Would you still purchase if moving to Orlando?

Hypothetical for all you DVC members. I've read a lot of posts regarding people's general opinions regarding the value (or lack there of) when using WDW DVC points for vacations outside WDW, particularly with swaps for other popular travel destinations.

Assuming you lived outside of FL and did not own in DVC yet..., knowing what you know now and how you feel about DVC, would you still buy in if you knew you would be moving to Orlando specifically, within 6 months? Just curious of current DVC owner's personal feelings in such a hypothetical scenario. Thanks.

No I wouldn't.

With Florida resident discounts, and the current state of affairs with DVC, where I personally feel that the emphasis is on sales and not the current membership and that attitude is showing with recent changes to banking, booking out of DVC and the housekeeping and maintenance issues that are not being addressed, I would not buy.

I live an hour away from Orlando. We bought just over a year ago and have all of our points already booked for our 08 UY. The biggest advantage for my family is quick trips! We frequently go over and stay a few days during school breaks and it doesnt cost us much. We have FL ressie season pass and that works great! We have a trip planned in Dec to AKV for 2 short days, but for me its a great getaway. If we lived further we certainly wouldn't be able to do that. We have ESPN the weekend reserved next Feb/Mar for 3 days, and again, much to my DH's dismay, we couldn't do that if we lived further away. So, personally, I would definitely stll buy! WDW is a destination in itself whether you 1000 miles away or a county away!

personally, I probably would not, but it would have to be an individual choice
there are many places I go every year that are less than an hour way from my home and I stay over because sometimes it just really doesnt feel the same if you are not going to sleep and waking up there

if you are close enough to drive to WDW within a half hour or so would you still want to stay overnight several nights per year. or would you rather just sleep at home?

would you have any inclination to visit HHI, DL, or Hawaii on points because that could certainly make a big difference. a solid stay at any of those would mean you are only looking at a weekend here or there at WDW during those years

of course the amount of points plays a big role too, a small contract would be ideal if you are looking at a few single nights or very short stays here or there

We bought, thinking we would be moving to the Orlando area for retirement, (within 3 years) but we figured that our family would come and we would use the points. Vero Beach trips were very much in our plans. That scenerio is less likely now, so we are glad that we bought when we did, and we have added on accordingly.

We did it the other way around. We recently purchased a place in Orlando. We still have booked for June, six days with some friends. Even though our home is 20 minutes away (we live most of the year in PA), getting in and out on busy days is taxing, you don't get the perks, and when we do move to Orlando full time, we expect that we'll use our points at VB on short notice trips as well as having the points to use for guests for a few days.

I have thought about selling, but I want to give it a few years to see how we are able to use them.

We bought into DVC over 10 years ago, and moved to FL--about an hour east of Orlando--about 7 years ago.

In the 7 years we've been here, we've gone to OKW 10-12 times.

We feel that it's worth it just to have a change of scenery for a few days during the summer, school breaks, etc.

Thanks for the opinions folks, I appreciate it. In our case, we'll probably be moving back to the same development we lived in before which means we'll literally be no more than 10 minutes from WDW property (it was SO awesome).

Just can't decide whether buying in to DVC is the right choice for us at this time considering our circumstances, but we sooo want to. We'll be moving back and living within 10 minutes of World Drive and 12 minutes of Downtown Disney, plus there's a chance I'll be working for Disney, which means possible CM discount on DVC if we wait to purchase till then. However, nothing is written in stone yet and price can only continue to rise in the mean time, so I'm also affraid to pass up the current incentives for AKV ($8 discount /pt. PLUS 160 Dev. Points, plus no 07 Annual Fee but get full 07 pts.). Decisions, decisions... guess we'll figure it out one way or the other. Thanks again.

We live about 30 minutes from WDW and joined DVC in January. We pondered this very thought for close to 6 months but jumped on board when they had the 15 year anniversary incentive. Like several have already said, we love having DVC and being so close. Since joining we've done 3 long weekend trips and have our 4th coming up in November for our anniversary. That one is at AKV and we're REALLY excited to check it out. Staying on property is just a different experience for us, and one we obviously enjoy. Of course we also plan on spending time at Vero and whenever Hawaii comes online we'd like to try that as well. Based on what Disney has done and said so far it seems there will be more stand alone resorts like Hawaii in the future and that will open up your optins that much more.

Hope that helps and feel free to email me with any more questions.

We joined DVC in 2000 & purchased 200 points at BWV. In 2001 we added 150 points at HHI. In 2002 we moved to Central Florida. I recently added 175 points at SSR. We just love DVC and really believe in the product. :cutie:

We live under an hour from WDW and finally bought into DVC on 9/1. We're very sorry we didn't do it sooner and we are already looking to add more points. Like a previous poster, we like more frequent shorter trips. I like knowing that basically we have a mini vacation planned every 2 months. Even with being AP's and FL residents, we could not go as often as we are now. We have trips planned for 12/21 - 12/23, 2/8 - 2/10, 3/30 - 4/2, 7/3-7/5, 8/5-8/8. We would have NEVER done that before. And, we still have a ton of points left for 2007 UY. Every reservation I have called for, we got. The resorts are beautiful and we like knowing that we now have to slow down once in a while and take time for ourselves. Ds8 won't be little for long. I'm so glad that we are able to give him this experience too.
As far as waiting....
One of my coworkers worked for Disney up until last year. He was given a 30% discount on his DVC contract. So jealous of him. He's 24 and already paid off his 300 points!
