If you were on a standing room only bus and another person who was seated offered to hold you child, would you let them? Why or why not?

No way is a complete stranger putting their hands on my kids. Who knows where they have been and with Ebola and the D-68 virus that no way becomes a hell no!

Um, no, they can get up and give you both the seat.

I agree with this, which is what my husband did for a lady holding a toddler a couple weeks ago. While the offer may be well-intended, there are just too many unknowns for me to pass my child off to a stranger.

that would be an extremely odd thing to have happen.
i would think anyone that offers the seat would offer the entire seat to you and your child not their lap to your child.

it surprises me how few people actually do offer their seat to a person that is standing with a small child.
in july it was standing room only and next to me was a father holding his infant child and no one offered him a seat.

Got that offer on our 2013 trip. I declined. My son would not have gone anyway. He implemented a death grip as soon as he heard what she said.

Well........I did make the offer once and it was accepted. Now understand....I had a stroke, at a young age and while I have few side effects left, balance is an issue for me and standing on a bus is a bad idea for me. I have done it, but try to avoid it. We were on a very crowded bus, DS and DH were standing and I was sitting with little DS, then 5, on one knee. We were heading back to CSR from MK. There was a mom and a little girl about 5 standing right beside us and we had started to talk a bit. The child was tired and I told the mom I was not able to give up my seat but she was welcome to sit on my other knee if she wanted and they accepted. I talked to the mom, and the child talked to my DS. Now I really do not know if I would accept any situations of an offer and I know that neither of my boys would have ever been ok doing that , but really in that situation, it did not feel weird or wrong and we made a friend.

Situations like above is what I was wondering. I saw a post a while back from an older woman unable to give up her seat but said she would offer to hold someone's child as she couldn't stand on the moving bus. Was curious as to how many mom's would take them up on it. I had a 4 year old fall asleep on me once, the mom was mortified he just leaned on me and fell asleep. I on the other hand didn't mind, sometimes kids fall asleep in weird places, like mine with food in his hand in his high chair.

Actually a few years ago I did. We were on a standing room only bus on the way back to the hotel. My adult dd had my ds who was 3.5, my dh had the double stroller and diaper bag and I had my dd who had just turned one. I was holding her and standing. A older lady did not offer me a seat but offered to hold dd. I let her and I stood right there beside her.

At first I was like, no way in a million years. However, after reading some of the posts, I might consider it. My boys would not be comfortable with it, but I think if it were someone like the PP who also had her own child in her lap, it would not be as off-putting as I had originally thought. Obviously it is a well intentioned gesture.

Possibly. You are on a bus, escaping with someone else's child wouldn't be exactly easy. If I had already struck up a convo and I felt comfortable and my kids felt comfy I would be fine with it. I would stay right with them obviously and continue talking.

A lady did hold my son once on a Disney bus. Her husband had their toddler on his lap. A lovely Australian couple and we had a nice conversation as we rode back to the resort.

For whatever reason they may have, some people don't want to or can't stand so another parent/child can sit together but are okay to help hold a child. My mother would fall into this category.

Once again I find myself in the minority. I would definitely consider it and the circumstances at the time.
