WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I brought my gold to a local jeweler who was advertising that he was buying gold and diamonds. Here is what he offered:

18K- 4.1 p = 64.00
14K 16 p= 168.00
10k 8.1 p = 42.00
14k bracelet 6.1 p 74.00 plus 100 dollars for diamonds.

So I guess I was a bit shocked on the 100.00 dollars for diamonds...I traded in my old wedding ring from my ex husband and got this diamond bracelet that was valued at 1000 dollars and now I am only getting 174 for it...does that seem right? It is broken and he said it would cost 72.00 to fix it.

So is Goldfellow still accepting jewelry right now? Are they the ones that are offering 10% extra to Disney members? If so, I went to their site and calculated the pennyweight and it looks like they would pay more than this jeweler.

What would you do with the diamond bracelet?

Lisa

You might want to call Goldfellow and ask them. I believe others have posted that sizable stones should be removed from the jewelry before shipping, if possible. You'll feel better when you get the information directly. :thumbsup2

got my goldfelow check today-385.00!!

and you should have been a fly on the wall to see my face when I opened what they returned to me as worthless!!

a pair of tricolored gold basketweave earrings that I had a hard time parting with because I thought they were a really great pair of earings-cheapo boyfriend!!!!

like 25 yearsago-- I got gold earrings and he got a sweater-didn't seem too fair at the time-hmm.........now I don't feel so bad hehe

Too FUNNY! I am still laughing -- you turned out to be the "big spender" on the sweater, the cheapskate!!! Glad you got your $$$.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to read every single post, but I was on here last week or so and remember a post about a company that gave at least partial credit for gemstones in gold jewelry. Can anyone tell me who that was? I just tried GoldFellow and wasn't very happy with the offer. I declined it and want to try someone else. I mean, there was nothing in my lot of rare, high quality, but it was 14K gold, and some pieces had some pretty valuable gems in them.

TIA!

I sent my stuff vis Fedex Fri to usgoldbuyers. They received the package on Monday, just got a phone call for permission to melt it down. They told me I would have an answer by tonight or tomorrow morning. Wahoo. Fingers crossed for a good payout.

Sounds like you and I are on the same delivery schedule. I sent my to USGB on Friday too, received confirmation that it was delivered at 9 am yesterday, but I haven't heard anything yet. Just to confirm, they asked you for permission to melt it down BEFORE they gave you the quote? Do you know how much your pkg weighed? I had heard that, with them being so overwhelmed, they might be sorting through for heavy pkgs. Good luck -- hope it's LOTS of money!:goodvibes

Thank you, OP for posting this, and everyone else for your tips and tricks. I got my settlement from Goldfellow, and it was actually more than I had calculated when I sent the package. We sent it FedEx yesterday, got the email settlement today. Now just have to wait on the check!

Hello Everyone :wave2:

I did call them about a diamond in a ring. They will take diamonds if over 3 points. I thought mine was a .25 but turns out it was .20. Didn't pay much on the diamond but I haven't worn it in years and didn't much care.

Good luck to everyone else waiting.:wizard:

I went back quite a few pages and this is all I could find about anyone buying gemstones...but like you, it seems to me like I remember a post specifically about that. It was Goldfellows that the above poster used. Before I sent my scrap gold to USGB, I popped out any of the stones that I thought were of any value.
Hope this helps.

USgoldbuyers is taking a long time to process... they received my package Friday AM and now it's Tuesday PM and I still have not heard from them. :confused3

Ok, I just got the phone call from USgoldbuyers...
drumroll please....

$ 2340.13

Can you say New furniture for my family room??

WAHOO....:dancer:

Goldgfellows recieved my package at 11:55 this AM. I mailed it friday afternoon. My check has been cut for 290.00 and is in the mail on the way to me. I have more to send but I wanted to see what the pay out would be before I sent it all.

Finally heard from Goldfellow. I sent 2 broken 18k chains, 3 broken 14k chains, 2 14k toe rings, and 3 sterling herringbone chains that I never wear. The gold chains were very lightweight. My settlement was $177.41, and $6.93 of that was for the silver. Not sure the silver is worth sending, but am otherwise VERY happy with this settlement. The items were sent in as kind of a test and I'll now be looking at what else I can send!!

I just sent off ( ok around 7pm ) my gold with Mr. Fedex....I watched him thru the side-window to see if he unwrapped my package and stuffed anything in his pockets....I am going to be on pins and needles till I see this was delivered....and then get a check for some moola....

I just wanted to post again and say nothing against Goldfellow but I sent pkgs to both, customer service was just fine at both for me, neither one better then the other but I do want to let everyone know that upon sending the 2nd pkg I did find out that USGoldBuyers pays considerabley more. Especially with the silver. GoldFellow pays 41 cents per penny weight and US GoldBuyers pays 70 cents, that is quite a difference. Just wanted to put this out there.

I sent mine out last Tuesday, and I still haven't heard anything. Guess they do care more if you send more gold.....

Sent mine out yesterday, they got it at 9 this morning. Hope to hear something soon, but I won't get my hopes up!

They received my package Wednesday and have yet to hear from them. I have called twice now and gotten the same response "You will hear something this week". Well that really narrows it down. Sorry folks but this "transaction" so far has left a bad taste in my mouth for USGB - I've been telling my friends to try one of the other places.
