"You Guys Are Cast Members... Right?" - A December 2011 TR

The One With A Triple Mountain Whammy

December 14, 2011

After grinning with ghosts, singing with dolls, bouncing with Pooh, and stealing some of Tink's pixie dust, we decided to visit Mickey's PhilharMagic! YAY!

SDC10699.jpg

This is a must-do for me on every trip! The line wasn’t too bad, either! I think we only had to wait for one full show before we could go into the theater.
We took a picture of us with our pixie dust, but you can really only see it in Kristen’s hair!

PhilarMagic has the most genius posters! I wanted to get my picture in front of Ariel’s Coral Group poster, but the line wasn’t extending over there for some reason! So I settled for just taking a picture of some of the other ones.

SDC11221.jpg

We moved up into the holding room and we ended up right next to the doors. Amanda is a music major so she had to have her picture with the music note.
Yeah, I called it a music note. I'm a major failure and I FORGOT what that thing was called. My middle school chorus teacher would be so disappointed. Let's go with treble clef, okay? Amanda posed with the treble clef. Look how happy!

As usual, I LOVED PhilharMagic! Donald is my favorite! Plus, the show goes through scenes from pretty much all of my favorite movies. Win-win, that one!

Afterwards, we noticed that Snow White was back up and running, and the wait was really short. We hopped in line and I immediately realized that this would be the last time I rode it!

SDC11224.jpg

We got stopped in front of the evil witch a few times, and at the end we got stopped in front of the Prince waking Snow White with a kiss. We actually didn’t mind because normally the ride moves so fast you don’t have a lot of time to look at everything! It was a nice last ride. Peace out, Snow White's Scary Adventures. It's been real.

When we got off Snow White FOR THE LAST TIME (I want you to say that like Evil Emperor Zurg says to Buzz Lightyear, please), Jenelle had to leave to go meet up with her boyfriend. The rest of us weren't finished yet! NOPE! We were just getting warmed up!!!

There were officially about 90 minutes left before the Christmas party was going to begin. 90 minutes left to play at Magic Kingdom. Hmmm, what would we do?

I'll tell you what we did.

We headed off in search of some WHAMMY-NESS.

That's right yall. We were going to attempt the TRIPLE. MOUNTAIN. WHAMMY.

If you have ever watched the older version of Stacey's Must-Do Disney on you tube, or if you were lucky enough to see it when it was still playing on Resort TV, you know what the triple mountain whammy is!

If you don't, then allow me to explain. You know those three BIG attractions at the Magic Kingdom, whose names all happen to include the word 'mountain'? Basically, you have to ride all of those in a row. That can be a pretty hard thing to do outside of Extra Magic Hours. So, could we DO IT? HMMM... let's find out!

To start things off, we headed WEST! Okay, I'm gonna be honest, I'm very directionally challenged. So, I'm PRETTY sure we were headed west. Whatever, we were going to Frontierland, that's all you need to know.

GO WEST, YOUNG MAN! LAND HO! (Uhh... nevermind with that one.)

First up: BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN RAILROAD!

The wait time was about 20 minutes which was perfect! I tried to take a picture of the castle from the QUEUE but it came out too dark. Ugh, my camera sometimes. BOO.

I feel like the line for Big Thunder is so rustic. The wood, the circulation fans, everything. It all fits with the western theme. Disney puts so much thought into everything, which puts it head and shoulders above the other theme parks out there.

Amanda was excited to ride!

406610_10151077678420177_820575176_22144560_1094475337_n.jpg

Okay, we were all excited! OF COURSE!

Since we had an uneven number of people at this point, one of us would have to ride alone. I volunteered to ride alone because when nobody is next to you, it makes the ride a lot scarier. Scarier = more fun. Since nobody is next to you, you just whip around all over the place! It's great.

We all really enjoyed that ride! We were looking for the hidden Mickeys but I don't think we found any! At that point it was starting to get darker outside. We still had a reasonable amount of time left though!

When you're trying to achieve triple mountain whammy, and you've just completed your first mountain mission on Big Thunder, what do you think comes next?

Second: SPLASH MOUNTAIN!

OH YES. Splash Mountain. I am beginning to think that this is my favorite ride at Disney! I am just IN LOVE with the theming and everything about it!

At our local amusement park we have a log flume ride. Do you want to know what it's called? I'll tell you. It's called Log Flume. I WISH I was kidding. You literally sit in a log, flow through some water, and go down two hills. That's IT. I don't even think the big hill on the log flume is half as tall as the Splash one. The sad thing is that I used to LOVE that ride when I was little. Disney has completely spoiled me, I tell ya!

We had to take this picture before we rode! We attempted this like four times.

398132_10151077678585177_820575176_22144561_1886568592_n-1.jpg

Amanda didn't ride this one. She's just not a fan of big drops, and on Splash Mountain, that's pretty much the point! Since she wasn't riding, I asked her to try to video us when we were going down the big drop! She did, but since it was getting darker, she couldn't tell which log was us! She took about 12 videos and there was no way of knowing which one was us! Oh well! It was nice that she tried for us!

SDC12389.jpg

Meanwhile, on our way through the queue, we noticed that Woody and Jessie were out meeting people! AHH! I have never met ANY of the Toy Story characters and I so want to! We wanted to meet them on our way out!

Oh, did I mention that the line for Splash Mountain was FIVE MINUTES LONG? And do you know why it was FIVE MINUTES? Well, besides the fact that it takes about that long to get through the entire line, I really have no idea! I mean sure, it was evening and it was December, but wasn't chilly at ALL! Listen, I was not complaining though! If we hadn't been on a mission, I would have wanted to ride it five more times or until they kicked me out of Magic Kingdom for not having a wristband for the Christmas party. Anyways, we had SO much fun on that ride! I love it so much.

We were pretending we were scared, and I think the lady in front of us in the log actually thought we were. Not even a little bit, yall.

Sally kept asking, "IS THIS THE LAUGHING PLACE?" I think she missed the fact that the Laughing Place song was playing but... oh well! Haha.

SDC10701.jpg

Ahh, such a beautiful ride. I love it, I love it, I love it. When we came out, Woody and Jessie were gone, and there was a considerable line forming for the Seven Dwarves! Darn, so rootin' tootin' meet and greet for us. Oh well, maybe next time! Plus, we weren't finished with our mission! So far, two out of three mountains were completed!

To complete our challenge, we had to book it across the park to Tomorrowland!

Third and Final: SPACE MOUNTAIN.

We cut across Main Street in front of the castle to get to Tomorrowland. The hub was CRAZY! Everyone was waiting for the castle lighting and the Christmas party! Basically, the rest of the park was empty because of this.

When we were crossing the bridge, the music started up for the castle lighting show. We couldn't stop though! We had a mission to complete!

We booked it over to Space Mountain and got in line! It was about 25 minutes, so basically it was perfect timing! It was only the five of us in our little spaceship and I was in the very back, which is the best! I think it goes the fastest.

Strangely enough, I didn't remember Space Mountain that well from the last time I had ridden! For instance, those two upside down astronaut guys? I didn't remember them at all! They're all like, oh, we're too cool for gravity, we're space men. Those guys.

Needless to say, the ride was a BLAST, har har har. I was doing this weird combination of screaming/whooping, and laughing. I'm sure Amanda, who was right in front of me, really enjoyed it.

After we got off, our TRIPLE MOUNTAIN WHAMMY MISSION was complete!

WE WIN!!!!!! Success.

At that point, it was about 6:50. The party was starting in 10 minutes. So naturally, we got in line for another ride with exactly a 10 minute wait. Duh.

Our last ride of the night was Astro Orbiter! It was a new one for all of us! For those of you who may not know, you have to ride an elevator up to get to the actual ride. Very unusual! If you're not a fan of elevators or heights, I'd suggest you skip this one!

We had a perfect view of the castle from up there! It is so breathtaking all lit up for Christmas. SO PERFECT.

The actual ride was a lot of fun! You don't realize how fast it's going until it starts descending at the end. I was being pushed to the side of the little spaceship! WHAT A RUSH.

After that, it was REALLY time to go... after posing for some pictures...

393754_10151077680325177_820575176_22144581_492774988_n.jpg

...and stopping at a snack cart for water. We were SO incredibly thirsty after that Triple Mountain Whammy! Never mind that the party was in full swing at this point and we were obviously not wearing wristbands. We were fully prepared with an alibi. "I'm SORRY Magic Kingdom police man, we were simply parched. And we DO have tickets for another party..." Ya know, the usual.

381075_10151077680480177_820575176_22144583_299409868_n.jpg

After all that, we finally headed for the exit to the bus stop. Main Street was BOOKIN', but we were enjoying the decorations and music and atmosphere of the party... a little sneak peek, if you will.

Finally we made it to our bus stop. But wait, we weren't at the bus stop for All Star Sports.

Come on, it was only a little after 7:00! We weren't going to pack it in that early! Where exactly were we heading? You'll find out soon enough! And BELIEVE ME, you're NOT gonna wanna miss this!

oh wow, I didn't know you could get pixie dusted, and I didn't know tigger was behind the honey! 2 more things to try next time, huh!

Some fun facts for ya! Hahah yes, you should definitely do both of those things next time! Little things like that really add to the experience for sure. :goodvibes Also, you should know that Tigger isn't the only one that hides out behind the honey!

Gah! we went by the honey pretty quickly. I was rushing along my bigger two because the little guy wanted to run somewhere else and there was no one in line so we didn't have time to stop! or we could have stopped but we didn't...

Aww, well that's understandable. Definitely do it next time if you have the chance! Your little one would probably really enjoy it!

Last summer, my youngest nephew dragged me at gunpoint (or the 6-year-old's equivalent of gunpoint, which is making a really sad face and looking like he was about to cry) on to Winnie the Pooh, but then I got so wrapped up in playing with the honey wall that he's the one who had to drag me past it in the queue. Heh.

Love the TR so far, and I can't wait to read the next installment.

I'm glad you got to complete the triple mountain whammy before the party started! Isn't Astro Orbiter at night the best? I love seeing all nighttime lights in the park below me and the stars and moon above me. :lovestruc

We drove to Disney World recently, and it was the same thing- I was the only person in the car who was excited about driving under the sign. I'm trying to train Carter and Landon to say "Hurray, it's Disney!!" with me, but so far, I got nothing but unimpressed silence. :rotfl:

Yayyyyy!!!! The triple mountain whammy!!! :woohoo: Soooo much fun!! Good job for doing it all in 90 minutes!!! :thumbsup2 I love how close you cut it to the Christmas party!! Gotta soak as much as possible up! I also love Mickey's Philharmagic! :3dglasses It's just so sweet and entertaining!! How sad for the last Snow White ride! :guilty: Still, there's a totally awesome huge sweet amazing and FANTASTIC expansion happening!!!!!!!!! ;) I can't wait to see where you guys are going next!!

:thumbsup2 to your successful Triple Mountain Whammy!

Sounds like y'all were really having a great time!

I haven't been on Snow White's ride in years....that darn witch scared me as a little girl & I still don't like going to see her!

Can't wait to hear where y'all went next! popcorn::

Congratulations! You got the music symbol correct. It is in fact a treble or G clef. You middle school chorus teacher can be proud! :cool1:

Hooray for the triple mountain whammy - and with perfect timing! :dance3:

It's nice that you got a minute or two of party atmosphere as you made your way out of the park. :santa:

Resort hopping coming up. I like it. :thumbsup2

Yay, triple mountain whammy! I miss that version of Stacey. :sad1: I mean, this one is good, but that old one was so much fun!

I love how they decorate Space mountain for the parties, it's such a simple idea, but it's genius at the same time!

Oooh, where are you guys off to next? Magic hours somewhere? Resort hopping?

I can't believe you had never done Pooh before! It is such a cute ride. I also like small world. The song is only annoying if you get stuck on it for a good half hour in Disneyland...:rolleyes1:laughing: (yes, this did happen to me).

Gotta love Stacy and the triple mountain whammy. I am so bummed I won't be able to complete it in April because BTMRR is going to be closed for refurbishment. :sad2: That's awesome you got to do all 3 before the party started.

Sounds like a great time at the Magic Kingdom!

Ah Mickey's Philharmagic :cloud9: I wish they sold candles that had the smells from that ride. Omg genius moment! They should sell candles of every smell from Disney World! The water, the cinnamon buns, the cookies, the popcorn the list just goes on!

I agree the posters in the q are adorable! I wish they sold them! I would so have the Wheezy one in my bedroom!

:lmao: To you telling Snow White "peace out. it's been real"

Yay for triple mountain whammy!!!

BTMRR is ahmahzing but I do like Splash the most out of all of the mountains! Will the new Dwarf mine ride count as a mountain? :confused3 I assume most caverns that have mines in them are found inside of a mountain :confused3

Yay for completing the whammy!

Can't wait to see where you're headed! My guess is the Epcot resort area!

Wow, you guys sure got a lot accomplished. It's always a success when you can do the triple mountain whammy!

Good thing you had your alibi ready in case you were asked any questions when you were trying to get something to drink. Always have an alibi on hand. ;)

Wow, I was sure behind there. I think that's what happens when the Dis gets all slow on me.

Anyways, fun first day so far! Always a success in my book if you can complete the triple mountain whammy! And when you have only gotten there in the afternoon, too? Score!

I love Small World. It really is the happiest cruise that ever sailed. I find myself doing the little head tilt back and forth all the time when singing the song with my daughter. It's like, I have to do the head motion. I can't help it.

Can't wait to see where you head to next!

Aw! Hahah it is a lot of fun, isn't it? I don't blame you for that haha.

Thank you! I'm glad you're here and I appreciate your comments!

I know! I was so excited. Astro Orbiter was a lot of fun at night! Especially having that lit up castle right in view, SO beautiful!

Hahahaha! I bet you they'll learn the significance of the Disney sign soon enough! :rotfl:

YAY!!! Hahaha thank you! I know right? We figured, might as well stay until they make us go! Yeah, it was kinda sad riding Snow White for the last time. But I think I'm gonna love all the new stuff WAY more. I AM SO EXCITED IT"S NOT EVEN FUNNY!!!! AH!!! Well... you'll find out where we were going soon! ;)

Congrats on the triple whammy, I am impressed!

Hahaha, thank you! :rotfl: We were really glad we could do it!

Oh gosh, I do NOT blame you for that! When I was little they re-released the movie into theaters, and my mom took me to see it (Disney lover from the start, obviously), and the witch scared me so much that we had to leave for a few minutes. I got over it though. Ya know, I'm tough. :rotfl: But really, the ride version of the evil witch is more scary because she turns around and spooks you! UGH!

Hahah well, you'll find out soon! ;)

Resort hopping coming up. I like it. :thumbsup2

OH YEAH! :cool1:

Definitely! It was so beautiful with that huge tree and the lights and the music and the CASTLE. We were reluctant to leave, but we knew we were coming back!

Yay, triple mountain whammy! I miss that version of Stacey. :sad1: I mean, this one is good, but that old one was so much fun!

I agree! I'm just glad I can see it on youtube or I'd be seriously missing out!

It really is great! It made us feel festive... even though we weren't really supposed to be there! :rotfl:

Hmm... I'm not sure. Hahah you'll find out soon! ;)

Oh my gosh, I know! I was so ashamed of myself haha, but really! I'm just glad I finally did it! Oh gosh... I mean once I got stuck for like... 8 minutes? But nothing like a half hour! That just doesn't sound fun. :lmao:

Definitely! AH that's so sad! :( Makes me wonder what actually will be OPEN in Magic Kingdom! Goodness, there is so much construction going on right now, it's insane!

It was SO great. Definitely an awesome way to start the trip! :goodvibes

It's great, isn't it?! Oh my gosh that WAS a genius moment. I'm not even kidding you should suggest that to Disney. You'd be rich.

First of all, thank you for calling it a Q. Because that's what it is. :lmao: And I agree! I would get the Ariel one for sure. Who am I kidding, I'm probably buy all of them and pretend my room was the PhilharMagic Q.

Hahaha, well ya know. It has been real. :rotfl:

I agree, I think I like Splash the best too! Everything about it is just great. That's a good point! I wonder if Stacey will have to change it to the QUADRUPLE MOUNTAIN WHAMMY! Ohhhhh boy.

Hmm... well that's a very interesting guess. (Shh, don't tell anyone.) ;)

Wow, you guys sure got a lot accomplished. It's always a success when you can do the triple mountain whammy!

Good thing you had your alibi ready in case you were asked any questions when you were trying to get something to drink. Always have an alibi on hand. ;)

I know! I was so proud of us. I was pretty surprised though, because I thought it would be a lot busier because of the party. But, no complaints here! Hahaha.

Oh, definitely. I mean we were all wearing t-shirts so it was quite clear we were not wearing any party wristbands. They could have kicked us off property right then and there. :rotfl:

Wow, I was sure behind there. I think that's what happens when the Dis gets all slow on me.

Hahah it's totally fine. I know, it has been pretty slow lately! Ugh. Work with me here, Dis.

Definitely! We were so excited we could do all 3! If Splash had been any longer than five minutes, we probably wouldn't have been able to. So THANK YOU people that were at Magic Kingdom that night, I appreciate ya.

Small world is awesome! I love it too. Hahahha! You can't not do the head motion. It comes with the territory. Like peanut butter and jelly. Small world and head tilts. :cool2:

YAY! Hahah you'll find out soon! It's a good one, I'm excited. :goodvibes
