YC Concierge

I'm thinking about upgrading to concierge at YC if it is still available. I have already done all my AR's & wishes cruise but still need to arrange to have some surprises in the room when we arrive so they could take care of that. I'm thinking of doing it more for the ease of the children (ds12,dd9 & ds8) being able to walk down the hall for a drink or snack and since there is 5 of us the extra space would be nice. Anyone know the view from the lounge balcony? Some pictures look like its of the front entrance.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're correct. The view from the lounge balcony is of the front entrance. Not much to look at.

The lounge is nice though. It's just a little on the small side. They open up the doors at 7am for breakfast, but at 6:30 they did set up a carafe of coffee out in the hallway for us early risers.

The pre-planning staff there is excellent. We were guests there this past December and I sent down a small Christmas tree along with some gifts that I had purchased. The staff had everything set up in the room when we arrived. They also did some park shopping for me and those gifts were all arranged nicely under the tree. First rate service, I couldn't have wished for anything better.

Hi Tammi-

I just finished reading your trip report! So detailed! This part of your report has stuck out in my mind:

Hi Angel, I definitely didn't take your concierge question the wrong way. I was pretty shocked myself at being thrown out of the lounge, but they did give us a 5 minute warning. If it weren't for the fact that the pre-planners were so downright amazing, I would have probably been questioning myself. They more than made up for the lack of warm fuzzies that we felt at the lounge. The only other Disney resort that we stayed in for concierge was the Grand Floridian and I guess I expected it to compare. Why wouldn't all Disney concierges be the same? I'm going to cross the YC and BC off my list for future trips, but I think that I will give the Boardwalk a try next time. We do tend to spend a lot of time at the resort and even though the food doesn't make you break even for the additional concierge cost, it is a big part for us. That and the view. Neither of which were very good.

I'm also thinking of just waiting until check-in & see if its available. My vacation won't be "ruined" if it isn't. We have an AP rate of $221 for GV right now.

Just my opinion and I know many others that really enjoy it there. I'm just a lounge snob I guess :teeth: . I usually get up pretty early and like having a place to hang out, read my guide books or whatever. I guess it was just that first impression of having to sit on the chair outside the lounge while they did the morning set up. I couldn't see any reason for it either, because there are main doors which lead to the seating area and a back service door that enters into the food area. It's not like someone sitting on the sofa is going to bother what their doing :confused3 . Plus, I'm sure it was our timing, but whenever we got back from the parks, it seemed like they were getting ready to close up the lounge. We got our snacks, but had to bring them back to the bedroom to eat.

You mentioned something about the extra space? Did you mean the room or the lounge? The room sizes are the same. I think that the BC has slightly larger concierge rooms and the deluxe concierge at BW fits 5 and are very nice from what I've heard.

If you want to have some surprises waiting, you can go through Disney mail order. They're a park shopping service and will try and find what you're looking for. They can leave it at the YC gift shop for you to pick up when you arrive. Feralpeg (another DIS'er, just click on her name for the website) does some nice gift baskets too. They would probably be left at the reservation desk for you. If you really wanted something delivered to the room, www.disneyflorist.com is on-site and will deliver. You can talk to them about a custom basket.

Thanks for all the advice Tammi. I was thinking of the extra space in terms of us having the lounge available. I don't remember when the lounge closes during the day & have been unsuccessful when I tried a search. Do you remember?

If memory serves me correct, this is what it looked like:

7am-10:30am: lounge doors open for breakfast serving
10:30-11am: closed for cleaning and setup
11am-4pm: lounge doors open for afternoon snacks
4pm-5pm: closed for cleaning and setup
5pm-7pm: lounge doors open for evening serving
7pm-8pm: closed for cleaning and setup
8pm-10pm: lounge doors open for mini-pastry desserts and cordials
10pm-7am: closed for the night

I'm sure it was all in the timing for us. As I said, I get up early, so had to get my coffee and go down to the main lobby to sit and enjoy it. We'd typically get back for a rest or change to swim at about 4pm. And yes, a few times I was asked to leave the lounge at 10pm so they could clean up. It's okay, I've been thrown out of nicer places than that :teeth: .
