Would you still tip off-site?

I was thinking about staying off-site for this years vacation. I was wondering if the maid service off-site around Universal and Disney still expect to be tipped.

Any thoughts???? Thanks in advance.

I don't see what difference it made where ever you stayed. Someone has cleaned and picked up after you, being offsite doesn't make housekeeping exempt from a gratuity.

I always leave a tip daily for the maid service. Whether it's an expensive hotel or a thrift hotel I leave the same.

Tipping the help at hospitality places is worldwide, not just for USO and WDW... I've always done it no matter where I travel.

These people make next to nothing and I think it's the least they deserve.

We tip wherever we stay most of the time. Our last trip we had a housekeeping who would knock on the door at 7:45am!!! Then proceed to play dumb when we were upset. She did this 3 times!!! Even after we put out our do not disturb sign and complained!! I stopped tipping that trip-- I was soooo mad!! She's also the same one that wanted to clean our room on our checkout day before we left--- ummm does that mean you weren't going to strip it down before the next guests--- I was really grossed out.

If you are only staying one night, there is no need to tip. They are there before you come in and after you check out. If you are staying multiple nights, you probably should. For good service. They are not paid like restaurant servers. They make over the minimum wage (maybe not much) per hour. In my opinion a tip the first night makes for better service the rest of the stay.

Yes, we always leave tips for the housekeepers no matter where we are staying. We usually tip anywhere from $3-5 a day.

Is this an April Fools Question?

I sure hope so.

We requested not to have housekeeping during our entire stay.

But on the last day before checkout, we left a decent tip for housekeeping because they'd have to empty the dishwasher, change all the linens, etc..after we had left, so I felt we should.

Yes, you should still tip housekeeping off-site. I always leave a tip no matter where we are staying.

The tip should be left daily so that the maid who is doing the work actually gets the tip.

And I disagree with the poster who says not to tip if you only staying for one night. I don't tip so I can get good service. I expect the good service regardless of a tip. I tip as a thank-you, I don't expect anything extra from it.

Hope I dont start a huge debate here but Why should you tip someone that is doing a job they are being paid to do? I thought the people who were supposed to be tipped are people who dont make minimum wage.
I have stayed in a few tourist cities ( New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis, DC ) and the only place Ive ever seen an envelope requesting a tip was in Orlando. (Offsite)
The only place I have left a tip was on Disney property because they went the extra mile.
Sorry Im not going to tip someone for making my bed and emptying my trash can.

Techinically you don't have to tip housekeeping. They ARE NOT a "tipped" position. Meaning they make the standard minimum wage. I think it is all personal preference in regards to tipping. I don't think someone's in the wrong for not tipping. I don't always tip them. It's not the same as a server or another job that is dependent on tips as the bulk of their wages.

I work in a doctor's office, I too perform services for patient's, many as a courtesy because the patient's "don't want to" (I do the billing). I don't get tipped. It's a laborous job and something I'm doing as a courtesy. CNA's are "cleaning up after a person" they definetaly aren't getting tipped.

Tipping housekeeping is totally optional and should be a personal perference. I don't think you're right to tip nor not to tip. JMO!

I have never understood why you have to tip someone for doing their job. If you request extra service, then okay, but when all they do is the minimum I just don't get it. I wish restaurants would pay a decent wage and do away with tips.

When we were in Jamaica (a cruise stop) everybody wanted tipped and they came right out and asked. I know they are really poor but I still resented the fact that I was expected to tip them when they really did not do anything extra to earn it. I think a lot of people felt that way, and we just gave them a tip because we felt like we had to. We gave our cabin stewart extra because he did a great job, I never had to fill the ice bucket, and they clean your room twice a day. Of course when you go on a cruise you know what you are expected to tip, and they just charge it to you, but you can adjust it according to the service you receive.

Does anyone know if the mousekeepers at the luxury hotels make more than the ones at the value resorts?
