Would you pay to ride the monorail?

Under no circumstances. I ride the subway with the gates and the farecards at home. Not doing it there

No. It's not free now! We're already paying for it in the overall costs associated with visiting WDW.

Well, it is about as reliable when it comes to breaking down and delays as my commute on the NYC subway system and NJ Transit, so no I wouldn't pay on vacation to deal with my daily at home stress.

HAHAHAHA YES!

:offtopic: bus from Port Authority to my town in NJ was an hour and a half late the other night, was supposed to take bus at 10, didn't leave until 11:30 pm :crazy2:

Since we're technically already paying for it, no I would not pay even more to ride it. Though I would like it expanded.

Been there my friend, can relate. Track fire a few weeks ago caused me to taxi Manhattan to central NJ. Not cheap!

Back in the day... 70's, only way to ride monorail or any Disney transportation was to either be staying at a Disney Resort ( we're only 3 back then ) or have park admission ticket....

I would pay for it to be removed and to have MK work like the other parks - to have an ability to walk from the parking lot to the gate with no need for ANY extra transport. The arrival and departure from MK is miserable, especially on crowded days. I'd pay to not have to go through that.

Rasulo, are you starting threads on here again.....?

Many years ago, they did sell tickets for it. I remember in the way back machine when busses were just for resort guests and you had to flash your resort ID to get on them. Same deal, I think for the monorail as no ticket required if staying on property.

I think Disney did away with it for a reason and do not see them charging for it.

No.

And quite frankly, like many posting here, we have experienced enough long delays, even the relatively few times we've ridden, to sometimes feel as if Disney should be paying us to ride the Monorail.

Even though we stay at Bay Lake, we avoid the Monorail as much as possible. Walking to the MK is faster.

And after many horrible bus experiences our last visit, we will be using a rental car for a few days to see if we like doing so.

The cost to Disney for inconsistent transportation service (some might say, "Consistently bad transportation.") - with a car, we now have easier access to Swan & Dolphin Signatures and newly opened restaurants at Four Seasons.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the FP+ system was an expense incurred by Disney to keep me off of lines to spend more money, then Disney could certainly do more to get me into and out of the Parks faster to spend more money.

I would only if the buses were removed or no longer free. In that case, someone coming from a distance would either have to pay to rent a car or pay to ride the monorail between parks, so the latter would be better for us.

If I was staying on site... no way. Off site - maybe

Interesting responses I figured with all the bus hate and huge desire for monorail expansion the answer would be more 50/50.

In this scenario is the bus still free? If so- no I would not pay to ride the monorail.

I think the Tokyo monorail costs because it is illegal to offer that kind of service without a fee in Japan- at least I read that a few times in articles.

Correct. The TDR monorail does cost money and you can per-use tickets for about $2.50 or day passes for $6.50. They also offer multiday passes, but I forget the cost. Once a train system has more than one stop it becomes a transportation system by Japanese law and charges must be levied.

Along these same lines, the Western River Railroad--TDL's version of the railroad that goes around MK And DL--only has one stop (to avoid costing more) and encircles only a portion of the park.

Yes - Charging would keep ridership down, so I would pay.

Definitely does at TDR. :thumbsup2

If the monorail went to all parks not only would I pay for it but I would be sure to stay at a monorail resort. I haven't had horrible experiences in the monorail.

I like the buses,of course there's been a couple bad experiences but I have probably had several hundred if not a thousand plus bus trips at WDW and they run fine most of the time and get you were you need to go.Monorail is expensive, room prices show that,I'm not paying more to ride the monorail!!!!There's been a couple threads talking about how they had to wait a long time for a bus at park closing,MK gets long lines for the monorails at closing as well so those are crowd issues and not bus issues.Having a new nighttime show at AK is something that's gotta help with crowding at the end of the day.

Me too.

My gut reaction was "no" , but I think that's more a general preference for the status quo (I.e. I hate change!) but really, if it ran everywhere I bet I'd think of it as similar to a subway/EL in any other city and be willing to pay a nominal charge for it.

No way. If something breaks down then you are stuck and everyone behind you is stuck until it's fixed. I hate riding it now!

And there's no such thing as 'no maintenance problems' - it's a machine - no matter how well it's maintained it will break down unexpectedly for some reason (flock of birds decides to roost on the rail, for example).
