Would you take a 2-year-old to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party?

Our son will have just turned 2 when we go to Disney World in November. I think he would love the party, but I'm concerned about it being past his bedtime, which is currently 7:30 p.m. Thoughts from veterans?

I took DD to the MNSSHP when she ws 23 months old. Her bed time was 8pm. She was so pooped from the week at the parks that she fell asleep during the first parade and was out for the rest of the party. I would say go if you want to go for yourself (and any other adults or older children traveling with you) but don't go if it is mainly for your 2 yo. That way if you DS falls asleep in the stroller you won't be upset and can still enjoy the party.

At that age , go for yourself. Though the 2 yr old will enjoy what they do see, at that age he will probably conk out and miss a good portion of the party

I would not have taken DS19 at two. He wanted and needed to be in bed asleep at 7:30. DS4, yep, would have taken him. A log afternoon nap and he would go strong to mid night. So depends on your child. We like the party but it was not a have to do it again for us.

We took DD just after she turned 2 and she loved it. Didn't fall asleep until we were heading to the bus at the night end of the night. We had a slow day that day though. Stayed at the resort and whatnot and then hit MK at about 4.

I took my DD when she was a little over 2. We all had a wonderful time and didn't leave until after the second parade. She absolutely loved Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas Show and the Dance Party with the Stepsisters! Of course we all took a nice nap before the show and we relaxed by the pool the next morning. Have fun!

Our daughter will be turning 2 just one week before our trip. We have decided to take her to the party. We just went to Hersheypark the other day and we spent 12 hours straight there and she did awesome. She didn't cry or whine or anything. I have high hopes that WDW will go as smoothly! I bought the MVMCP tickets for our arrival day then changed my mind about that. I thought about it and was afraid she'd be so tired from traveling that she wouldn't last for the party. We added on a night prior now so she can nap on party day. I hope it goes well! Good luck with your little one!!

We did, and it was worthless for her, and pretty much us too. I'd wait until 6 or so...she was just too tired.

We took DS4 to MNNSHP for his 1st, 2nd, 3rd birthdays and MVMCP just after his 4th...he had a GREAT time - when he was tired (usually around 10) - he just fell asleep in the stroller and we enjoyed watching the late night shows and hitting space mountain while he slept and there were no lines!!! We are going back again this fall and DS cannot wait!

DD was 4 months old during MVMCP - DH took her to meet the princesses when DS and I watched the parade (too crowded for DH/DD to see anyway) and she had a BLAST interacting with the princesses - so many smiles!

I think that the parties are what you make of them! If your kid is willing to crash out in a stroller - I'd say to go and have fun!!! Just plan some extra afternoon down time (really try to keep it stimulation free!) before hand and dont plan a rope drop for the next morning incase he does stay awake!!

We took our DSs in 2008; one had just turned 3 and the other was 5. They had about a 3-hr nap in the afternoon and we had an easy dinner at Pop food court, then hit the party around 7:30. Both guys made it until midnight and had a great time. We caught the 2nd parade and walked on any ride we wanted. Go. It's worth it for the fireworks and the Main Street snow!

Yes! When DS was 3, we took a very comfy stroller -- plenty big and comfy for falling asleep in. two nights we were out late while he slept in his stroller..... it was fun. can't do that now that he is 5....

The first time we went to MVMCP our kids were 2, 3, 4 and 7. They loved it! And still do, as we have been back to MVMCP and MNSSHP a number of times. The key to taking kids to these hard ticket events is to take a very long, late afternoon nap. In fact, when they were very small we didn't even do a park on Party nights, we just swam and hung around the resort and took late nape. Now that they are older we will go to the parks on a Party day, but only half the day and we still do late afternoon naps before MVMCP and MNSSHP. Does the trick every time and everybody always makes it to midnight :-)

My son was two this past december. although his normal time was 8 pm for bed, we took him to hte party and had a blast! he danced with woody, jessie and bullseye in frontierland, rode a ton of rides, LOVED the parade and we saw the fireworks during the dessert party - we left about 11 pm.

I'm debating about this in December too. DD will be 18 mos.

I would say if it's your "trip of a lifetime", do it.

But I've been to MVMCP twice before and this will be my 8th trip in 6 years so I don't mind missing out if I decide to keep her back at the hotel.

We took DS when he was 3 and he lasted until 11 and probably could've gone longer but it was Mom and Dad that were pooped!

I think it depends on your child. DD stayed up at 8months till about 9-930 when we went to Universal last year. never though that wold happen. She didn't go to sleep until she hit the bed in the hotel.

We are going to MNSSHP this Fall. We aren't going commando, taking our time again so I think/hope we have a night owl on our hand now. When there is stimulation she is awake and engaged and ready to go.

Just went this past December. Our youngest was 18 months old at the time. She was awake for about half of it and slept through the rest (fireworks and everything)

Being our third, she is very easy going and just goes with the flow.

My thought is that it is only a week of messed up nap/bed times. And you can always sleep in the next morning and get a late start.

Good question, my youngest will be 2 when we go back again. I want to go to MNSSHP and MVMCP to experience both holidays. I hope he will just go with the flow since his older brother will be 5 and his older sister will be 7.
