XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

I hope they sing it fast tonight at the closing ceremonies. I did not like the way they sang it at the opening it was way to slow.

Totally agree. That girl was a great singer, but the tempo was horrible. I'm really looking forward to the show tonight!

Canada has won most gold in the Winter Olympics then any other country not just the host nation. We broke a record.

::yes:: Congratulations!!!

Finally watched the DVR'd final hockey game. Congrats to Canada on a spectacular gold! What a fantastic game from two stellar teams. I'm sad the games are ending tonight (but happy I can finally get some sleep!!).

Looking forward to London in two years!

::yes:: Agree one hundred percent. One thing that doesn't seem to have made the news is that Canada opened a section of the Olympic Village as an area for Gay athletes (and anyone who cared to enter). An amazing nation with more class than most. ::yes::

Congratulations Canada! It's been a wonderful Olympics. Thank you! :goodvibes

They did feature in on CTV. It is called Pride House. They did an interview with Mark Tewksbury, a gold medal swimmer in Canada, and he discussed how impossible it is for an athlete to be open about their sexuality. It was a touching interview.

I know it is so sad that it is over. I'll miss watching them as well. Great games. :thumbsup2

I'm normally always depressed when the Games come to an end, but this year has felt worse for some reason. I guess it might've been because I watched so much more than I ever have before (because of working from home), but geez...I'm really sad tonight.

When the Red Sox are playing play off games on the West Coast and the Olympics are really the only times I stay up this late! I have truly enjoyed the games this year! But yes, it definitely will be nice to get to bed early for the first time in 2 weeks. Oh, yeah, that may have to wait until tomorrow night after the closing ceremonies tonight!

That is great to know. That they showed it there, I mean. We didn't see it here. I read about it on Watermark.

Yep. Sports and sexuality is a complex thing. As I said previously, I have a gay (man) friend who plays hockey.

I just thought it was incredibly indicative of the pure class present in the Canadian society, that they would be the first to open a Gay specific area. ::yes::

Just watching Ohno being interviewed by Bob Costas.. Class act!

Ive always been an Olympics junkie and Im sad to see these end. Although Im a fan of both summer and winter, Ive always preferred Winter. They just seem more intimate to me.

Congratulations to Canada for doing an amazing job hosting these past 2 weeks of stories and sports. And congrats to the athletes who got to live their dreams and gave us 2 weeks of great viewing!

Canada has been a wonderful Olympic host and these Games have been fantastic for North America. Canada walks away with more gold medals than any other prior host nation and the US walks away with the most medals of any Winter Games competitor.

On hospitality alone these Games will be tough to beat.

The games were definitely a win-win :cloud9:for the US & Canada!!! So sad it's over, really enjoyed these past 2 weeks.
Can't wait to watch tonight, should be fun - then -
London, baby!
:rotfl2:

Arriving late - but.. Earlier today I caught the Ice Dancing portion and the "controversy" over the "ropes" on the one pairs outfits were mentioned.. After watching the other pairs perform, I definitely don't think it was fair for the one couple to utilize the ropes to make difficult/tricky moves..

Can anyone explain why this was allowed - since it sounded like there had already been a controversy over this - and will it be allowed in the future?

That's all I got to see today, but it was beautiful! The figure skating is my favorite..:goodvibes

Congratulations Canada on hockey gold and the most gold in a winter olympics! :dance3::cool1: Congrats to the US for most total medals!

What a great olympics all around too. Congratulations to all athletes from all countries!! :grouphug:

I thought she was going to sing a "bleeding gums Murphy" type national anthem (from the Simpsons) and take 3 hours to complete it..... ;)

I too am very sad to see the Olympics come to a close. It seems like they just started! :sad2:

Already looking forward to London...I would LOVE to be able to go to those Games.

I'm also kind of bummed about the hockey game outcome but atleast they made Canada work for it. All of Team USA kicked butt at these Olympics. :cheer2:

I do have to say, we are not a hockey family at all but it was kind of funny listening to my dad and sister yell at the TV. LOL.

My husband is HUGE Wings fan. We were at Game 7 of the cup last year.....why did it have to be the 23 year old kid any other player getting the goal would have been fine. I am going to have to hear about Crosby into perpetuity--I should start a Crosby swear jar and use all the money for Disney.

I know!!! Crosby has been a big thorn in the side of the Sabres, too. He scored on Miller in a shoot out to win the first Winter Classic, too.

If the USA had to lose to anybody I'm glad it was Canada! It was one of the best games I've seen (besides when the USA beat Canada earlier in the week)!

Great jobs by both teams! They played with class! Hey, Miller got MVP for the tournament!

Couldn't ask for more from our two nations!

Congrats to Canada! Hugs to TEAM USA! We still love you and thanks for a great tournament!

Miller really wanted to win! I'm glad the crowd cheered so loud for him when he got his medal. Classy thing for the crowd to do!!!:goodvibes As a Sabres fan tho, I hope he doesn't get "down" on himself about this. There's still the Stanley Cup to go after!!!:) And we were watching Lindy Ruff after the game too. He is the Sabres coach & was an assistant for team Canada. You could read his lips: told Miller he had nothing to be ashamed of!!!

I really do think we have a pretty national anthem. :goodvibes

I LOVE "Oh Canada"!!! makes me want to be Canadian!!

What a great way to start the closing ceremonies. I felt so bad that her arm didn't come up and she didn't get to light it.

Well maybe that is a teaser because CTV just said they would be back for the closing ceremony. I'm sure they can't keep that thing lit for long inside.

I thought that was a fantastic way of dealing with it!!

How AWESOME that Ryan Miller stayed to take part in the closing ceremonies! I can remember past years when no hockey players would be there (mainly because the NHL starts up again tomorrow). Good for him!

So glad to see Ryan Miller smiling! He was so down earlier but he did an amazing job! Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose! I'm glad it didn't end in a shoot out. That would've been worse! It was just an amazing game!
