There might be an elevator to try. To be honest thought what would you expect with a 2nd floor? I have stayed there and could have told you there is basically 2 flights of stairs. That is very common. I would ask if there is an elevator though since some buildings do have them.

***I edited away the rest of my response. I feel the previous poster to me was very rude. I will no longer be asking questions, and I do thank everyone who has ever kindly, nicely and respectively helped me. Our vacation is now a wash out. We will lose the money, and cancel the trip. Nothing else we can do. :(***FYI, in the condos we rented in Daytona, the 1st floor was recessed...under the ground so to speak. So, the 2nd floor really was only two or three steps. I had no idea or wouldn't have chosen to rent since obviously my vacation is now ruined. The only other comment I have is that I did ASK the owner prior to renting how many steps there were. 2 flights is different than 5 steps.

Relax, the previous poster wasn't rude, you are just fit to be tied right now because you are upset about the stairs. I kind of agree with that poster though. I've never seen a second floor that could be reached in 5 steps. If stairs were going to be that huge an issue that it could ruin your entire vacation I would definitely have requested a first floor condo, or find another place if none were available.

Well, I have seen condo units where the entrance is 1/2 way up the building, like a split level home. The first level is built under ground somewhat. So, I would say if the owner said 5 steps, it's not unbelieveable that it could be 5 or 6. A full set of steps is 12-14.

I would be angry, too, as my DH has health issues.

Well, I feel for the OP of this thread. It does sound like the owner deceived her. It's a shame. She should have asked more questions here on the DIS before commiting to the condo. We could have told her how the condo's were arranged at Windsor Palms. I've stayed there on the third floor in a building with no elevators. I needed the exercise so it wasn't that big a deal to me. I now check thoroughly when renting to get either a building with an elevator or a ground floor if it is that important to me.

I know you are heartbroken.... I'm so sorry that you were mislead. Question asked by you and answered by the owner - you were clearly mislead.

If you had "assumed" and not specifically asked, that would be different. I feel for you... Here's some pixie dust... Hopefully something good will come your way.... pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

I really know nothing about condo rentals, but have you called the owner and explained your husband's situation and asked for your money back or at least most of it? Can you call someone in management and report him? If he doesn't refund your money you could tell him you will be posting his name on the Disboards to warn others not to rent from him?
I feel so bad for you and your family. I hope something works out. :worried:

Whatever. If I had a spouse with MS or was recommending it to an 87 year old person, I would make sure there were no stairs at all or at least an elevator to eliminate all climbing.

I am so sorry for you!!!

Can you cancel and get your money back.

If he refuses - tell him you will report him to the BBB. He lied to you. That is not right.

I am so sorry you are going through this...

where did you find this listing - can you report his lieing to you to that management company...I would definitely try. :scratchin

do you tell him about your husband medical condition...

My heart goes out to you - in fact, I registered with the site just so that I could post this suggestion --

Did you pay with a credit card? As a last resort, call your credit card company and dispute the charge.

Hope it works out for you!

I totally agree. You do not get a 2nd floor condo knowing these health conditions exsist. That is just plain stupid. And you COULD have asked here as well. We would have told you the TRUTH since a ton of us have stayed in these condos. And at Windsor Palms a lot of the buildings have elevators.

I did not out right call you stupid. I just said I thought not requesting a first floor condo was stupid. There is a difference. I am not trying to be rude but I am not the only one that thinks this is odd. Others have as well. I am sorry to see you go but to be honest, if you would have asked us we would have told you the truth. I just stayed there in March so I know what it's like to stay there. We could have helped you but you chose not to seek our help.

As a matter of fact my aunt has MS so I do know about it. And I am not sure why you are being so rude to me when I was not rude or immature to you. You are taking this way out of control. I am sorry your DH has MS but you should have known a 2nd floor condo would have a least 1 flight of stairs to get to it. It is your own fault for ASSUMING otherwise.

I would also try to get the funds reversed if paid by check as well document everything from this point on even e-mail and phone conversations.

This is a terrible thing renters go through (happened to us once at the beach).Inform rentee that things need to be taken care of or steps will be taken .If you mailed the payment this could be Mail fraud as misrepresention. Not easy to prove but they might not want to deal with it either.

OK, first...you ARE being rather rude to me. To attack a VICTIM is rude. Another poster wrote exactly WHY it was thinkable for there to be only 5 steps...have you never seen the condos that are like that? The 1st floor is actually a couple of steps down, teh 2nd floor is a couple of steps up, etc...when the man told me it was 5 steps, that is what I expected to find. 5 steps. That is misinformation on HIS part, not mine. Other than ASKING the owner, what else could I have done?
I am done with this. It doesn't matter and to be honest, I can't figure out why I am being attacked. I will just leave now and not look back so I don't bug you anymore, k? It is not my intent to anger you because I am "stupid".

She didn't "assume" anything--she called and asked and was given incorrect information that she relied on. Don't play "blame the victim".
