WWYD? offered free upgrade

I am staying for 9 nights at POP on Free Dining, but I booked last December. I am checking in 8/24. Maybe that's why? I called to inquire about it, and they said no PIN was attached to my name. :confused3 They also said it's TOTALLY random!

Congrats to you all...I wish I got the upgrade! :wizard: Wonder if they are still sending out emails.

Anyone get "THE" e-mail today?

joyerbides I think it just depends on who you talk to. I had to call a couple of different times to get things right. Basically, if you don't get the answer you want from one, then keep trying. Eventually, so it seems, you'll get what you want. I am just feeling very blessed right now. This is our first vacation and it seems that everything is just falling into place.

Thats GREAT! What a first trip you are going to have!!

Has anyone received an upgrade that is a DVC memeber? I am wondeing if that will automatically disqualify me as they aleady have my commitment fo the next 50 years. LOL

I doubt many DVC members booked free dining at a value resort. There is no reason since the selection to upgrade is random, they would even know you are a DVC member.

This is not a marketing strategy by DVC to sell DVC memberships, the Values are severely over booked and they are freeing up rooms, with random selection. Nothing more.

Wow I am really hoping this upgrade thing spreads. I'm booked at POR. It would be awesome to get upgraded to something better like the Poly. But I doubt it really it. My thought here is how can Disney overbook. They assign each room when you call in and give you the confirmation number. Surely Disney's computers can count. :confused3

I suspect it isn't "overbooking." I think that they need to open more rooms at the values because people still want to book there for August but can't get rooms. Many would probably choose to stay off-site instead of paying for a mod or deluxe. Disney wants everyone onsite!

I hope that no one takes the bait on the last post because this thread has been really fun. I'd hate to see it get ugly and wind up closed.

Excuse me but I fail to see how this question should/would turn this thread 'ugly'?????? :confused3

In case you haven't noticed, I have posted on here several times and each time have had nothing to say but congrats to all those lucky enough to have had this wonderful upgrade offered. :wizard: Why on earth would you pull something like that out of my post when I simply asked WHY people were, seemingly, unsatisfied about being upgraded to 'only' a studio??? Do you know how many posts on here involve people actually complaining that they were 'only' able to get a studio??? Then everyone else says "call back, call back" and sure enough, after all sorts of finangiling, the caller ends up reporting back that "Great news!! We ALL got upgraded to 1 brdm villas"!!!!

Please stop trying to create a drama on this thread that was not intended. :sad2: It was a simple question.

Please take this the right way. No sour grapes here but I'm curious to know why on earth the people who were offered a studio were not happy enough with THAT???? :confused3 I'm sorry but, especially considering you have free dining, why does every party of a Grand Gathering need their OWN 1 bdrm villa? Why not take 2 studios and maybe 1 villa or something????

Okay....really, this is the only thing that has me miffed. In fact, we have 3 rooms booked at ASMu and I wouldn't dream of taking 3 villas when it is totally unnecessary. You're going from a Value to a Deluxe!!!! They could cram all 8 of us into one 2bdrm unit for all I care...not that we'd be cramped...but there is no way I would ever ask for 3 villas for our party!!! :headache:

To each his own. :hippie: Just my opinion on this.

I was happy to take a studio, but I did call back and was given a 1 BR. I don't think people aren't happy, it's just that when they see others getting something better, they want it too, it's just human nature. I called 4 minutes after the email arrived - it was sent to me on 6-7-07 at 3:01 pm.

When I called back asking about the 1 BR, I apologized and my CM said, hey, don't worry about it, I'd do the same.

We're having our family "honeymoon" from 8/26-8/29. I'm crossing my fingers we get an e-mail! It'll be my wife-to-be (Getting married at Shades of Green on 8/25) and my two daughters! If not, we love Pop. It's fun for the little AND big kids. :)

I understand. Thank you for asnwering my question. I realize that everybody would be happy enough with a studio if that's all that was offered I was just wondering why people were so insistent about being upgraded again to a villa. It is hard hearing that others are being offered villas instead of studios, I imagine but I would just be soooo thrilled with ANY upgrade!!!

You're all so lucky!!! :cool1:

Sorry - had to respond - since I was the post stating that I got 3 rooms all 1BR's....Lisa - it has nothing to do with necessary or not - it has to do with - I was offered an upgrade that included my choice of either studio or 1BR...my party consisted of 3 rooms...what was I supposed to do - say I choose the studio for all of us (or one of us or two of us...)??? I don't get it - if you win the lottery and they offer you the choice of $10 or $10,000,000, and oh yeah - this lottery gives your friend or family member the same choice - would you REALLY say 'I'll take the 10 mil....but really we'll have enough - so just give my friend/family member the ten dollars'.....

I guess if you would really do that...that's interesting - I was given the choice and I chose the best arrangements for each family involved. Do I feel super lucky? SURE Do I feel like I shouldn't have taken it? No way Would I have been still totally psyched if only studios were available or if the choice was only allowed to be one 1BR per party? TOTALLY!

I've got everything crossed for those who didn't get the upgrade. Hopefully, there will be a special YOAMD happen for your families when you get there - like the Castle stay or the DVC prize.

When I booked, I just asked very nicely if at least one of our three rooms could possibly be a 1-br. I have never had the opportunity to be in a separate bedroom from my kids while on vacation, and I really wanted to be able to do that if given the opportunity. Lo and behold, they booked all three of our rooms as 1-br's! I was beyond surprised, I really didn't expect to get that lucky. After all, I figured I was lucky enough just to get upgraded at all! Do we NEED three 1-br villas? Probably not. Are we going to enjoy them to the fullest? You betcha!

I know what you mean though about people not being happy about what they were given. I would have been just as thrilled to be upgraded into three studios, or two studios and one 1-br. I never would have had the nerve or cojones to call back and say, "Excuse me, I know I just got this fantastic upgrade, but it's really not enough and could I please have just a little bit more? No? Oh ok... well I'll just call again and ask someone else." But that's just me... I feel like an idiot even just calling to change ADRs! I know they have a record of every time I've called, and every change or request I've made, and I guess since I work answering phones one of my biggest fears is sounding like an idiot on the phone. Because I talk to at least 100 people a day who DO sound like idiots on the phone. All I can say is, man I'm glad I don't work at Disney CRO.

Can't wait 'till free dining at SSR!! Does it get any better than that, really?

I don't think Lisa meant to sound nasty or jealous about this. It is just that some people are calling back and asking for a 1 bedroom when there is only 2 people in the party and would fit quite nicely in a studio. Maybe leave the larger rooms for the larger parties. The studio is still larger than the value rooms and will include a refrigerator, not to mention the upgraded amenities at a deluxe resort. I totally saw her point and was shocked that she got flamed.:confused3

I have never stayed at a deluxe resort because I could never afford to (well, I probably could, but it would take a ton of saving!). If I was offered an upgrade (which won't happen because I booked through a TA..stupid me!), I would probably try to get all I could out of it, because I may never ever be able to stay at a resort like that again in my life! Would I be happy if they sent us to the Poly? Absolutely! Would I ask if I could get concierge as well? You bet! Same with SSR, I'd totally jump on the chance of a 1br, but I'd be happy with the studio as well. I understand that from one person's view it might seem selfish or greedy, but hey, it's very rare these days to get anything for free, so why not take advantage of the magic if a little pit of pixie dust gets sent your way!

If you got the email when is your trip? Seems most of them are over the labor day weekend. Please post your dates. Thanks

Congrats to everyone!

That's fantastic!!! Totally different if that's what was offered to you when you called. Of course I agree that most anybody would go for the gusto in that scenario!!!! :thumbsup2

You'll have a wonderful holiday!!!! :dance3:

Thanks!!! I'm sure not holding my breath though!!! :rolleyes1 Can you imagine getting offered the castle for a night???? :cloud9:  :cloud9: Wait...no...the DVC would be 1000 times better!!!! :yay:

Again...totally different scenario and probably the exact way I would have handled the same situation!!! Congrats on your upgrade!!!:woohoo:

PS - I truly don't know how the CMs at CRO manage to be so darn cheerful all the time!!! I have never dealt with anybody that hasn't been nice as pie!!!:cheer2: I can only imagine the crap they deal with too!!! :headache:

Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I really did not intend to sound nasty in any way. I was really just wondering. :hippie:

Ooooh....Poly concierge!!!!! :cloud9: Now that would be the be all and end all for moi!!!! :wizard:

I've noticed there are some posts in this thread about TA bookings and the pin code upgrade.

TA bookings are eligible. The TA must phone Disney and have them research the guest's personal data to see if there is a pin code associated with the profile. These pins are random and totally miscellaneous in nature, and were even sent to people who are not booked. The pin offers are very limited and only for check ins from Aug 26-Sept 1.

Call your TA and ask them to check if there is an offer associated with your profile. The CMs have to go through a bit of work to do this, as does the TA. But if there is an offer then it can be applied to your booking.

Not everyone booked during these dates got an offer regardless of HOW they booked their trip (TA or on their own). OKW and SSR have a smaller number of rooms available and are subject to be full much quicker than a Disney Value resort. TA bookings were not excluded, its just not as obvious an offer.

Here's the reality of it...large parties traveling together may have been better off to keep some of the accomodations as studios as I feel they'd have a better chance of being closer to each other. The reason why is because many of the room configurations have a studio attached to a 1bdrm (that way it can also be used as a 2bdrm unit if necessary). So yes, they may have lucked out by everyone getting 1 bdrm villas -- but they might not even be in the same building.

Also, I think everyone needs to be prepared to be placed in the areas that are a little farther away from the main building/pool as the most desired locations will probably be assiged to DVC members and those that originally had reservations and are paying OKW/SSR rates. Some of these will probably be handicap-accessable rooms and ones that were previously considered smoking-optional. I'm really not trying to rain on anyone's parade...just want people to be realistic about what will be available for them. Even so, it's one heck of an upgrade and I for one feel like I've won a major prize in the YOAMD before I've even left the house! :thumbsup2
