Would you do GF if it was just $100 more than Poly?

We have a good deal through a relative who works at WDW. She is getting us 4 nights at the Poly for $1,079 (tax included)
She just told us that she could get us the GF for $97 more.(Both garden views) We are pretty set on the Poly but thought we would ask here what others would do. We have never stayed at either resort before.

We've stayed at the GF and it's like nothing else. The atmosphere, the service...

I'd stay at the GF, personally, but I've never stayed at the Poly, so I can't compare.

Stick with the Poly! After your 1st visit you will be hooked!!!! I couldn't say the same for my club level visit at the GF-not the same. And we didn't get that warm,I'm @ disney fuzzy feeling. JMHO

We have stayed both and we deffinately prefer the Poly.. We always stay concierge and switch up views depending on when we are going. They are both wonderful resorts. But to us the GF is just too stuffy. It's beautiful and service is wonderful. But the kids just seem to enjoy themselves more at the Poly as do my husband and I. It all boils down to a preferance thing. But we love the pools, resturants, fireworks, activities and area.

We enjoyed our stays at both resort, so we would say you are fine either way. Its a choice between Polynesian or Victorian coupled with a few tailored resort offerings (i.e. PR luau GF Wonderland Tea Party, etc, etc).

You stated you are pretty set on the PR so I would continue your plans to stay at the PR.

We did one time and never again.

We wanted to stay at the GF one time. Our favorite is Yach / Beach Club and Wlderness Lodge.

So on our last trip down with the extended family, we spent 7 days in a Marriott time share, and 3 days by ourselves at the GF.

We could never get into relaxation mode there. We felt we were always being judged because we were not dressed up everywhere we went. It's just a snooty atmosphere there...not by the cast members, but by the guests.

The Poly hands down!!!

The standard views at the GF are not exactly worth paying the money for.

But there is no bad view at the Poly! Even if you have a garden view, your view will be absolutely beautiful. There are a few parking lot views, but your odds of getting one of those is slim.

As far as the GF views, there are a lot that are more than not so great. I could not justify spending that much money, to stare at a parking lot, or a tree, or a maintenance building, just to say that I am staying at the GF.

Keep that $97 and spend it on something wonderful!!!

Have fun!

I've stayed at both, and really liked them both.

Is it $97 extra PER night, or for the whole week? If it's for the whole week, then do it. If it's per night, just stay at the Poly. It's awesome, and you'll love it!

$97 total. We are staying 4 nights

I see you stated in anoither thread that...
We decided that this next trip we would stay on the monorail since we now have a toddler with us. I was having a very hard time warming up to staying at the Poly. I like the light and airy feel of the YC/BC. So many things that i love about it over there... I would not be able to have at the Poly.
Well we found the GF to have more of a light and airy feel when you associate this description to the YC/BC. We still find those terms also can define the PR too, but in more of a laid back earthy way.

Many people associate the GF as snooty which is a common comment from some guest. This may actually stem more from the fact that Victorian architecture is very costly and in its history was normally associated with the very wealthy, rather than uniquely rude guest only found in one resort.

We have stayed at both. Poly wins hands down. Better theming, better atmosphere (particularly if you are talking garden view).

I would definitely do GF for only $97 more! We liked the Poly but we LOVE the GF. Also, our buiggest complaint about the Poly was how dark it seemed!

I choose based on the theme. I've heard many people say that the GF seems snooty to them. To me, the Poly seems way to 1970's Brady Bunch in Hawaii. I have no idea why, that's what immediately pops into my head whenever I visit the resort. Everyone has an opinion, but I'd suggest taking a look through the pictures for both resorts and select whichever one appeals to you the most.

Hi Wondering if you have ever stayed at the GF? Doesn't look like it in your signature, but I heard there are no parking lot views at the GF? I have hear the snooty comment a lot but never bad views. Just wondering if you got a bad view at a stay there:confused3

TO OP:
We are trying the GF because of a good discount, otherwise we would not be able to stay there. I say if you have an opportunity to stay at GF for $100 more, I would try it. Poly in my opinion looks OLD and Dark. I know the rooms are redone (recently the GF is getting a rehab) and I do believe the rooms are a little larger, but they still scream old, musty and dark (to me! I have never stayed there!) I like light and airy and I would always pick a beach theme (beach club) over a hawiian theme or woodsy them.

You will see many different opinions. I have seen posts that say the POLY GV can have a parking lot view and the POLY is more spread out. So you really have to decide for yourself if you like the style of the resort because you just never know what room views you will get. We went to WL last year and while the resort is lovely and a nice option for a lower deluxe price, I hated the room decor. Very dark and small. But some people LOVE that resort. So I agree with Tammi, go look at the pictures and go with your gut.

Oh and I hear the pool at the POLY is smaller and always more crowded. So if pool is important you might want to consider that. Good luck with your decision. You probably will be happy in both places! Hey its' Disney!

I would stay at the poly. The GF is nice, but poly is more me. :)

but I heard there are no parking lot views at the GF? I have hear the snooty comment a lot but never bad views.
There a few rooms in the back of the Sago Cay building, which do overlook the convention center service area. It's not public parking, but they do leave some service vehicles there. I would say maybe about 10-15 rooms have that view and I've heard some reports that it can be noisy and distracting if they have vehicles backing up.

:rotfl2: Tammimcman-that is SO funny. That is the same exact thing I said to my husband about the Poly when we first pulled up when we stayed there. I love Poly's lobby for some reason, but the rooms always reminded me Brady Bunch in Hawaii. I thought they were very dark. I love the GF, never feels snooty to me. I don't know why people always say this about GF. It seems a little paranoid to think people are looking down on you because your in a pair of shorts. I've never seen a person walking around MK in an evening gown. They are all in shorts.
The only reason we stay at BC is because of the proximity to Epcot and MGM. Now that my kids are bigger, they like BC better and love SAB. Someday I will be able to return to the GF.

I agree with your take on the so-called snooty GF guests. We've never experienced them on any of our GF stays either. To me, everyone appears similarly tourist-esque...go figure...

For $97 extra for the entire stay? I'd jump at the GF rate. Those kind of deals don't happen all the time, and this comes from someone who loves staying at the Poly.

We have stayed at both.
Prefer the poly.
As others have said. Look at pics of both and stay where you think
you would like best.

We've done both the Poly and GF and like them both. For $97 difference I would go with the GF.
