Airmiles Armchair Chatter

So I did something yesterday that I didn't think I would. I'm not at all sure how I feel about it but it's done so no turning back.
I booked a Disney cruise, in fact I booked two Disney cruises. B2B sailing out of Port Canaveral. My placeholder was going to expire and they offered 25% off on one of the sailings with the placeholder so I guess I was 'bribed'. That's what I'm telling myself anyways. I hate the idea of traveling in the US but I justified it in my wee brain. I booked Porter and paid way to much, just to have it done. Who knows if the prices will be going up, down, or even if there will be jet fuel at that point.

We will fly on a Thursday, stay two nights in the bubble. We will not do a park. Then sail on the Saturday for two weeks, go directly to the airport and fly home. I know most of that money will funnel into the US but what's done is done.
Now, to break it to my family who also feels negatively towards the US at the moment.

I wonder if it would make sense to book TO hotel now or wait for the new AMs system to kick in. If I understand correctly while I pay the taxes now, with the new system I can include that. Thinking, thinking......

Hi Tink
You have to do what's right for you and hold strong to that belief.
Nobody knows your life like you do. Everyone has the right to make decisions for themselves.

I am also heading down in 2027 and dearly hoping HWSNBN is no longer in control .
I have a few family members who frown,, but they do see me doing other things that I can to promote
Canada at home so they back off a bit.

My 2027 flight was showing $700- $1000 Toronto YYZ to Orlando MCO.
That is double what I normally pay. Wow oh Wow way to high.
I have a feeling with the cost of Jet Fuel that is not going to change much.
Many will be watching how this plays out.

So this past weekend I was checking again and it had dropped and I bought.
There is only 1 direct flight and only one flight a day,,,, I was shocked to see that.
Using my Westjet points I was able to get it down to $300 return.
It's a price that this retired girl can afford for a much need vacation away.

Hugs Hon
Mel

PS
Congrats on your B2B Disney cruises,

For those of you waiting for a redeem event. I predict one will come along soon as I just redeemed a bunch of miles today for some luggage accessories.
Always the way it goes. Thanks for being the sacrificial lamb so the event will come quicker, lol.

I paid $1840 for two return YYZ to MCO and you are correct, way to much. I just wanted to get it done and I will not look at the flights at all going forward so I don't regret what I did. Was able to use a gift card purchased at Costco though and saved $50 that way. $50 is $50, better in my pocket than Porters.
Not all that familiar with Porter however the tickets I booked are the front of the plane, extra luggage ones. They have their own check in line I believe. Could have gone cheaper but not enough to make a huge dent.

Porter Reserve is nice, it includes luggage, seat selection, a meal (it'll be cold since they don't have any way to heat them on those planes) and priority boarding, and check in line. I enjoyed it when we flew that way. I flew "regular" Porter my last trip as it was just me and it was still nice. I didn't have a checked bag so didn't need a check in line any way. I was closer to the back of the plane but ended up with no one in the seat next to me there or back. So that was nice. I find with the seats being two by two, the over head space is easier to get than in the planes with more seats. But that could be in my head. Either way, enjoy the flight and cruises!

You will like reserve...plus if you actually price it out..with luggage etc.. kts close to same price...so anythkng over 2 hours we take reserve....next time buy more of the costco GCs..unlike AC..you can use up to 4 plus your CC...enjoy the extra leg room

I did not know that about gift cards for Porter Airlines. Thank you for sharing that.

we filled up Frederick yesterday because the predictions are for another increase at the pumps tomorrow. I'm not sure how much it cost for half a tank, just squeeze the handle and ignore the numbers!

interesting to see that this gas offer isn't for just Shell, it's good for almost all gas locations - not sure about costco but it looks like anywhere that classifies as fuel. If this threshold continues to be so high, we won't be getting any of the bonuses, even if the prices stay this high, Fredrick has a tiny tummy

So gas is going back up to what it was before we were gifted 10 cents off per litre? lol Can't wait for the so-called "Summer Blend" to come out increasing it even more.

the summer blend is what the big increase we had on the weekend was from, then Monday's drop of the tax brought it back "down" around 1.50 in our city. The expected increase between today and Thursday is in reaction to the ongoing flip-flops of the strait (how many of us hadn't even heard of it before Feb?! I live with a geography nerd so it wasn't as new to me 😛)

Atlantic Canada doesn't follow the same gas price schedule as Ontario, I believe they have some rules/regulations around pricing being consistent that Ontario does not, they can only update prices on certain days and they set minimum and/or maximum prices (the provinces vary on this). Not sure about western Canada or Quebec though.

Was just out to get our passports renewed and noticed gas prices. We have two not far from our house that are right across the street from each other. One was $1.44, the other was $1.67. It's mind boggling. Mind you, neither one appeared busy.
