Got your attn? This a.m.as I was exploring the new part of the members sight I decide to check out future vacations. As I am looking over my upcoming trips....Oh yeap there OKW, yep theres VB.......wait wait wait....wheres AKL for the dd's bday wkend? Okay no its okay, you've beena member for 13 yrs and never had a problem...breath breath. Zip over to my yahoo email to check my confirmations from Jan when I booked..okay theres OKW May 7-12, VB June 2-10, AKL March 5-7...WTH??? No no no she said May 5-7th. Wait wait wait its 0900 and call MS and get your typical nice CM explain what has gone wrong, please hold, okay I'm crying at this point..on hold. All the while thinking I own this I should have reviewed the confirmation. Yes I should have but in 13 yrs as a member I have never had a problem, I would print my confirmation letter the night before we left. So the nice CM comes back, I'm sorry my supervisor said theres nothing we can do. I said please let me speak to that supervisor so I am put on hold. Be back shortly......

After about a 7 minute wait, the supervisor gets on the phone and begins with I'm sorry but this is a business and the room was held March 5-7th and DVC had to imburse the resort yadadada. I politely interrupt and basically repeat back what he had told me and then added that another part of business is customer service. And that in my 13 yrs of ownership I had built a naive trust in Disney and I owned that it had not been my practice to review confirmations because I had never had an issue and I did own that but the CM very clearly had repeated back May 5-7th to me on the phone. So he asked what number had I called from and said he could review the phone call. I asked "seriously?" and he said yes so I with excitement encouraged him to please do so and he said he would call me back in a few hrs.

Approxiately 2 hrs later I rec'd a phone call at work, my points had been credited back to my account. Thank you big brother. But guess what no rooms available so I am now waitlisted for 2 different catagories @ AKL for May 5-7th. He said he felt very strongly something would open open by the 1st wk in April. So please throw some pixie dust my way, my sweet girl wants her bday wkend at AKL.

Moral of the story, always read the confirmations, lesson learned, Disneys not perfect but I am grateful it has somewhat worked out. Thankful to the CM who went above and beyond for customer service.

Glad to know that it worked out and at least you got your points back.

I have to say, every time I call MS to book something, change, etc. I go on the website and double check that everything is there.

I will be double diligent now to check the confirmation.

So glad this was straightened out for you... sort of. Every time I read of something like this I immediately check my own reservations, etc. so thank you for posting even though I can imagine the panic you must have felt.
Even though the supervisor was doing what he's supposed to, an email to Member Satisfaction about his assistance (taking the extra step to check the recordings) would not be remiss.
Hope the waitlist comes through for you.

Ok you totally gave me heart failure while reading your post! So glad you've got your points back and sending you tons of pixie dust that your May ressies come through! Even though you are on a waitlist, can you call and hound em daily for availability?

:) I so know how you feel. When we purchased our points in 2009 our Guide George made us great reservations for savannah view studios for a trip we had already planned and paid for that Oct at Pop. You know it was part-of- the-sale type reservation. Well later that afternoon MIL and I decided to just keep the Pop reservation since it was a good price and I CANCELLED THE 2 SAVANNA STUDIOS. Yes, I was a newbie and thought, " Oh I will just call back tomorrow and get them back". You see DH had come home and when he discovered that I had cancelled the animal view he was livid...did I say angry

So....in my great wisdom...and since I knew I was just going to get those studios back the following day. MIL and I cancelled Pop. So basically we would be without any reservations for our annual trip until I contacted MS the following morning.

I get up early patiently wait for MS to open and make the call...wa wa wa what do you mean there are NO SV STUDIOS for our dates...sorry Ma'am, none available. OMG!! I had no reservation, no AKV, no Pop, had screwed DH's reservations and those of my MIL.

Well to say I was hysterical is an understatement. I had George's cell and called him right away....and left a message...of course he took about 30 minutes to call me back which allowed me to take 3 nitro tablets for the chest pain (just kidding). :sad1:

So he gets on the line and asks me "Oh no, why did you do that?"

"Oh George I was being stupid, I, I, I don't know what I was thinking"

"Well say a prayer that I can get you those rooms again"

"yes George I will say a prayer"...so of course he put me on hold...probably went to make coffee, grabbed a donut, discussed his Sat night outing at the water cooler. And came back on line after abut 5 minutes (an eternity to me).

"I got your rooms back"...well let me tell you I was elated. In one call he saved my marriage, relationship with the MIL and our annual trip to Disney.

I wrote a letter to Jim Lewis...it was two pages describing the error of my ways..and of course lamenting that it wouldn't happen again. I also commented that I was an intelligent college educated woman who knew that they had to hold DVC rooms in reserve for "marketing"...well it didn't matter that morning...I had my rooms back, all was right in my universe.

George is my hero--we don't have kids but maybe we will name our next beloved pet--George.

So sorry for the long post. I hope it helps someone else feel better.

Of course Jim Lewis office did call me back and the lady left a message on my phone saying" your letter was terrific and we very rarely get one like that". Moral of the story...don't touch reservations at a world class resort if you do not know what you are doing.

One thing I always do before I make a reservation is verify the number of points the reservation will be and what my points balance will be afterwards. March is more points than May so it would have been caught this way.

We're waitlisted at AKV that weekend too. We're currently booked at SSR. What is up with the busy May weekend?

Hope it works out for you!!!!

A very good lesson especially now with online booking, if we mess up online it will be simply too bad, as we made the mistake.

It was a 2 pt difference. I didn't even notice. Maybe if it had been 12-20 points it would have slapped me. But at my house its like a zoo and I would simply write off the 2 point decrip. as I had made an error.

Exactly, I love the control it gives me to review available inventory and book myself. Had I not been playing with the new area on the members website my vaca would have been ruined. But I agree if we screw up our own ressie then we own it. LOVE the new system!!!

We had the same thing happen to us when booking a villa about a year ago. We booked a villa at the VWL for a Sept stay, and after getting off the phone with MS, discovered that the stay had actually been booked for a different month. I always check my online acct after talking with MS, so the problem was found early and fixed. Moral of the story, MS mistakes can and do happen - you get to talking to the MS representative and they can get distracted and book the wrong dates. Always check your reservations online! OP, hope your waitlist comes thru for May.

I think people can try to protect themselves, but the reality is that human nature takes over at some point and after 13 years it's not surprising that you would default to your trust in the system. It's great of course that you were vindicated, but that doesn't guarantee you're going to get what you asked for in the first place. I'm sort of surprised, since the tape obviously showed that you had given them the right dates, that they don't have to take accountability and give you what was available when you booked. I guess it is what it is.

I would be surprised if you didn't get what you are hoping for. Not sure what room category you are looking for, but I would hope that you went ahead held something elsewhere, does she have a 2nd favorite? I find that my daughters second favorites are usually not too far removed from the favorite!

Good luck, it would be great to hear that this situation resolved itself the way it should--with you getting what you had planned for.

Lots of Pixie Dust! And a word of encouragement-we had a similar situation happen to us, where they had to review the phone call to check what dates we'd reserved. Apparently that phone call didn't look too good for them either. And we were already at the resort being told that our reservation ended about 4 days earlier than we'd reserved and the resort was full. Nothing they could do but put us on a waitlist and yes the waitlist did "magically" come through. Moving us wasn't an option-this was HHI-but in the end, it worked out. Let's hope yours does too (and we now always check confirmations carefully!)

I like to get a paper copy mailed from DVC. When it arrives a week after the reservation is made, I look it over, then it goes on the frig to be stared at until the departure date :)

Wow! What stories!! I can see myself making any of those mistakes!

I would say you have a good chance of getting your May waitlist come through. It's hot and most people don't take their kids out of school in May for vacation. They either did it before or they are waiting for June. We have never had a problem in May. Good luck!!!

Crossing our fingers for you! we check out on May 5th and head home. I think that I had read that there is some Expedition Everest 5K challenge that weekend which might be why it's busier than most of us would have anticipated! Good luck!
