I would love to know how to block trackers. I've been having trouble with the DIS and I suspect that it has something to do with some of the behind the scenes extras.I think so many young people are used to giving up their privacy, and some of us "old people" are wondering about the trade off. This reminds me of the trackers installed in visiting websites that CBS 60 minutes highlighted, they gave a website that you could install to block trackers. It shows how many trackers are blocked, I was more amazed at what websites I visit that have no trackers (like our High School) and fyi the disboards have 5 - where does this tracking info go? what does it mean? I have NO IDEA! lol
but still, it makes me wonder about the trade off to privacy, I know, who cares that there is a secret file on me that has all my info tracked and stored - what could it possible mean? I have no idea, I do know that ads are tracked this way,
On a place like the DIS, you get a large group of those who defend Disney at all costs too plus those who genuinely like FP+. I think that you're likely to see more extremes in a group of fans while those in the park are more forgiving if they even know anything about it.I personally don't believe it's 50/50 - I think it's the common case of a very vocal minority. People who have issues with things, whatever it is, are more likely to come out and express their concern. Whereas, when the fast pass plus system goes right, it's the kind of thing you might not even notice on your trip, and those that have positive experiences with it I likely won't say anything at all on forums such as these.
I could be 100% wrong, though! And either way, I'm not trying to take away from people who have expressed their opinion or bad experiences. I'm just saying angry people are louder than content people.
Yes, they have been tracking people but now they want to refine it. I'm not thrilled with the prospect.Disney was tacking us before MB's the KTTW cards had RFID's too. Not saying I am ok with it but it is not new.
You don't have to subscribe to logic to make it true. A truly accurate poll or survey doesn't just open up to anyone who wishes to respond because by-and-large you'll get bias. Unless it's a large, random sample, I don't take the results seriously. So when there is a poll, do you like or not like the new system only people who don't like it respond? I am on forums and facebook sites commenting positively quite often. Sorry I don't subscribe to that logic.

One more thing. Does anyone know if the privacy laws in the US permit such a vague statement at the end?
"The MagicBands can also be read by long-range readers placed in select locations throughout the Resort used to deliver personalized experiences and photos, as well as provide information that helps us improve the overall experience in our parks. Guests can participate in MyMagic+ and visit the Resort without using the MagicBand by choosing an RF Card, which cannot be detected by the long-range readers; however, certain features of MyMagic+ are dependent upon long-range readers, including automatic delivery of certain attraction photos and some personalized offerings are only available to guests using a MagicBand."
The bolded portion is the catch all - track everyone and see where everyone is going etc.
I don't think there are any privacy laws that will protect you from Disney's tracking devices. Basically, you are consenting to their policies and procedures by visiting their parks. It's the same as the ride pictures. I think the only recourse you have is using the KTTW card instead of the MB's

I'm saying the average angry person complains, and the average content person just goes on with their life.

But different people have different ideas for what FP+ should give. Us super users want it to give us as many FPs total. Some people just want it to give them 3 FPs, so they can sleep in, swoop into the park for those 3 things, and then go to an overpriced dinner.
And THAT is what Disney wants (a few rides, then a "dining experience").
It is clear that FP+ is perfect for people who go all the time, spends a full week at the resort, maybe even multiple times a year. They arent' looking for crazy theme park days filled with rides. They want to do their favorites, then spend their disposable income at the California grill.
We talk about the people that are completely out of the loop for pre-booking FP+s, those that just show up and buy tickets for their family that is staying at the Comfort Inn. I was one of those people back when my wife and I took our first pre-marriage trips to Orlando. And those trips helped solidify our love for Disney as our child grew up.
Now, however, those folks are out in the cold. You do what I did back then, and you will show up with FP+ options for Philharmagic and the Hall of Presidents, and meeting Ariel. Then long SB lines the rest of the day. That's not going to solidify Disney as a sentimental favorite in your relationship. It's going to make you feel you spent a lot of money for not much. And you won't even ride the rides you've heard about for years without long waits, during which you get angry because the good rides weren't even shown to you for FP+.
And folks seem to think those folks make up 50% of the visitors. Now, many of them back in the day were also saying "I wish we could afford to buy those FPs", but Disney wasn't running nationwide commercials about locking in FPs either.
My neice and her family are going in October. I tried to give them info, but I'm pretty sure they didn't realize that to get A&E FP+, they needed to be online at midnight 60 days out. And A&E are at the top of their list, since they have two little girls. They will likely be very turned off by FP+. Especially if they arrive at the park an hour after opening to find that even all the SB slots are filled for the day.

The standby+ test is not currently happening for A&E, last I heard. It is currently testing at Disneyland, but not anymore at WDW. Subject to change, obviously, but I'm going in November and I'm not worried about that.

the long range reader is a little disconcerting.
Like I said, content people don't take polls on forums and post on Facebook pages in nearly the numbers that upset people do. It's called self-selection bias.
I know that I was just answering someone else's questionThere is not a reasonable expectation of privacy when walking around a public theme park.
Yes, you can register tickets in MDE and then request KTTW cards instead of MB's. If you're staying off property, you don't get magic bands. Unless of course you pay for them.i see. so when your tickets end up on the KTTW, do they link them with the MDE?
we will be opting out of MB use.
