WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Good news. The price of gold rebounded today. I keep checking the chart on USGB's website.

Adell557,

I had 115 grams of 14K, 10 grams of 10K, and about 80 grams of silver (but the silver payout was minimal). I had a very heavy king link chain and matching bracelet, a nugget bracelet, a substantial rope chain, three or four box chains, 4 or 5 rings, couple of pairs of earrings.

Most of the stuff I sold was still wearable but sort of out of style. Plus, now I really don't wear much jewelry - just a silver cross. So, I put my sentimental side in the closet and sold it all. I figure I can put the money in my ING and earn interest or let the stuff sit in a box and do nothing.

OK, I asked before where people sold there gold, and wrote it down and now I can not find the paper, go figure. Can you tell me again, feel free to pm me if its easier. This time I swear I will staple to my arm. Thanks

Most are selling to US Gold Buyers or GoldFellow. I have my stuff together, I just have to decide if I should go to a local jeweler that is buying or if I should mail it to USGB. Any thoughts? I have about 3 rings (one heavy man's class ring), five earrings, 12 charms, and three chains.

Ladies after reading this wonderful and informative thread and doing a little research, I took the plunge and gathered my stuff and sent it in to USGB. I sent in ~ 5.4 oz of various rings, necklaces, pendants, earrings. I sent it in on Wednesday and received a call this around noon. Boy, that was fast. Anyway, my offer was 1890!! I expected a little more and asked him about it and he said I had 104 dwt, with one necklace (tri-color) was silver and a few pieces which weren't gold. I had 3 questionable pieces in the lot. I had figured I had 111 dwt so I was close. Anyway, I am 1800 dollars richer for stuff just laying around!! Whoo Hoo!:cool1: BTW, the I had spoken with two different people and both were very nice!

Ok. The price of gold over the past couple of days has as many ups and downs as Rockin Roller Coaster! It was down again this am and was all over the place yesterday. My stuff won't get there until Friday.

Well just wanted to update. I sent in gold to USGB and got a call from them less than 24 hours later with an offer of 701.32 so I took it. Great money for really a bunch of junk that I sent them. Thanks to all of you. DH says I have gold rush fever now. :rotfl2:

Thank you for this great info, everyone!
I sent in a little to GF and got a check for 113.00 (I promise it was junk!)

I told my Dad (who lives out of state) and he acted like it was a scam- he is very cynical.
Well, I told my mom and she ended up getting 450.00 for her stuff. She didn't let my dad know what she was doing.
She shows my dad the check and he started looking for stuff that minute.:rotfl2:
It was quite funny, because my mom called me as he is looking for gold.

I had another envelope sent to them so they can get more $$$.

Thank you everyone!!

Ok - finally gonna take the plunge and send mine in to GF today. Weight wise I don't know what I have since I don't have a scale. But I'm sending in 3 rings, 2 bracelets, 2 charms and 5 light weight chains. I actually have no clue what to expect for it all. I was suprised how much gold I had lying around that I havent used in years!

Could someone give me the website you are sending your gold into? There are 106 pages and too much for me to try and go through! lol.

Also, does anyone know if these places will take silverware that is pure silver? I have a HUGE set that my grandmother left me with a note saying "A few pieces are missing, I know you will never use this, please sell it and use it to buy Meg something"
Well there is a TON of silver there and I have just held onto it - right now I have a $3000 car loan I want to pay off and this could be perfect.... then I can use my savings to take Meg to Disneyland!

usgoldbuyers.com or goldfellow.com

USGB seems to have a slightly higher payout, but not as customer oriented (although most people seem pleased with the service).

GF seems to have much better customer service.

Both have had good reviews.

Why don't you contact Goldfellow and ask? If they don't, they might be able to refer you to someone who does.

Edited to add:

Another possibility would be to contact a local company that does estate sales. Silverware is sufficiently portable that you could take it to them for an appraisal. They probably would pay about 30% to 40% of what they estimate to be the retail value.

If you know the manufacturer and pattern, check online with pattern matching services to see what they are selling for (if they are). Just another source of determining potential value.

So here is what I managed to dig up around my house. I will report back what I get for it. I wont be sending it until Saturday though. I am going to zip across the border and send it to them. I also have to dig out the big silverware set!

Wow, you should get a great payout for all that!!!!

I have 4 rings and a chain. I will be happy if I get $20!

I just used Goldfellow. i sent in some earrings, charms, and 2 necklaces. I got $63.50. I was overly excited b/c I was only expecting about $20 b/c it really wasn't that much stuff.

Well it turns out they DO take it! Woohoo!

I'd like to know what they told you and how you are sending it. My Mom left me a set of silver and I will never use it. Never even thought about sending it. I used GF for my jewelry. Who did you call?
