Would you ever buy a home which had a *murder* in it?

There is a very exclusive (a/k/a, expensive) condo complex near where I work. There was a young women murdered in her unit (stabbed by a jealous ex of an soon to be dh). Every day I drive by and get the "whilly's" wondering who, if anyone ever bought her home.

No matter how good the price, I don't think I could ever buy a home where a murder took place.......

No, but then again...is that something the seller discloses? Who would think to ask?

I think about that too.

There is a rental by my moms that a girl was shot and killed by an Ex and that place is rented. I cant even imagine **shudder**

isn't odd most will say noway becuase it recent, but if there was a murder from the 1700-1800's it would be historical

It would depend on if there had been unusual occurence (ie. ghosts, unexplained noises) reported by the previous owners.

If there were and these things were nuisances or acting like they wanted to hurt the people, then no.

Otherwise, I would. I would really not hesitate to buy a haunted house if the haunting was harmless. I also would not be freaked out about a murder having occurred there.

Things like this can drive down the cost of an otherwise expensive home. I'd do my research but if I felt safe in it, I would go for it.

In fact when BF and I start looking into buying a home (way off in the future...I mean, I'm 28 now, we're talking maybe when I'm 38 I'll be okay to buy a home) we actually discussed looking for homes like this, not because we're morbid but because so many people are weirded out by it, that we may be able to geta home we otherwise might not be able to afford.

I *think* sellers are required to tell. I could be wrong, but I think they have to mention things like this.

LOL! That's true, Monkeyboy. However, I wouldn't be buying an old house either for that reason alone! You never know. I'm happy knowing my home was built in 1993! :)

The only things that would keep me away from a house would be...a little red room in the basement...unexplained swarms of flies in a closed room...mysterious phone calls...and Jodie the pig's red eyes in my window!!!!

Still not over The Amityville Horror, as you can tell. :teeth:

Thanks! I sure would hope so. But it must make it difficult to sell. Guess that brings in Monkeyboy's mentioning that people will buy it if it's the right price.

I would in a heartbeat, and if the spirit of the ones who died are still there, then maybe I could make use of them somehow :)

Someone was killed in the first house my sister bought. This man had gone crazy and was holding his wife (or girlfriend - can't remember exacts) hostage. The swat team surrounded the house. He wouldn't let her go so they charged the house and busted in the back door and shot him in the head. When she went to look at the house I remembered that it was that same house. Everytime I visited I told her I was trying to feel for any strange vibes! :teeth: Nothing weird ever happened there though.

We did:

We brought a house that when we were looking at it I opened a closet door and got a wierd feeling. I didn't say anything at the time. We asked to go back and see the house again a second time while there I asked the RE agent if anything ever happen here. They were being less than honest at that time. The listing agent and our agent were friends, the owner of the house was a very good friend of the listing agent.

He wanted the house sold, he lived now in another state and had rented out the house to a family and well the step kids killed their stepfather on the front stairs.

My agent asked me what I meant and I told her that I get a feeling like someone was killed here. She just looked at me. Finally they had to disclose to us what had happened 2 years earlier. We still brought the house (the murder took place in the front of the house) But eveyone that owned the house before us had extremely bad luck. (One family their son was killed just a mile from the house) We sold it 5 years ago and the family that brought it had a priest come and bless the house. I no longer live around there so I don't know how they're doing.

I think I'd secretly be a little dissapointed if I bought a house that had had a murder in it and it wasn't haunted! I know, I'm weird.

I have a friend whose DS died in their home. Everytime I go to their house, this is the first thing I think about, a get a very sad feeling being there. I don't know that I could get past the sadness of such a horrible thing happening in a home I wanted my family to be happy living in.
