This is a coaster I thought I'd never ride. I saw it being built when we went in October 2020. But we went to Florida because California was stupidly locked up tight last year. I didn't think I'd ever return. Scratch that! We spilt a one week stay with WDW (getting 3 nights) and Cabana Bay (4 nights). Universal was EPIC. But that's a different post.

The first thing we hit was Velocicoaster. We got there about 8:45, so about 15 minutes before the non-resort guests hit. The line said 60 minutes. We'd commit...and only waited 25 minutes. In fact, every time we rode it, the line was 25-30 minutes, even when it said it was 45-70 minutes long. If the line started right at the entry gate, and there were 3 "raptors in the paddock", it was half an hour or less.

It's hard to explain why it's so awesome. It just is. I thought that nothing could be better than Hagrid's. NOTHING! Wrong. So wrong! We ended up riding it 5 times during the trip, including the last ride we went on before we headed for the airport. The acceleration is beyond belief. The twist over the water that everyone has seen on video is thrilling. And the way the tall loop shoots you up and then down is amazing. The pre-show queue is fun with Pratt.

After doing the new Avatar ride at Animal Kingdom, I thought that would be the one we would talk about the whole way home. But it was definitely Velocicoaster.

You NEED to ride this!

It really is a great ride. I think even people who don't love coasters should try it -it's just so darn fun!!

Ok so was just reading about the ride and I am a little terrified. I liked Hulk a lot but thought I was going to die on rip ride rocket. how does it compare to those?

It`s soooooo much smoother than RRR......I have to admit to not doing that ride any longer. The front is the best for me, but even now it`s too bumpy for me.

Velcocicoaster is the smoothest ride you`ll ever do.......you will come out of your seat, completely more than a few times, but you feel completely safe as the harnesses are among the best we`ve ever seen. The speed is amazing and it is just fun from start to finish.....

Our favourite ride at UOR ever.....and we completely adored Duelling Dragons when it was going, but this blows every other ride out of the park!!!

thats helpful. the harness kind of freaked me out for RRR. I like the Hulk type better ....

Ha! I felt the same way and told my daughter I was skipping. After watching and listening to people exit the ride (almost all laughing and smiling) I broke down and rode it and I LOVED IT. During our four days we rode it seven times and the Hulk felt like a baby roller coaster after Velocicoaster.
You are so right~~Velocicoaster is the best ever! :thumbsup2

My teens thought this was the best roller coaster but it gave me a bad headache. I want to give it a second chance next time I am there. So far the best roller coaster for me is Cheeta Hunt Tampa BG because it was so thrilling and I had no side effects.

If you don't like the feeling of falling out of a coaster, you probably wanna avoid it. Pretty sure I spent more time hanging by the lap bar than sitting in the seat. But it's a pretty amazing ride. I just giggled like a school girl the whole time. Even hanging upside down with my legs locked under the seat. lol

Pretty sure it's my top coaster at this point.

Yes, it’s not an over the shoulder classic restraint. It is a waist bar, but attached to a piece that sits behind you…..it’s kind of weird as you do pull it down when you sit in the seat as if it’s going to sit on your shoulder but it doesn’t.

However, we still felt completely secure every single time……even upside down completely in airtime……..

I think not having the over-shoulder restraint with my biggest fear and as Schumigirl girl said completely secure and very smooth. Now with that being said: I still have not let go of the bar in all 7 rides and that is my goal for 2022!:cool1:

lol.......I know what you mean. It did take me a couple of rides before I completely let go, and it does feel different somehow. Although I do admit to grabbing it again at the last upside down part.......instinct takes over I think for me ::yes:: .......so my goal for next trip is to not hold on that last part.....

But, one of the most secure feeling restraints ever.

That is an awesome goal and I hope you achieve it! My daughter talked me into not holding the bar during our most recent trip and oh my… what an amazing experience! I love this coaster, and hands up gives it a whole other experience… in a great way. Just stay loose and let the coaster and air do it’s thing. This way it adds a whole other sense.

For me, I don’t feel like VC is that much smoother than Hulk, but my DH pointed out that without having anything over the shoulder there’s a lot less to bang your head on, which is definitely true. I love the majority of the ride and feel very safe with the restraint but I don’t like the barrel roll over the water. That freaks me out for some reason.

I tried to let go of the restraint on the last 2 rides and was able to for certain points but felt too thrown around and off balance at others.

My kids say that closing their eyes made it amazing too. My son tried that after going on a few times and loved it. I can’t vouch for it though. 😃

The most fun I had on it was riding with a stranger who hadn’t been on it yet. He was whooping and laughing and swearing. It was infectious.

As a self admitted ride junkie, that is how I approach all rides. I find that holding my hands up all the time, while leaning into the curves, keeps me relaxed better. My wife usually has a death grip and then complains about getting rattled too much.

Have to agree with others that this is now my favorite ride at UO.

Ok. so I am glad i have this thread to help me feel comfortable to try to ride it this weekend. This is a trip for my daughter who loves roller coasters (DH does not like and does not care for HP so I have done this trip twice with my DD)... I can do it., I can do it. I can do it...

You got this!! Your daughter will be so proud! So excited for you

Am i correct in thinking that EE is a good strategy. if we get here by 745 can we be off of ride by 845? we are there this weekend...
