Is this for a special occasion...? an innocent question but...

Have you ever been asked this or Are you celebrating anything? while working on a reservation with Member Service?

It happened at least twice and I felt awkward both times. My real answer would have been No....I just want to go or I'm addicted to Disney but I said something like I am celebrating Disneyland 70th!

Were they going to pixie dust me? Being nosy? I wondered that later.

At the time I felt sorta weird like I don't have a good enough reason & like I want to hide the fact that I felt a bit spoiled and yet quite excited at the same time. 😬

Has this happened to you? How did you feel if you weren't celebrating anything special?

They will incessantly ask you if you’re celebrating anything, it’s getting getting out of control. In the last week I think I was asked multiple times. What used to be something special is now just annoying.

It's a very normal question they ask. No, it's not likely that you'll get any pixie dust when you go.

I have been asked that question a number of times in the past, and that is because, if it is a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, something else, they may suggest you can possibly add things to the reservation to help you celebrate, which, of course, cost extra money to get.

Yep, I’ve been asked lots of times & always say no because we never are celebrating anything, however, this fall I have family joining me who have never been to WDW, so I told the CM who asked that we were celebrating their first visit :).

It's just a question. If you are, you are. If you're not, you're not. If you are, say yes and what it is if you want. Or just say no if you don't want to let people know.

Sometimes things happen, sometimes they don't. But nothing will happen at all recognizing it if you don't say anything.

We've been "pixie dusted" when celebrating with a pin (which, of course, anyone can get for free)...

You'll often get Birthday/Anniversary greetings if you identify that you're celebrating. They don't typically bring a free dessert at restaurants or anything like that because it would quickly get abused.

Noted celebrations can show up on the TV screen welcoming you to the resort and even the LL tap points. CMs can say "Happy Birthday NAME" if it's attached to a reservation/profile.

I imagine that it's a required part of their spiel, like when the grocery cashier asks "Did you find everything that you were looking for?". Except at Disney you might actually get a better response than the "deer-in-the-headlights" look you get when you tell the grocery cashier "No I did not find what I was looking for."

I would say required part of their script. If you say yes you may get a pin at check in. If not you can ask for one. My experience has been if you are celebrating you are more likely to get pixie dusted if you don’t advertise it. It is in your file even if you don’t wear a pin. With the pin on we got a lot of happy birthday from CMs. Without it we got some crazy pixie dusted. I would never expect pixie dust either way, everyone is celebrating something.
