The One With A Triple Mountain Whammy
December 14, 2011
After grinning with ghosts, singing with dolls, bouncing with Pooh, and stealing some of Tink's pixie dust, we decided to visit Mickey's PhilharMagic! YAY!
This is a must-do for me on every trip! The line wasnt too bad, either! I think we only had to wait for one full show before we could go into the theater.
We took a picture of us with our pixie dust, but you can really only see it in Kristens hair!
PhilarMagic has the most genius posters! I wanted to get my picture in front of Ariels Coral Group poster, but the line wasnt extending over there for some reason! So I settled for just taking a picture of some of the other ones.
We moved up into the holding room and we ended up right next to the doors. Amanda is a music major so she had to have her picture with the music note.
Yeah, I called it a music note. I'm a major failure and I FORGOT what that thing was called. My middle school chorus teacher would be so disappointed. Let's go with treble clef, okay? Amanda posed with the treble clef. Look how happy!
As usual, I LOVED PhilharMagic! Donald is my favorite! Plus, the show goes through scenes from pretty much all of my favorite movies. Win-win, that one!
Afterwards, we noticed that Snow White was back up and running, and the wait was really short. We hopped in line and I immediately realized that this would be the last time I rode it!
We got stopped in front of the evil witch a few times, and at the end we got stopped in front of the Prince waking Snow White with a kiss. We actually didnt mind because normally the ride moves so fast you dont have a lot of time to look at everything! It was a nice last ride. Peace out, Snow White's Scary Adventures. It's been real.
When we got off Snow White FOR THE LAST TIME (I want you to say that like Evil Emperor Zurg says to Buzz Lightyear, please), Jenelle had to leave to go meet up with her boyfriend. The rest of us weren't finished yet! NOPE! We were just getting warmed up!!!
There were officially about 90 minutes left before the Christmas party was going to begin. 90 minutes left to play at Magic Kingdom. Hmmm, what would we do?
I'll tell you what we did.
We headed off in search of some WHAMMY-NESS.
That's right yall. We were going to attempt the TRIPLE. MOUNTAIN. WHAMMY.
If you have ever watched the older version of Stacey's Must-Do Disney on you tube, or if you were lucky enough to see it when it was still playing on Resort TV, you know what the triple mountain whammy is!
If you don't, then allow me to explain. You know those three BIG attractions at the Magic Kingdom, whose names all happen to include the word 'mountain'? Basically, you have to ride all of those in a row. That can be a pretty hard thing to do outside of Extra Magic Hours. So, could we DO IT? HMMM... let's find out!
To start things off, we headed WEST! Okay, I'm gonna be honest, I'm very directionally challenged. So, I'm PRETTY sure we were headed west. Whatever, we were going to Frontierland, that's all you need to know.
GO WEST, YOUNG MAN! LAND HO! (Uhh... nevermind with that one.)
First up: BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN RAILROAD!
The wait time was about 20 minutes which was perfect! I tried to take a picture of the castle from the QUEUE but it came out too dark. Ugh, my camera sometimes. BOO.
I feel like the line for Big Thunder is so rustic. The wood, the circulation fans, everything. It all fits with the western theme. Disney puts so much thought into everything, which puts it head and shoulders above the other theme parks out there.
Amanda was excited to ride!
Okay, we were all excited! OF COURSE!
Since we had an uneven number of people at this point, one of us would have to ride alone. I volunteered to ride alone because when nobody is next to you, it makes the ride a lot scarier. Scarier = more fun. Since nobody is next to you, you just whip around all over the place! It's great.
We all really enjoyed that ride! We were looking for the hidden Mickeys but I don't think we found any! At that point it was starting to get darker outside. We still had a reasonable amount of time left though!
When you're trying to achieve triple mountain whammy, and you've just completed your first mountain mission on Big Thunder, what do you think comes next?
Second: SPLASH MOUNTAIN!
OH YES. Splash Mountain. I am beginning to think that this is my favorite ride at Disney! I am just IN LOVE with the theming and everything about it!
At our local amusement park we have a log flume ride. Do you want to know what it's called? I'll tell you. It's called Log Flume. I WISH I was kidding. You literally sit in a log, flow through some water, and go down two hills. That's IT. I don't even think the big hill on the log flume is half as tall as the Splash one. The sad thing is that I used to LOVE that ride when I was little. Disney has completely spoiled me, I tell ya!
We had to take this picture before we rode! We attempted this like four times.
Amanda didn't ride this one. She's just not a fan of big drops, and on Splash Mountain, that's pretty much the point! Since she wasn't riding, I asked her to try to video us when we were going down the big drop! She did, but since it was getting darker, she couldn't tell which log was us! She took about 12 videos and there was no way of knowing which one was us! Oh well! It was nice that she tried for us!
Meanwhile, on our way through the queue, we noticed that Woody and Jessie were out meeting people! AHH! I have never met ANY of the Toy Story characters and I so want to! We wanted to meet them on our way out!
Oh, did I mention that the line for Splash Mountain was FIVE MINUTES LONG? And do you know why it was FIVE MINUTES? Well, besides the fact that it takes about that long to get through the entire line, I really have no idea! I mean sure, it was evening and it was December, but wasn't chilly at ALL! Listen, I was not complaining though! If we hadn't been on a mission, I would have wanted to ride it five more times or until they kicked me out of Magic Kingdom for not having a wristband for the Christmas party. Anyways, we had SO much fun on that ride! I love it so much.
We were pretending we were scared, and I think the lady in front of us in the log actually thought we were. Not even a little bit, yall.
Sally kept asking, "IS THIS THE LAUGHING PLACE?" I think she missed the fact that the Laughing Place song was playing but... oh well! Haha.
Ahh, such a beautiful ride. I love it, I love it, I love it. When we came out, Woody and Jessie were gone, and there was a considerable line forming for the Seven Dwarves! Darn, so rootin' tootin' meet and greet for us. Oh well, maybe next time! Plus, we weren't finished with our mission! So far, two out of three mountains were completed!
To complete our challenge, we had to book it across the park to Tomorrowland!
Third and Final: SPACE MOUNTAIN.
We cut across Main Street in front of the castle to get to Tomorrowland. The hub was CRAZY! Everyone was waiting for the castle lighting and the Christmas party! Basically, the rest of the park was empty because of this.
When we were crossing the bridge, the music started up for the castle lighting show. We couldn't stop though! We had a mission to complete!
We booked it over to Space Mountain and got in line! It was about 25 minutes, so basically it was perfect timing! It was only the five of us in our little spaceship and I was in the very back, which is the best! I think it goes the fastest.
Strangely enough, I didn't remember Space Mountain that well from the last time I had ridden! For instance, those two upside down astronaut guys? I didn't remember them at all! They're all like, oh, we're too cool for gravity, we're space men. Those guys.
Needless to say, the ride was a BLAST, har har har. I was doing this weird combination of screaming/whooping, and laughing. I'm sure Amanda, who was right in front of me, really enjoyed it.
After we got off, our TRIPLE MOUNTAIN WHAMMY MISSION was complete!
WE WIN!!!!!! Success.
At that point, it was about 6:50. The party was starting in 10 minutes. So naturally, we got in line for another ride with exactly a 10 minute wait. Duh.
Our last ride of the night was Astro Orbiter! It was a new one for all of us! For those of you who may not know, you have to ride an elevator up to get to the actual ride. Very unusual! If you're not a fan of elevators or heights, I'd suggest you skip this one!
We had a perfect view of the castle from up there! It is so breathtaking all lit up for Christmas. SO PERFECT.
The actual ride was a lot of fun! You don't realize how fast it's going until it starts descending at the end. I was being pushed to the side of the little spaceship! WHAT A RUSH.
After that, it was REALLY time to go... after posing for some pictures...
...and stopping at a snack cart for water. We were SO incredibly thirsty after that Triple Mountain Whammy! Never mind that the party was in full swing at this point and we were obviously not wearing wristbands. We were fully prepared with an alibi. "I'm SORRY Magic Kingdom police man, we were simply parched. And we DO have tickets for another party..." Ya know, the usual.
After all that, we finally headed for the exit to the bus stop. Main Street was BOOKIN', but we were enjoying the decorations and music and atmosphere of the party... a little sneak peek, if you will.
Finally we made it to our bus stop. But wait, we weren't at the bus stop for All Star Sports.
Come on, it was only a little after 7:00! We weren't going to pack it in that early! Where exactly were we heading? You'll find out soon enough! And BELIEVE ME, you're NOT gonna wanna miss this!
