IIRC, Jiko's appetizer's are pretty small. They could "eat", but it would end up like that credit card commercial where the couple raids the convenience store after their fancy dinner :lmao:.

FWIW, I do agree with others that Boma has been a lot better in the past. The soups, for instance, used to be out of this world. Now they have a chemically/starchy/silky undertaste to them as if they replaced roux with guar gum and corn starch. Luckily, the rest of the food is just as good as it was before.

I think that poster meant entrees - Jiko's entrees are within that range. We did Jiko, with wine and appetizers, for less than $100. It wasn't too pricey really.

I really love hearing everyone's thoughts on it - thanks again! :goodvibes

My "flame-worthy" restaurant dislikes include Le Cellier and Liberty Tree Tavern. LTT ... now, there was a waste of $100!

Oh, I hated LeCellier. It was terrible quality and even worse service!

I also think Tonga Toast is disgusting and dripping in lard

If you like Jiko and you like Ruth's Chris and are expecting that sort of food quality from Boma, you'll be very disappointed. Boma is a great value in a buffet - lots of variety and a TON of food, but to me you sound like a couple that would be happier with a smaller quantity of high quality food. In the end, Boma is a buffet. Decent quality for a buffet (beats Chef Mickey's) and an extensive selection, but its a buffet.

To me you sound like people who can budget and share your way through a excellent meal - and prefer that to having huge quantities and a variety of good food.

k I am prob the oddball but we didn't like it very much. I would not pay OOP on it. There was not alot we liked and I am not really picky.

Now that I think about it we are from Louisiana so that may be why we did not care for it much. I can get alot of the same or similar types of food (better in some cases) quite a bit around here.

We think Boma is well worth the money:thumbsup2 The buffet has a wide variety of things to eat. It's really a unique dining experience:goodvibes

It's become our new favorite restaurant, even upstaging our beloved O'hana! We now eat there at least once every trip, the food is so interesting and yummy, much different than what we could get at home.

Boma gets a lot of good reviews here. Its certainly a different buffet so if you want to try something new, this is it.

As to your price question, you don't mention how many in your party but I seriously doubt that you could "almost" do Ruth's Chris for that money. In the end, you'll have to decide for yourself if its worth it.

Boma is a must do for us every trip. It is the only place DH ever asks me to make ADRs. We just ate there last Wednesday - it was wonderful! Our server brought DH the recipe for the Tunisian couscous that he loved, DD8 tried lots of things she couldn't pronounce and actually enjoyed them, and DD5 ate tons of fruit like she does everywhere (she's a bit picky ;) ), so she was happy. Afterwards we walked around the resort and looked at the animals. Our next trip will be to AKL, and we enjoyed our sneak peek!

We typically don't make ADRs for buffets unless the goal is to see a particular character. Boma is the exception - we really enjoy the atmosphere and the food.

It is almost universally cheaper to eat outside the World. Boma was not any more expensive than our other onsite table service meals, and we enjoyed the variety and the flavors. Totally worth the premium for us.

Hi
I know I'm in the minority, but we didn't like Boma. I was excited about going there, since I don't eat meat, and they have a lot for vegetarians. But the food was lukewarm and everything tasted sweet. My girlfriend liked the Prime rib and I liked the butternut squash soap. That's about all we liked. I was even disappointed in the Zebra domes. My girlfriends DD and her boyfriend liked it, but we all said we wouldn't go back. The AKL is beautiful though and worth seeing.

We LOVE Boma. We generally eat there every other time we stay overnight at Disney. When we asked DD(4yrs old) what she wanted to do for her birthday (April 24), she thought for a second and said, "I want my party at Boma, and I want Mommy, Daddy, [her brother], [her uncle], [her best friend and friend's parents], and her grandparents." It's her favorite place to eat (O'Hana and the Biergarten are tied for second) and it's my favorite too. You can get so many different things there, whether you are in a meat and potatoes mood, or a soup, salad, and fish mood, or a pig-out-on-dessert mood. Of course, I just pig out on everything. Our one rule about the kids eating at Boma is that they don't know the kid's dishes exist. We fix their plates of food (nothing from the kid's bar is allowed) and they have to try everything. DD's favorite is the prime rib, and DS (2yrs old) is the salmon baked in banana leaves. We get our money's worth there.

Well our little family of 3 dined at Boma for $100. No joke. We were not on the DDP, and actually Boma was our only onsite meal. For us it was well worth it for the food, the atmosphere, and the experience. Its definitely not something you get at home, and what could be better than strolling around AKL before you eat? We absolutely loved it and did not regret spending $100 on dinner. But its definitely not something we'd do more than once during one trip, lol.
