Would you let your daughter dress up in a boy costume?

My little boy, who is two and a half, is nuts about being a ladybug for Halloween, so a ladybug he shall be!

I agree with the other posters: if you add anything to make the costume feminine, you are sending the message that she can be whatever she wants, within the limitations of society's gender standards. We have so much against us as women in this world; give your daughter the confidence to overcome gender construction!

My little boy has a pink vacuum cleaner and enjoys having a fingernail painted every now and then. I definitely don't think any of that means he is gay or straight; he is what he is, and he knows what he likes. He is also doted upon by a stay-at-home dad, so defying gender limitations is typical around here.

I hope you post pics of that precious little spider girl! Peace.

it is a COSTUME, the gender doesn't matter, and acting like it does could accidently send the wrong "message" to your daughter. Let her dress however she wants and don't try to "feminine it up" at all.

I think it is cute!

Absolutely! One year my DD wanted to be a pirate and she was. A clerk at Kmart told me how cute my son was, and I said thank you. It definitely didn't bother me or her. She was about 2 at the time. And in first grade she wanted to be Buzz Lightyear, so she was. Fellow classmates tried to convince her that Buzz was supposed to be a boy but she thought that was preposterous.
People think my DD is a boy all the time. She's 17 months old & still has very short, fine hair so that probably has something to do with it. It doesn't bother me, but even when she's wearing pink people still refer to her as "he." :rotfl:

She's going as a flapper girl for Halloween this year (our choice), but next year she'll probably be old enough to choose her own costume & can be whatever she wants.

For halloween our DD (3.5) is in LOVE with spiderman. Would you let your daughter dress up as a boy costume for halloween? Can you think of any way to make it more femine? Maybe some wings or a crown or something??

Awe how cute! Let her be herself, she is clearly a very strong young lady. = )

Last year DD wanted to be Mickey. I couldn't find Mickey, so I got her Minnie. This year she wanted to be Mickey again so I ordered from the Disney store. She is only three, so if being Mickey this year is important to her, I want her to get to do it.

I LOVED spiderman when I was a little girl too. Most girls rode around on their pink, frilly bicycles but I think they were all jealous of my Spiderman BigWheel!!:rotfl:

When my DD was three, I wanted her to be Tinkerbell...made all of her costumes, had the patten picked out, etc...she insisted on being Peter Pan. I gave in and so glad I did. She made an awesome Peter Pan. Now she is about to turn 21 and I am feeling sentimental. Wonder if she would let me dress her as Tink this year?:tinker:

When my daughter was 2 she was Tigger, at 3 she was a horse. Someone actually said "what a cute aardvark":confused3
We still laugh about that one. Atleast Spiderman is recognizable. Have fun, its Halloween:thumbsup2

I agree that you should let your DD be Spiderman. The PPs who posted the suggestion were well-intentioned but please don't get her a Spidergirl costume if she really wants to be SpiderMAN. She'll know the difference. She'll be such a cute Spidey!

Yes, I'd let my DD be Spiderman if she wanted to. And to be honest it wouldn't surprise me if mine wanted to. LOL.

Heck, I'm dressing up as Slash from Guns N Roses for Halloween. :rotfl: Who would I be to judge? When my mom was a kid, she wanted to be Superman when she grew up. Whereas I wanted to be Jessica Rabbit when I grew up. Now there is something to maybe worry about. :lmao:

When my DD was a baby she had some crazy hair so one halloween I bought a little suit for $20, a clip on tie that had bills all over it and a bottle of hairspray and she went as Donald Trump. She was nearly 2 then and I figured it would be the last time I would be able to pick out her outfit. She loved the attention she got from our neighbors.

This year my little girlie girl 5yo neighbor is going as a hockey player and she is super excited. I think it will be the first time I see her not wearing a dress LOL!

What everyone else said.

When my DS was 4, he dressed as a girl for Halloween. He wore an outgrown Hanna Andersson dress/leggings outfit from his older sister, a curly wig, and a matching Gymboree bow! "She" looked SOOO cute! People who didn't know us, really thought we had a little girl with us who didn't have a costume! He was inspired by my DH telling him that he dressed as a woman once for Halloween while in college! :) He even wore it for the preschool parade. We took lots of pictures and plan to use them at his wedding rehearsal dinner! (He's 9 now, so it will be a while.) It was what he wanted to wear and he had fun doing it. I like to think that he'll be a more sensitive boyfriend, husband, and father one day as he observed that "dresses are hard to sit down in" after spending the day at preschool dressed in costume. :rotfl:

I should add that my oldest DD wants to be Michael Jackson for Halloween this year. I never even questioned it, just need to figure out how we'll make it happen.

my dd is a severe girly-girl and she chose to be Captain Hook this year. I never gave it a thought until I read several thread on different forums this week.

Too late now, my mom's already sewn a gorgeous Hook costume.

This is a picture of my dd two years ago at age 9. This year she is going to be the Yeti from EE. She has also done some more girly costumes. Belle, a witch, a girl pirate.

I agree I see no problem with it. I have to be honest. my dd who is now 5 has been obsessed with cars for like 3 years. She wants cars underwear so we had to buy boy underwear and she has worn boy shoes b/c that is what we could find in the cars theme. Oh and her bedset is still cars. Also, I wanted to add that one time in preschool the teacher happened to see that she was wearing boys underwear(she was in a school for children wish disabilities) and my girl proudly said "well I love cars and they just dont make them in girls

Here is a picture of her wearing an outfit she picked out

Her last 2 birthdays have been Cars themed and we had a dress made just for her. You can't tell but she has matching bows in her hair
