Would you recommend against MK on Mondays?

Im thinking that most people arrive for their Vacations on Sat or Sunday and Monday is probably a big MK day. Or am I wrong?

I have always avoided MK on Mondays (if possible), especially if they have EMH that day or it's a crowded week. We went one year during President's Week and I always remember sitting outside at the resort that Monday evening overhearing a lady on the phone. We had had the best-ever Animal Kingdom day, seeing and doing everything our hearts desired, and she was telling the person on the other end that they had gone to MK that day and it was a zoo. She said they only got on 3 attractions all day. Since then, whether it's just superstition or not, I have avoided MK on Monday if at all possible!

I don't have any source to back this up but I've heard that most people start their vacation on Monday and most people go to MK as their first park.

it also can depend on when you are going...for us, the end of our trip is when kids are out of school for Christmas, so doing MK early, even on the Monday is better than later.

But if you are going during any of the school breaks, avoid Mondays.

The crowd calendars usually show MK to be busy on Mondays. Not sure why, but when we are in WDW we avoid it. EMH are Sunday nights and the theory is to avoid those EMH days. I wonder if a lot of people skip the weekend days and then go on Monday.

As far as vacations, we usually go mid week to mid week. We fly and the rates are usually lower on those days.

See, I have actually heard that most people start and end their vacations on Saturdays and Sundays, and most people will start and end their vacation with MK thus making Saturdays and Sundays the busiest days. I've also heard that if you visit a park the day after it has EMH, it will be slow because everyone visits that park the day before to take advantage of EMH.

A quick glance at the EasyWDW crowd calendars shows MK as the most recommended day on Mondays every couple of weeks. So I'm guessing it varies, depending on what kind of events are happening, EMH, etc.

This. We fly in on Saturdays and MK is our first park -- we fly out on Sundays, and MK is our last park. :)

:thumbsup2 This is the way I've heard it described on sites like EasyWDW and Touring Plans. And even in Columbus Day week when I'm going, Monday is still listed as a good day for MK (maybe not the BEST park, but not a red day)

We avoid Mondays too. The last time we went on a Monday was in Oct a few years ago. DD was old enough that I thought she'd love the ferry ride so we drove to MK from our resort. We waited 20 mins in line to park, then we waited 45 mins to board the ferry. The lines for the monorail were no quicker. CM's were giving out stickers and offering to spray people with mister fans. We made it to our lunch ADR with 5 mins to spare, ate lunch and hopped over to Epcot for the rest of the day because we could hardly get around the park.

Apparently, it was a FL school vacation day and alot of camps, groups & organizations planned a day at MK. It wasn't the first time we experienced a busy Monday at MK, but it was the last (& worst).

Don't forget MK EMH have been recently moved on most weeks from Sun to Sat. With this, assuming no MNSSHP or MVMCP, I would say

Sat >>>>>>> Mon>Sun, with it varying by week depending on MSEP and Wishes frequency. Just a guess that Mon would be a touch buiser than Sun, but no data to support this.

I went on a Monday at the beginning of May when they had EMH. Honestly, it didn't seem as busy as when we went on Friday morning/afternoon.

Maybe it was our schedule, but we got there around 8:45 AM, were able to meet Donald and Daisy with hardly any wait, and were able to go on the low key rides in Dinoland. Our FP for EE was a bust due to it closing down, but we got to go on it later. We used that time to check out Rafiki's Conservation Center. We then did our Dinosaur FP and the Dinoland Dance Party. We were able to get on EE at this point and afterwards we explored Asia. We did our last FP to the Finding Nemo Show and had lunch after that. We also were able to view the bird show, see the parade, It's Tough to be a Bug, meet Minnie and Mickey, then explore the Pangani (sp?) Trails.

We did the safari the previous day and met some character as well.

But people often travel those two days so they may not be at the parks at all those days!

I just checked the calendars for August through January, and for the most part, the only Mondays where MK is the most recommended is when there's either a MNSSHP or a MVMCP, and those don't occur on Mondays very often, so I don't see where you're seeing every couple of weeks.

Also, Josh's reasoning for generally not recommending Mondays for MK is that a lot of people start their vacations on Sundays, and want to do their first full day at MK.

I'd say the highest percentage of WDW visitors are from the the East coast or within a reasonable distance to WDW. These travelers often have shorter flights and will choose the first flight in and the last flight out. This gives them at least a half day in the park. If I had to guess, I would guess that anyone arriving before 3pm would try to get at least a few hours in a park. And many choose to begin at MK. Similarly, anyone leaving after 1pm I'd guess would try to squeeze in some more park time too. Especially since the cost to add another ticket day is minimal.

Here in Buffalo, TONS of people travel to WDW during school breaks, etc. We also get all the folks from Southern Ontario out of our airport as well. The early flights and late flights on Saturdays/Sundays on both JetBlue and Southwest are always the most expensive and first to book up.

Monday September 1st
Monday October 13th
Monday November 10th
Monday November 17th

....the list goes on. Very literally, every couple of weeks. My point was that not EVERY Monday makes MK the worst recommended park. It truly varies, so it's not worth ruling out MK on Mondays, especially if it fits your schedule.
