I don't get these people.
Do they not understand the term 'property line'?

I mean - go nuts, mow my yard, that's fine. (DH just mowed ours 2 days ago...so it's not like it was 3 feet high or anything.)

That and the fact that they just erected a playscape about 5 feet from the property line...guess I just need to get used to kids running around in that part of my yard.

Man it's gonna suck when we put up a fence and the kids go down their slide and smack into the fence.

ok - he's REALLY mowing alot of our yard...I don't get it - it's NOT his property! I don't want him thinking it is!

we have a strip of grass...a bunch of dirt...and then our new lawn (my house is new construction - their's was an existing home.) he's mowing that strip of grass before the dirt..which is right in front of our shed.

I dont' get it? and I REALLY don't have the nerve to go out there and ask him what the heck he is doing...man I wish DH was home right now

go tell him you just mowed that part of YOUR lawn 2 days ago, but thanks for the trim! Defintely get that fence up!!

Could you send him over here! DH hates mowing the lawn and isn't great about getting it done. I could use a neighbor like that!

i'm thinking a row of arborvities (sp? those trees?) might be a good idea.

a nice defining line...might be cheaper then a fence too.

I just don't want to be around when he comes running out asking him WHY we are planting on HIS property.

I want to like these people...I really do...but they do stupid stuff like this!

one time we called the cops because there was a truck (big dump truck) parked SIDEWAYS in our driveway (totally blocking us in - DH is a volunteer FF - what if he had a call?) Turns out it was the wife's parents dumping dirt for them...AT TEN O'CLOCK AT NIGHT?!?!?!

I hope they know where the property line is.

I do know what you mean about wanting to be friendly with them. We have new neighbors that moved in and they put up a mailbox and now its blocking my view to the road when I leave my driveway. I don't want to ask them to move it back a bit, afraid to casuse some friction.

exactly!

and I'm afraid if I mention this to DH he'll be all "so what? If they wanna mow it - let them!"

I just don't want these people encroaching any more on our property.

totally gonna train the dog to do her business on THAT strip of land.

cleaning dog poop out of your lawnmower tires a few times might keep you off my lawn.

Perhaps he thinks that if he keeps mowing the lawn, it WILL become his property. ;) Just kidding...

We recently had a problem with a neighbor over our fence and his over-grown arecas that destroyed our fence. It was very unpleasant and a very very long story. We have a good sized lot and share the property line behind our house with two separate houses/lots. Things get messy when so many people are involved.

In the end, one of the neighbors wanted 3 inches of our property. He couldn't understand why he couldn't have them. He just kept putting 3 fingers in from of my face and saying, "I just want 3 inches of your property, that's all I want. Why can't I have it?"   Of course, it didn't help that the guy is an alcoholic, so he wasn't rational. I was livid, DH couldn't understand why I would allow the moron to get me so upset. This went on for weeks... In the end, I did what I have never done.  I told him that my brother is an attorney (which is true) and that our problem was about to get "legal". He backed off at that point.

My advice is to put up that fence asap. Good luck to you!

no - you hit the nail on the head!

I can't belive someone would ASK you for some of your property though! Hi - do you want to pay me for the taxes I'll be paying on those 3 inches?

really really wish DH would be home to see this stuff...

Stinkerbelle~ You have no idea. The whole thing was like an episode from The Twilight Zone.

My mom was visiting us when all that was going on and she couldn't believe it! I would get home from dropping off the kids at their schools and 5 minutes later... the moron was knocking on our door at 8 a.m., with a beer in his hand.

haha... I find that incredibly funny to picture. :teeth:

hey we found out after we bought ours, one of our neighbors ran his sewer line across what he claimed was a city right of way(wrong) its right down middle of one of my three lots,, i cant wait till my trees get larger:) he was telling me what i could and couldnt do with that land,, i told him there is no right of way on my deed.. there is a city alley across a 5 ft strip at the edge of that lot,, but not where his lines run,, he has nothing in writing saying he had permission to lay his line there, and since the city has not maintained the alley in over 5 years.. its no longer thiers either,,, and this neighbor likes to mow that section of my yard too.. i think he has it in his head that he has a claim to it since he maintained that lot for 3 years while this house aws vacant,, and his sewer runs through it,, now htat i think of it,, i not sure a foot or so of his portch isnt on my property,, i think i going to hire a surveyor and find out for sure where the exact lines lay,, and build me a fence:) then poiur fertilize to the trees andshrubs i have planted along the top of his sewer pipe:) areent i so nice :)

I've got a story for you........

My parents live in a very rural part of Georgia and they own 200 acres. Well, my grandfather marked the property lines before he died ( I think he did it in 1987). In 1995 the "gentleman" (and I use this term VERY loosely) who owned the propery adjacent to my parent's land had his property timbered. The timber workers overshot the property line by 5 acres - on my parent's land. In 1999 my Dad walked the propery line and discovered this, he was very upset and contacted this "gentleman". The "gentleman" was livid and INSISTED it was his property even though the barbed wire fence my gandfather erected was lying in the dirt!!! It turns out that the State of GA has a law that if you "claim" some property and maintain it for a certain number of years then it is yours after the statute of limitations is up!!!. ***?!!!!! It would have cost my parents more money to fight it in court than the land was worth, so now they only have 195 acres. Please, please put up that fence!

here's the story behind my house/land

guy owns the house in front of us, he's getting on in years and decides to move south with his son. he subdivides his lot and sells his house. our builder bought that back lot, so that's where our house is.

there is a shed on the property that got 'grandfathered' into OUR property..we use it, we have a key to it, we put the power out to it. ours. The guy who bought the original house was kinda upset about it.

it's odd..their backyard abuts our side yard. I look out my family room window and see this giant playscape so close to the property line it ain't funny. And it's REALLY far from their house. (meaning - mom can't be in the kitchen watchign the kids in the backyard it's so far out.)

I hope DH doesn't just shrug this off...he's so 'whatever' in life...sometimes I just want to tell him to stand up for things in life!!
