WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Ok I got this email from USGoldBuyers..
Thank you for your interest in our company. We do purchase silver
at 80% of the spot price. Please feel free to ship us the sets via USPS
(tracking number / signature required). For more information please write
back or call us toll-free at 877-977-4653.

And this email from GoldFellow
Yes, we purchase silverware as long as it is marked .925 or sterling silver. If your items are not marked like that, antique silver also may have a “royal” type of marking. If you have this type of marking, email me back and I can forward you a site that displays many of the hallmarks.
If you cannot find any of those markings, but the silverware has a pattern written on it, we could google the pattern and manufacturer to make certain that it is silver and not silverplated before you go to the trouble of packing and shipping
.

Nice work!

And great customer service from both companies! :thumbsup2

It's probably a tad easier for them now that prices have dropped a bit and some people are waiting to see if they increase.

I think I remember reading that USGB will not pay to ship silver. Anyone know about GF?

Just sent my 9 items off to goldfellow today. Can't wait to see what they say. Hey, anything's better than it sitting around unused and it will be more "found $$" for WDW :thumbsup2 .

Is there any way to tell if earrings are real gold? I have lots of old gold stud earrings but I don't know if they are real or not. :confused3 Is there any way to tell? I don't want to bother sending them in if they are not real.

This thread is awesome! I had no idea anything like this even exsisted! :upsidedow

Anyone know if they take jewelery with fake stones in it, or small diamond accents. I have some DMQ pieces that I wouldn't mind selling, and lots of diamond accented stuff too. TIA :)

Just got my call that I could view my goldfellow settlement on line. $89.94 for the WDW fund for just a few items. I just sent my Fedex package yesterday at ~ noon, so I was surprised to hear from them so quickly :thumbsup2 . Thanks so much to OP for the info :cool1: .

Use a strong magnet. If they stick to the magnet- they have something else inside them. Gold and silver are not magnetic metals and will not stick.

Got my settlement today; $650. More than I expected for stuff collecting dust because I haven't worn it in 4 years. I opted for a check so hopefully that won't take too long!

I did try the magnet test & they did not stick. Aren't there other metals that won't stick to the magnet though?

I have literally probably 100 of these earring stud settings that the stones have fallen out of or are loose enough to fall out. I inherited a lot of old jewelry from an aunt that passed away. She & her husband had a jewelry business. I think they are real gold but just don't want to bother sending them in if they are not.

I have gold jewelry that retailed at well over $400.00, however when I inquired about the gold value, at local business's, I was told that it would be very little in comparison, for you are paid according to gram weight.
It is really annoying to know that you can have hundreds of dollars worth of gold, but that is a retail price! not in gram weight.
Needless to say, I still have that bit of jewelry put away.
Sometimes it is better to attempt to sell your gold jewelry, instead of selling them according to gram weight, they are then melted down.

On the back of all of my gold jewelry, there is a marking that denotes the carat, 14 K, etc. It is but a tiny marking, but it should be there if it is real gold, with sliver you should find this marking .925, then you know for sure that it is sterling silver.

I got my call this morning (sent my package via Fedex yesterday) - I am getting $702!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO:cool1: I had approximately 2.2 ounces of 14k gold....all junk - broken charms, old fashioned name necklaces from the 80's LOL. This combined with my SW credit from last year should pay our family of 5's airfare to Disney.....WOOO HOOOO:banana:

Thats super!
So what does one small gold necklace weigh approximately I wonder? I know its hard to say for sure - but what about a thin gold chain that you would put a pendant on? Any ideas?

Okay, so I finally got to organizing my jewlery to sell. I took out all the stones, seperated and weighed it all and here is what I have...

3 oz or 54.6874 pennyweights of 14 kt gold @ 21.41 = $ 1170.86

3.8 oz .925 silver @ 12.15 = $46.17

Total $ 1217.03

I called USGoldbuyers and the rep I talked to was adorable, Jessica #304.

I'm curious to see if my postal scale is accurate and how much my check will be. I'll keep you posted...

How did you get the stones out?

here is an article about them in Wall Street Journal. I cant post a link, but it's called "Turning Old Bling Into Fresh Green" . Just do the search on google and you'll see it. it is also on their website, on front page.

very informative actually, about how the whole process works, also good reviews :)

good luck to y'all :)

I've never posted pics before, so here's to hoping this works...

I got the stones out using my old manicuring nippers to bend back the posts. Out they popped, that easy. Some of the bezel set ones got a little mangled but I figured it didn't matter because I was seling scrap anyway. Now if I could just find someone to buy my extensive collection of Diamonique stones :goodvibes .

BTW, DD4 was very excited to add some semi precious stones to her rock collection. She also insisted on keeping some of my earrings just incase she decided to pierce her ears!

Just scavenged the jewelry box again and found more gold!

I'm going to send it in - my second time! :cheer2:

Has anyone sent in more than one shipment? (did they recognize your name?!)
