So, I was thinking of doing a vow renewal for our upcoming cruise. For some reason, I thought the cost was $1500 to do an onboard cruise - which was about $65 more than the cost of the four day cruise itself for the three of us. But $2500! That costs $1000 more than the cruise itself costs. Well, I guess it's back to the drawing board . . . .

Anyone else besides me surprised by it? How much is the basic at WDW itself?

Yes, DCL did raise their prices....it is $2500 onboard and $3500 for Castaway Cay. Weddings and VR's are the same price.

We just did our VR in December.....no way would i have spent $2500 for what we got. You can do a great ceremony at Shades of Green or Swan and Dolphin for that price and have a lot more control over what you get.

Depending on which ports you are going to you could also consider doing a VR on the beach through a local company and just skipping disney.

I know that when we had issues with DCL we looked at this in Nassau - http://www.oneandonlyresorts.com/flash.html

I can't find all of the original info the resort sent me. I found this website -

If you look at their wedding packages. The cheapest one is $825 maybe more like what you were expecting to spend.

HTH!!

I actually read your saga and felt so bad about some of the problems - even though your pix were amazing!

I guess I'm just shocked at $2500 for essentially an hour of stuff - and it doesn't even include photos! No way I could justify it to dh - and I'm not sure I would want to!

I debate back and forth all the time on whether the VR was a good idea or a huge waste of time and money, and that is just a horrible way to feel after a Disney experience. :sad2: On 1 hand the VR itself was fun and we and our guests had a great time with it. And it did bring our family closer together and the children loved it. On the other hand it was so far gone from my original dream and I had to fight so much to get what little we had, which was still NOT what we wanted but more settling for what we could get.....it was just not the VR i wanted.

In the middle of my fighting with DCL DFTW I checked into Swan & Dolphin and also venues around orlando. I found the perfect place for us that I really liked, but it would have been a small change in plans for my guests which i didn't want to do. in the end they would have loved it and everyone would have been happier. should have followed my gut.

Hi
I am doing a VR in May 2011. It is a small affair with a total of 13 guests plus us.
I have gone back and forth about doing it with DFTW and Swan and Dolphin. Eventually I decided on the S and D. Yes, ideally I would have loved to go though DFTW, but I am from the UK and with the price of trans-atlantic flights on top of a DFTW package, the total was really adding up.
Once I had decided on the S and D I soon discovered that I can have a ceremony at the East Courtyard (in front of the beautiful Swan fountain) all the services the same as was offered by DFTW, (planner, officiant, musician etc)), and an al-a-carte list of things which I could add if I wanted to. I have chosen my own photographer (Randy), my own cake (It's Tasty too) and flowers (atmospheres) and these vendors will all liaise with my planner. I am also getting two limos instead of one, so that there will be no 'hanging around' for my guests.
Afterwards I am planning on dinner at Citricos and a fireworks cruise on the Grand 1 (assuming I am lucky enough to be able to get it booked!!) with added desserts and drinks.
This is all costing just $900.00 more than I would have paid for the Escape package alone (without any reception or DP or enhancements), and IMHO I am getting nicer flowers and cake. I certainly have more control over these things.
Like I said I would have loved to have gone through DFTW but feel I am missing out on very little. Randy will still take photos at the Boardwalk as well as the Swan, and also at the GF when we go for the meal after the ceremony. I can still have characters attend if I wish (although I probably won't be able to afford this). The only thing I would not be entitled to is the in-park photography session, but as I wasn't planning on doing this anyway, it's not really an issue.
I guess what I am saying is it is worth looking into other options if DFTW gets beyond your financial reach and although it may seem a slight compromise to go with somebody else, I know for me it means I can have the day I dream of at Disney for a price I can afford
Good luck with your planning!!!

We had a set of our own issues, however once on the ship we had the time of our lives. Castaway Cay was perfect for us. Also to note there is now a new DCL wedding coordinator.

If interested, similar to Bride-to-be I came across a resort I just fell in love with on Nassau, Compass Point

Check out the photostream it's drool worthy!

I also found that the Hilton Cocoa Beach (near the port) had some really great rates.

There's also lots of other options near WDW if you are interested.

HTH! :goodvibes
