Would you let your daughter dress up in a boy costume?

Nothing wrong with it at all. She's 3.5!

Tim's DS3 wears his sisters princess dresses, but still goes out and plays football with his brother all the time!

Letting your child express themselves is the best type of guidance a parent could give. As long as it's not hurting themselves and anyone else (which it isn't) what's wrong with it? It's an outfit.

I'm sure she'll be a really cute spiderman! Post pictures :)

Of course -- if a child can pretend to have spider power and climb walls, why on earth wouldn't I let them pretend to be the opposite gender?

There's an amazing children's book, Amazing Grace, that deals with the issue of a little girl who wants to be Peter Pan in the school play and gets teased because she's neither male nor white, but ends up getting the part and showing everyone how talented she is. Maybe read that with your daughter in case she gets comments.

There's also a sequel called, Princess Grace. It's about the school's parade and it usually has a float with one "typical" princess on it and Grace and her friends start to question why it has to be just one girl from one class and why it has to be the typical princess with a crown and frilly dress. It's a very good book. (There's also Boundless Grace about having to deal with blended families - not relevant to this thread but we are big Grace fans and thought I'd share :))

This is a picture of my dd two years ago at age 9. This year she is going to be the Yeti from EE. She has also done some more girly costumes. Belle, a witch, a girl pirate.

BWAAA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAA :lmao: I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I ever wore a "girly" costume as a child. I can remember dressing up as Dracula, a cowboy, superman and Darth Vader. Last year my sons were dressed as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. I took them trick-or-treating dressed as an Imperial Officer. It was fun to get to call them rebel scum. :lmao:

I agree with everyone. DD12 was Bear in the Big Blue house at MNSSHP when she was 3 and she was Jack Sparrow last year. Heck we even dressed our male dog as Tinkerbell one year to match dd's costume. Let her be who she wants and have fun!!!

For halloween our DD (3.5) is in LOVE with spiderman. Would you let your daughter dress up as a boy costume for halloween? Can you think of any way to make it more femine? Maybe some wings or a crown or something??

They do have spider girl costumes but I would most certainly let my DD dress up in a "boy" costume.

Awww I miss Bear in the Big Blue House. I bet your DD looked adorable!

Of course let her. I wouldn't add anything like a wig or wings unless she specifically asked to have those. I sure wouldn't get a spidergirl outfit again unless your DD said that's the outfit she wants. She's said she wants to be spiderman and I'd let her.

My DD4 was obsessed with Thomas the Train at age 2, and my MIL was horrified that's all she wanted for Christmas. It was for boys! Oh my. Who cares? She still plays with the tracks and loves Thomas. She is really into the How to Train your Dragon movie and I couldn't find anything in the girl's section so over to the boys we went and found a great t-shirt she loves. I don't get too worked up over gender specific items, if my child wants to wear men's underwear 20 years from now, well good for her. She'll be the one paying for them then! Woo hoo! :thumbsup2

Because they only have to worry about "boxers or briefs" we've got tons more than that! :rotfl:

My dd5 is going as Buzz lightyear. It would be terrible to tell her she couldn't be what she wanted because it is a boy's costume.

DD5 just informed me that the only way she will go out trick or treating is if she could be Mike Wazowski so I put the order in this morning lol, it'll be cute.
