I was at K-Marts' today ( I can already hear "I told you so") and as we were coming out I saw a black lady run towards a white lady with 2 boys about 4 & 8 and grandma. The family was trying to get to their car, but the black lady kept after them trying to hit the mom. Grandma was trying tp protect her daughter but the other lady was very persistent. They got to their car but mom couldn't get in because her hair was being pulled. I went over and asked if there was a problem and did they need the plice called. They either didn't hear me or ignored me. Another car pulled up and I asked her if she had a cell phone and to call 911. The boys tried to help their mom, so I held them back. The younger one was crying. The black lady finally left and went into the store. I gave the family my name and address for the police who had not shown up after 20 minutes. My daughter did not want me to get involved because she was afraid I was going to get hurt. My concern was for the kids. How far would you go if you witnessed this?

I would have done the same thing. And I would have stayed there until the police arrived. Hopefully they arrested the lady who went back into the store.

Regarding your title:
WWYD regarding witnessing a racial fight?
How do you know this was a racial fight and not just a fight, fight?

As to your question, I would have called the police, but I probably would not have physically involved myself. If DH had been there he would have physically involved himself.

In that situation, I'd probably also have called the police and would have followed the black lady around the store (discreetly) until the police showed up.

After hearing the "n" word at least a dozen times it was safe to say it was racial. The black lady went into K-marts telling her friend how she beat up that white trash women in the parking lot. The manager came out to see what was going on and my dd went and told him what had happened ( he is a friend of hers). I don't know if K-MArts monitored her. The police have not contacted me yet.

I would not get involved physically, but I would call 911 on my cell phone. Then I would wait at a discreet distance, making sure I observed what happened, so I could give an accurate account to the police as a witness.

I probably would have done the same thing. I would have called the police and kept the kids away from the fight. If my kids were with me, I would probably have put them in my car first and then called the police.

who used the n word, did the white woman possibly instigate the event by calling the other woman that name..???

not enough info here to tell who was right and who was wrong...

I would have called the police in a heartbeat. And if my phone had a camera on it, I would have snapped some pictures on it, to show what took place in the parking lot.

We were out with friends one afternoon and witnessed a hit and run. Both of the other girls DH and I were with, had cell phone cameras. Both had just gotten off of calls, so the phones were out and handy. At first we thought the guy was going to stay, and we just dialed 911. When we saw that he was going to take off, the one got a couple of picture of who exactly was driving and the other got a photo of the license plate.

We stayed until the police arrived and gave them our info. Once we told them we had picture, they were able to done load them, which I thought was really cool. I figured we would have to print them out and get to the lady who's car was hit. Which we did as well. All 7 of us who saw it happened, ended up having to go as witnesses in court. Even with pictures, the jerk tried to fight it.

regardless of who started it, who was right/wrong etc, i still would have called the police.

If I saw a mother trying to protect her children and was being physically attacked by a crazy person, I would call the police or try to get some help from the store. Who cares what they are fighting about. I'm kinda little, so I don't think I would be brave enough to confront them alone.

::yes::

Especially with the kids there.

Regarding the “racial fight”, more information needs to be known before defining the incident as a racial fight. Because the women used derogatory words, doesn't necessarily classify the incident as a racial fight. I would imagine that an incident occurred prior to the name-calling.

I never said I wouldn't call the police, but the original post gives the impression that the whitye woman was totally innocent,

not enough info to establish innocence or guilt

I would have gone into the store and let them call the police. I have done this in the past when occurences are happening in the store lot.

The fight could have been over anything & then the name calling started...who knows?

I would totally have ignored it.

Usually when I see people yelling and fighting at Kmart or Walmart, they are family members. :goodvibes

 Ha! me too! Maybe we're related.

I'm pretty sure I would have ignored it too unless one of them was calling for help.
