Wow! NC does shut down when it snows

Rowan County Schools send out a connect-ed..that's their automatic voicemail system...that said they aren't going to make a decision until the morning. I can't wait for my 5am wake up call!

Our school are closed again tomorrow and we're scheduled to go Saturday (assuming we don't get that storm Friday). The roads look adequately clear to me, but I don't make the decisions and I certainly don't have the responsibility of keeping children safe.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't heard the schools are closed tomorrow. UGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH I agree with you about the roads. Guess I better go check the school website.

I agree about the roads today. (We are in Harrisburg) It is crazy. I think someone wanted an extra day off, so they called off the schools again! ;) So not looking forward to more of it this weekend!

Hey neighbor! I'm on the other side of Harrisburg!

We've got that in Cabarrus County too. I'm with ya on the 5:00 am wake up call! The other morning I got the 5:00 am call and then 30 minutes later they called me back with the same call...in Spanish. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

OK, I just have to vent for a second. My Best Friend lives in the Raleigh area. She got 4" of snow that has been completely plowed from the street for 2 days (her words, not mine). It is going to be sunny and in the fifties tomorrow and they have cancelled school again tomorrow. She said that she has no idea why.

Wake county is enormous. Your friend's road may have been cleared but there are many parts of the county that have not.

I live in Guilford, a large county as well. Our roads still haven't been cleared. We live in the suburbs. I drove by our HS yesterday and the parking lots were a mess.

My DS 7 goes to a small school, way down in the country. I have to pass 4 dairy farms on our drive to school. I have no doubt that the roads haven't been cleared. If they have, it was done by the farmers.:)

I work in High Point (Guilford Co) and quite a few roads on my way haven't been plowed and are slick in the morning, besides Bus 85. I have a school conference at 7:30am Thurs, but I bet it will be cancelled since I bet we'll all get at least 2 hr delays for the rest of the week (Guilford, Randolph, Davidson, city schools, etc). My kids are going stir crazy at home on day 3 out when they had a short week last week as well for teachers workdays. They can't go out and play b/c it rained a lot yest afternoon so its mainly icy slush outside. I've heard we have MORE on the way this weekend. Yuck! I'm dreaming of hot weather, my mama's pool, and the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, sigh... I have to go to work an hour early since I can't drive for 2 weeks plus I suck at icy road driving, so luckily most of my co-workers live within a couple miles of me. They also shoveled the walkways & salted them just for me:).

seriously? Davie and Iredell closed AGAIN! For what? I could almost understand a delayed opening but this is just stupid.

We live in Stanly County. Our kids went back to school today. (As well as Meck. & Cab. counties.) Probably could have yesterday too but Monday the ice was still pretty bad. I think if it was just snow, it would be different. NC gets hit hard because when it does snow (if it's not sleet/ice to begin with), our temps. get just warm enough the day after to make an icy mess the next day. And, no matter how careful you drive, there isn't much you can about ice.

I think the past couple years there have been 2 school buses that have overturned in this area due to ice so I think they are being extra cautious.

Well, I got my 5am wakeup call......to say that school was cancelled in Rowan County. To be honest, I wouldn't have put my children on a school bus that had to drive on my road. It's a very narrow, curvy road that is totally shaded. It barely looks different than it did on Saturday. I spun my tires pulling on the main rd yesterday and someone ran right off the road in into my ditch...missed the telephone pole by less than a foot...in the middle of the afternoon yesterday. That being said, I sure would have driven them if they had school today.....we are READY to go back to school.

I'm a teacher in Rowan County. It was optional for us today, and I took the option to stay in bed.

However, seeing as it's 10:00 and it's still very foggy, I can't imagine our buses running on roads that are still icy (and they are), combined with this amount of fog. Accident waiting to happen.

Sorry if I came off like I think they should had school.....I'm just venting.....and saying that carrying your children on your back to school should be an option :rolleyes1 Like I said, my road in Eastern Rowan County is still completely iced over. I wouldn't have put my children on a school bus. I hear it's still very bad in Mt. Ulla.

I thought for sure that since they waited for this morning to make the call that it was either normal schedule or a 2 hour delay. What changed? Fog? There isn't any fog here but maybe it's bad in other areas.

I live across the street from my school and when I posted that message I couldn't see the school for the fog.

Chapel Hill schools took a 2 hour delay today which meant so did daycare :cool1:. Thank goodness - we were running out of options.

Chatham County Schools 2 hour delay on Thurday..

.. and we got mail yesterday. I give the mailman credit for coming down our gravel road.

Howdy, neighbor!

Funny thing is, my road, now mostly clear, finally got a snow plow. :lmao:I was like, "WHERE THE HECK WERE YOU 3 DAYS AGO!?!?!?!?"

Okay, it was up to 50 or 55 degrees today and the schools are still opening 2 hours late tomorrow. This is actually getting kind of funny, LOL

Not really, they are calling for temps below freezing. I guess they are worried about black ice.

i live in chatham county on a gravel road that a school bus travels on. there is still snow and ice on the shady parts of the road, plus, the part that's clear is like a swamp with gravel. chatham county is very rural and there are still lots of gravel roads. our neighbors with kids will drive them tomorrow so the bus doesn't have to come down our road.

Last night, we got some sleet that turned into snow. Today that dusting of snow got mostly pummeled out of the way by the rain that came during the day. We went from a winter weather advisory to flood watches (with some warnings south of here).
