch being sold, so it started anywhere from $2.50 - $6.00 to start).
I have a friend at work with "every outfit my daughter ever wore, she's 11 years old, the only grandchild; some still have tags on them, Osh Kosh, etc." She told me she was pricing them for yard sales this summer, I encouraged her to ebay them, she said it was "too much work." I told her to put a fair price on them, and I'd buy them from her and sell them myself! It's like a gold mine, in my opinion. She's told me she is going to do this!!
Boy, am I addicted, but it's much better to sell than buy if I am!
