Yara Shahidi is the new Tinkerbell

Sorry, I didn't know there was a thread about this already. I think the news on the confirmed remakes might be new though.

I'm not familiar with her as an actress but she's cute and has kind of a fairy look going on.

I don't know who she is but she seems like she will look cool in a Tink outfit. I didn't realize another Peter Pan film was coming up.

Not happy. for me Tinker will always be the white, blond bombshell that inspired Walt. I am all for inclusion etc..... honestly at this point I have a feeling disney executive are thinking its their responsibility to make up for systemic racism.

and no I am not racist or closed minded.. but once disney starts changing the classics I get upset. In this sense I am a traditionlist.. why mess with perfection. I have zero desire to see this.

She is a beautiful girl and should do very well as Tink.

The track record for these live action remakes has not been strong though, I hope they do this one well.

The problem with that is black people were not represented in Walt's classics. His classics were not perfection to everyone. I think a reboot is a great time to change that.

Should we also then rewrite all classics to be more encompansing? Do we need a replace Elizabeth Bennett with a black actress in the next version because blacks were not represented? At some point it just gets ridiculous.. I find the comment for some " not perfection" a bit insulting.. I loved for Cosby Show.. in fact a perfect show.. though I am white. I would never say that show was not perfection

Just have a conversation with a good friend, told her about this thread, she is not on DIS... she is black "tokenism" she call it and said It's kinda like telling us we're not good enough to have our own characters.

I wish the actress well. will most likely see it, but honestly its not the same and I guess that is what disney is going for..

Ok so they weren't represented in Walt's classics. Walt is dead, his classics are a part of history like it or not. It's the year 2020.
How about Disney comes up with new ideas and characters that represent more races. Instead they throw the SJW's a token.

But imagine being a black child in the days when all of these classics came out. Imagine going to the theater (the ones you were allowed to enter) and only seeing white characters. Only white princesses. And white princes. Only white heroes. Only white moms and dads.

Walt's classics were not perfection for everyone. I don't know how that is offensive. It's factual.

And they aren't recreating Peter Pan in 2020 merely to feature a black Tinkerbell. They are doing yet another version (yawn), and they just happened to have chosen a black person to play Tink.

Racebending Elizabeth Bennett sounds pretty awesome to me. Doing an all-Black version of Pride and Prejudice also sounds pretty awesome. *shrug*

How about she's a fictional character that comes from a fictional land and can pretty much be represented however someone chooses to represent her? I mean Peter Pan was played by an older woman in the 1960s movie and that one is fantastic. If you want to stick to the classics and ignore everything else, feel free to do so. I think this is just very low on the how "things to get really upset over" scale, especially since I think the original Tinkerbell is a whiny brat and I can't stand her :rotfl: I don't care what color she is, I just hope she's portrayed with a better personality.

There is always the danger of tokenism, and sometimes I do feel the same way, like they give minorities the "hand me downs." That said, sometimes it can work when done thoughtfully. Each case is different.

Yeah, Tink is the worst. She just flat-out tries to murder Wendy a few times. Jealous much?
