Would you go in August? We've always gone in off peak times, Nov., Feb., June. Now my son is in school and we're more restricted. We're thinking of Aug. 20 - 25, I know it's summer and the free DDP. Will the heat and crowds be horrible??

Would I go?YES, that's why we are already booked for 8/27-9/4.We went in the off season and it was nice not hot and not crowded but my 5&6 year olds missed alot of school work and boy did they get hit hard with"make-up" work before and after! I know it will be hot and crowded but I'll just think that I'm at our county fair in NY where it's also hot humid and crowded! :thumbsup2

Hello Bucks Co from a neighbor to the south! We went last August having never gone during the summer months. As you know it was HOT here last summer and we thought might as well be hot at the pool in WDW rather than hot here by the pool. We found that our heat tolerance wasn't as good as we thought it would be. I think if you can tolerate the heat and more importantly the extreme humidity then go and have a good time. We found that the pool was not much of a relief since the water was really really warm. I doubt we will return in August but if we do we would do the parks in the morning and then spend some time in the room, at DQ or some other indoor A/C location. Bottom line. . . how much heat/humidity can you tolerate and still have a good time. By the way, the weather in NO WAY ruined our vacation . . . we are of the mindset that you have to work really hard to have a bad time at Disney! Good luck with your decision . . . I think you'll get a pretty varied response.

yes we would go and are going in august. We usually stay the last 2 weeks of august and the crowds have not been bad and the weather seems no worse then any other time.

We were there last year, arriving Aug. 19th, and we're starting our vacation this year on the 20th. It's the time our Boston branch of the family could get away.

We had a great time last year, I didn't mind the heat, but we had some serious thunderstorms. These weren't every day, I can remember a bad one on Wednesday, I really don't remember the heat, just the rain. We had a great day at TL, and very good park days/nights, so I think it's a good time to go.

Bobbi :)

PS. we lived in Yardley Hunt before moving to Ohio.

We have been there a couple of times that time of year, and the crowds aren't bad, but the heat, humidity and rain are daunting!

We usually go in July but this year we are going in Aug. The last time we were there in Aug. it was hotter in NY than at WDW! We are expecting heat, but as long as you are prepared for it, it will be fine. I'd rather go in the heat than not at all. You will enjoy it.

We've gone in August...no problem. Yes, it's hot but it's hot here in St. Louis too in August. :sunny:

Yes, it's crowded but if you use the FastPass system, don't do the commando touring dusk to late night thing, and use common sense about drinking water, it's not too bad. The parks are open late, and virtually all of the attractions are open as they do the rehabbing of those during off-peak times of the year.

If heat is a major concern, then WDW in the summer can be a challenge. Every trip of ours has been in the summer months and we've had a great time. Good luck! :)

We go pretty regularily during August since our kids have gotten to middle/high school age. It's just too difficult for them to try and make up the work in off season (though we prefer those times).

But overall, crowd-wise, we've seen just as large, if not larger, crowds during F&W Festival in November as we have in August. Yes, it's hot and humid, but it's the same in Philly at that time so we're pretty much aclimated to it. Yes, there are those afternoon thunderstorms but we expect them and don't fret over it. Our strategy is to get to the parks early (utilize EMH when possible), then leave to go back to the resort/pool in the heat of the afternoon. Plan a nice sit down dinner somewhere and then head back to the parks after 6 pm. This works for us. We'll be in WDW Aug 5-16 this summer.

Another family here that visits in August. We will be down 8/6. Just be prepared and you will be fine. Take afternoon breaks - relax at your resort or pool.

We were there the exact same time as bobbiwoz last year. The crowds were very light and we were able to tolerate the heat. Of course, we have a high heat tolerance. I do agree that the pool water was warm. We made sure that most of our park time was in the evenings when it was cooler and not during the early afternoons when the weather is at its worst.

As our children are getting older, we find that we really can't take them out of school for our trips. We love May, but it is too hard. We just took our last May trip until it is just me and hubby traveling alone.

We do Aug-Oct and Jan sometimes. Since we go every year we like to get up have breakfast and go to a park then go swim and relax in the afternoon and then back to a park for a little bit. Owning DVC and knowing you 'll be back for years its easier to not wear your self out in the heat.

This is the 3rd year in a row that we're going in August. As others have said, the heat and humidity in NY during August is similar. We really like to swim so we spend a good deal of time at the pools. It can be hot mid-day, but there's usually a thunderstorm around 3 to cool it off slightly. The EMH nights were the best time for us to go to the parks, though we did do some mornings too. The last week of August seemed a lot less crowded than when we were there the last week of Feb.

We usually go the first 2 weeks in August but this year just the 2nd week. Sure, it is hot.........it is in Boston too...........sure it rains..........it is usually short lived rain though.

We love it...........we spend all of our time in the pool or water parks!!
